THE ACADEMY EDUCATES PARTICIPANTS ABOUT DISTRICT OPERATIONS AND THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TRUSTEE.
ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS IS TO COMPLETE THE ACADEMY, IS TO ATTEND A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

AT THIS MONTHLY MEETING, I WAS ABLE TO WATCH OUR COMSTOCK ELEMENTARY CHOIR PERFORM.
LET ME TELL YOU THOSE KIDS, THEY HAD SOME CHOREOGRAPHY AND THEY HAD SOME CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY SONGS THAT REALLY HAD US GO AND IT WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THEM PERFORM.
I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEAM.
THEY HOSTED THE ALC ESTRAVAGANZA.
THIS IS OUR ACTIVE LEARNING CLASS, AND IT'S BASICALLY KIDS ACROSS OUR DISTRICT.
THEY COME TOGETHER TO PARTICIPATE IN SPECIAL OLYMPICS.
THIS EVENT IS SUPPORTED BY OUR BPA BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICA.
IT'S OUR STUDENTS FROM RD, AND THAT GROUP IS SUPPORTED BY MS. MONROE, AND THEY ACTUALLY HELP FACILITATE THIS EVENT.
IT WAS AN AMAZING THAT DOCTOR JACKSON COULD PROBABLY SPEAK TO BETTER, BUT IT WAS AT FIELDHOUSE.
THEY SET UP THIS COURSE FOR THE STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN AND IT IS AN AMAZING THING TO WITNESS.
THE KIDS HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME.
IT WAS REALLY GREAT TO SEE ONE GROUP OF STUDENTS PARTICIPATING AND HAVING FUN AND ANOTHER GROUP OF KIDS HELPING THEM TO DO THE THINGS THAT THEY WERE DOING. IT WAS REALLY GREAT.
I'D LIKE TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO FIELDHOUSE FOR PROVIDING THAT VENUE FOR FREE.
THAT'S A REALLY GOOD ADD TO THAT EVENT.
THEN ALSO, I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE SENIOR BUS TOURS, WHERE OUR DISTRICT TAKE SOME OF OUR MORE SEASONED COMMUNITY RESIDENTS WHO HAVEN'T MAYBE SEEN A CLASSROOM IN A LONG TIME, AND THEY LOAD THEM UP ON A BUS AND TAKE TO VISIT SOME OF OUR CAMPUSES AND THEY WERE ABLE TO VISIT CTE CENTER, HUNT MIDDLE SCHOOL, CHRISTIE ELEMENTARY, AND A LOT OF THE STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO ENTERTAIN SOME OF OUR RESIDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
HEART TO HEART SPONSORED THAT LUNCHEON, SO WE'D LIKE TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO THEM.
THEN LASTLY, LET'S HEAR IT FOR LONESTAR FOOTBALL TEAM THAT WILL BE PLAYING FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE STATE FINALS, GO LONESTAR.
I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE TEACHING AND LEARNING IN COLLABORATION WITH THE TECHNOLOGY TEAM.
I WANT TO GIVE A BIG SHOUT OUT TO DR. FIORI, DR. CUNNINGHAM, DR. MCDONELL, ASHLEY NELSON, AND KRISTIN HOOD, WHO ARE BOTH PART OF THE DISTRICT INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT.

I THINK STILL SOME OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE THINKING.
CTE COURSES ONLY OFFER AT THE CTE CENTER, BUT NOT AT THE HIGH SCHOOLS, BUT IT'S A GOOD OPPORTUNITY.
I THINK THEY HAPPEN TO KNOW THROUGH THE TOUR.
IT'S NOT ONLY AT THE CTE CENTER, BUT THEY CAN TAKE THE COURSES AT THE RESPECTIVE HIGH SCHOOLS ALSO.
IT'S A GOOD OPPORTUNITY AND IT'S NICE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT.

IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO SHARE ALL OF THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING WITHIN OUR INTERNATIONAL B LAUREATE PROGRAM ON AN ELEMENTARY LEVEL.
WHILE WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED OR BEEN REAUTHORIZED AS OF YET, IT WAS A GREAT MEETING FILLED WITH ALL OF THE DATA THAT WE'VE COLLECTED DURING THE TIME.
EVERYONE THAT KNOWS ME KNOWS THAT I HEART BRIGHT ACADEMY.
IT IS AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS MY CAMPUS, AND SO IT WAS A JOY TO HEAR OF ALL OF THE AMAZING THINGS THAT THEY ARE DOING WITH THAT STUDENT POPULATION.

MY PURPOSE IN JOINING YOU IS IN REGARDS TO RECENT ANNUAL INTRUDER DETECTION AUDIT RESULTS THAT WERE CONDUCTED BY THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY.
AS A REMINDER, IDA VISITS BEGAN IN AUGUST 2022, BASED ON A DIRECTIVE FROM GOVERNOR ABBOTT AND THEY HAVE A SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF ASSESSING THE ABILITY FOR INTRUDERS OR IN THIS CASE, A STATE INSPECTOR TO GAIN ENTRY TO OUR SCHOOLS THROUGH ENTRY POINTS, OUR EXTERIOR ENTRY POINTS.
EACH FISD CAMPUS IS VISITED ANNUALLY FOR AN NNOUNCED VISIT.
AS OF TODAY, TEA HAS COMPLETED AUDITS AT 37 OF 76 CAMPUSES, SO ROUGHLY HALF OF OUR CAMPUSES FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
IT'S LIKELY OUR MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW THE SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE AUDIT FINDINGS.
HOWEVER, STATE LAW PROHIBITS THIS PRACTICE AS IT COULD COMPROMISE CAMPUS SAFETY AND SECURITY.
BUT AS REQUIRED BY THE STATE, SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE INTRUDER DETECTION AUDIT RESULTS WERE DISCUSSED IN THE BOARD EXECUTIVE SESSION EARLIER THIS EVENING.
IDA RESULTS WILL BE DISCUSSED IN THE EXECUTIVE SESSION OF THE DISTRICT SAFETY AND SECURITY COMMITTEE MEETING COMING UP IN FEBRUARY OF 2026, ALSO AS MANDATED UNDER THE LAW.

YOU SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED THAT DURING THE QUARTER, AND YOU HAVE THAT WITH YOU IN YOUR MATERIALS THIS EVENING.
I AM CURRENTLY CONDUCTING AN AUDIT OF TRANSPORTATION.
I'M IN THE PLANNING PHASE OF THAT AUDIT RIGHT NOW, AND I'D SAY I'M ABOUT 10% DONE WITH THE AUDIT.
THIS IS OUR RECOMMENDATION TRACKING SLIDE, WHICH SHOWS THE RECOMMENDATION IMPLEMENTATION PERCENTAGE PER YEAR.
SINCE WE MET AND I DID MY PRESENTATION DURING THE FIRST QUARTER, YOU'LL SEE FISCAL YEAR 2024, AND 2025.
WE'VE MOVED THE NEEDLE ON THOSE A LITTLE BIT, AND THE MAJORITY OF THE 2025 RECOMMENDATIONS THAT ARE LEFT ARE NOT YET DUE, AND THAT CAN BE SAID FOR FISCAL YEAR 2026 AS WELL.
OF THOSE THAT ARE REMAINING OUTSTANDING RECOMMENDATIONS, THIS SLIDE GIVES SOME MORE IN DEPTH INFORMATION ABOUT THAT AND YOU CAN SEE WHICH AUDITS THEY RELATE TO AND HOW MANY ARE OUTSTANDING.
I AM IN CONTINUOUS CONTACT WITH THESE PROCESS OWNERS, AND AS SOON AS THEY FEEL EVERYTHING IS IMPLEMENTED, I'LL BE OUT THERE TO TEST THOSE TO MOVE THESE OFF OUR LIST.
LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY FOR THIS YEAR.
WE'VE HAD 14 INCIDENT REPORTS COME IN.
FOUR OF THOSE REPORTS WERE SUBSTANTIATED.
SIX WERE UNSUBSTANTIATED, AND WE HAVE FOUR REPORTS THAT ARE STILL UNDER REVIEW RIGHT NOW.
THAT CONCLUDES MY NORMAL UPDATE FOR YOU, BUT I DO HAVE ONE MORE REQUIRED ITEM THAT I HAVE TO GO OVER.
GLOBAL INTERNAL AUDIT STANDARD 8.3 REQUIRES THAT I MUST DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT, AND MAINTAIN A QUALITY ASSURANCE, AND IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM THAT COVERS ALL ASPECTS OF INTERNAL AUDIT ACTIVITY.
WE HAVE THAT. IT ALSO REQUIRES THAT AT LEAST ANNUALLY, I MUST COMMUNICATE THE RESULTS OF THE INTERNAL QUALITY ASSESSMENT TO THE BOARD AND SENIOR MANAGEMENT, WHICH I'M DOING.
THE ELEMENTS OF A QUALITY ASSURANCE AND IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.
THERE ARE TWO ELEMENTS HERE, EXTERNAL ASSESSMENTS AND INTERNAL ASSESSMENTS.
AN EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT IS WHEN WE BRING SOMEONE IN FROM THE OUTSIDE TO COME IN AND LOOK AT OUR DEPARTMENT, AND TO TELL US WHETHER WE ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH GLOBAL INTERNAL AUDIT STANDARDS.
INTERNAL ASSESSMENTS ARE THINGS WE DO INTERNALLY, AND THEY CONSIST OF PERIODIC SELF ASSESSMENTS, AND ONGOING MONITORING.
I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THOSE TWO PIECES NEXT.
ONGOING MONITORING, IT'S REALLY THE DAY-TO-DAY OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT OF OUR DEPARTMENT.
IT'S THE ROUTINE POLICIES AND PRACTICE USED TO MANAGE THE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY.
