WE HAVE FIVE STUDENTS HERE FROM THE LITTLE ELM TOWN COUNCIL, WHO I BELIEVE ARE ALL FRISCO ISD STUDENTS, AND MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT SIX OUT OF THE SEVEN STUDENT MEMBERS OF THE LITTLE ELM COUNCIL YOUTH LIAISON OR YOUTH TOWN COUNCIL ARE FRISCO ISD STUDENTS.

THEY'RE HERE TONIGHT TO BE PART OF OUR MEETING, AND I JUST WANTED TO WELCOME THEM.

I HAVE A PERSONAL CONNECTION BECAUSE THE WAY THEY SERVE THE STUDENT COMMUNITY AND ALSO THE TEACHERS, IT'S AMAZING AND I APPLAUD EVERYONE IN FRISCO EDUCATION FOUNDATION, ALL THE VOLUNTEERS, ALL THE SPONSORS FOR MAKING IT A VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT OF OUR COMMUNITY. THANKS. [APPLAUSE]

THEN THE OTHER THING I'D LIKE TO MENTION IS JUST RECENTLY GOT TO VISIT THE TRENT MIDDLE SCHOOL WAX MUSEUM. THAT WAS AMAZING.

I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF YOU'VE EVER SEEN THAT, BUT IT'S WHERE THE KIDS SELECT A TOPIC AND THEN THEY ACT IT OUT AND DO ALL RESEARCH ON THAT.

WHAT WAS REALLY INTERESTING ABOUT THAT IS OUR TRENT PRINCIPAL TOLD ME THAT THOSE KIDS WERE LINING UP AT 7:00 AM THE DAY THE TOPICS WERE RELEASED BECAUSE THEY WERE SO EXCITED TO PICK THEIR TOPICS.

I JUST THOUGHT THAT WAS AMAZING.

THEN I'D ALSO LIKE TO DO A SHOUT OUT FOR EMPTY BOWLES CHARITY EVENT THAT THEY JUST HAD AND THEY DIRECTLY SUPPORT OUR FRISCO FAST PACS, AND FRISCO FAST PAC DIRECTLY HELPS OUR STUDENTS AT FRISCO ISD.

IT'S BEEN A BUSY YEAR WITH DR. WALDROP.

SOME OF OUR HIGHLIGHTS ARE WE WORKED WITH STUDENT SERVICES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ATTENDANCE AND HOW WE CAN IMPROVE OUR ATTENDANCE PERCENTAGES.

WE HAD INPUT ALL OF OUR 25-26 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR.

THERE WAS QA WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD ONE MONTH, AND THAT WAS ALWAYS A FINE ACTIVITY WITH YOU ALL.

WE ALSO I THINK THE HIGHLIGHT FOR OUR KIDDOS WAS WE GOT TO TASTE TEST DIFFERENT TYPES OF PIZZA FOR OUR CHILD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT, AND THAT WAS REALLY FUN AND TASTY.

THEN ANOTHER BIG HIGHLIGHT FOR THEM WAS TRAVELING TO AUSTIN TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR LEGISLATIVE PROCESS NOW THAT THEY'RE IN SESSION AND TO MEET WITH SOME OF OUR REPRESENTATIVES.

>> THANK YOU. THIS SPRING SEMESTER, OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS COMPETED IN THE ANNUAL TEXAS ACADEMIC DECATHLON CONTEST.

AS ALWAYS, AS YOU HEARD THOSE METALS CLANKING AS THEY CAME IN, THEY DID AN AMAZING JOB AND REPRESENTED OUR DISTRICT IN A VERY POSITIVE WAY.

WE'RE EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE ALL OF OUR STUDENTS TONIGHT.

WE HAVE MR. KRISHNA CHETI, HE'S OUR COORDINATOR OF ADVANCED ACADEMICS, AND HE WILL BE RECOGNIZING OUR STUDENTS THIS EVENING.

THEY COMPETE IN A VARIETY OF TOPICS INCLUDING MUSIC, ART, LITERATURE, MATH, ECONOMICS, SOCIAL SCIENCE, SCIENCE, AS WELL AS A SPEECH, AN INTERVIEW AND AN ESSAY.

THIS YEAR, THE COMPETITION, AS IT HAS BEEN THE LAST TWO YEARS WILL SPLIT TWO LOCATIONS, FRISCO AND SAN ANTONIO, WITH EACH MEET HAVING A DIFFERENT SET OF QUALIFICATIONS.

THE TOP 40 SCORES OF THE MEDIUM LARGE MAKE THEIR WAY TO SAN ANTONIO.

THE NEXT GROUP GET RIGHT HERE AT COLLIN.

THIS YEAR, WE HAD 10 OF OUR CAMPUSES COMPETE AND MEDDLED IN INDIVIDUAL MEETS WITH THREE SCHOOLS QUALIFYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ALL STUDENTS ON THEIR TEAM.

WE'RE GOING TO DO RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS AND COACHES BRIEFLY, BUT BEFORE WE DO THAT, WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

THIS YEAR, WE'RE GOING TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE PEEK INTO WHAT THESE STUDENTS ARE ACTUALLY DOING BY HAVING DIA VISWANATHAN FROM LEBANON TRAIL GIVE HER PREPARED SPEECH FROM THE STATE MEET.

SHE DID RECEIVE A PERFECT SCORE OF 1,000 ON THIS, SO NO PRESSURE ENJOY.

[APPLAUSE] KRISTA, BEFORE YOU START, AT DECK IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT.

I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THIS WHEN YOU GAVE YOUR SPEECH AT THE AT DEC AWARDS, IT WAS INCREDIBLE.

YOU GUYS NEED TO SEE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THESE KIDS DO.

I'M IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE I'M STUDYING ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DAY, AND WINNING IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE SOMETIMES.

BUT IN THERE, I MADE FRIENDS.

I HAD AN ADVENTURE.

I STARTED TO LEARN HOW TO STUDY, WHERE TO STUDY.

I THINK THAT YOU GUYS SHOULD ALL CONSIDER JOINING THIS, AND I'M GOING TO PRESENT TO YOU A LITTLE SPEECH TODAY JUST SO YOU GUYS CAN UNDERSTAND HOW PREPARED SPEAKING WORKS IN ACADEMIC DECATHLON.

GO OUTSIDE AND TOUCH GRASS, A PHRASE THAT HAS TAKEN ON A NEW MEANING IN THE DIGITAL AGE.

IT IS THE RALLYING CRY OF FRUSTRATED PARENTS, BEWILDERED BY THEIR KIDS, GLUED TO THEIR SCREENS.

FOR ME, IT WAS A MONTH A MY MOM REPEATED WITH INCREASING EXASPERATION, BUT I NEVER LISTENED.

AT 14, I HAD EVERY EXCUSE.

I WAS BUSY, I WAS TIRED, BUT THE TRUTH WAS I WAS SCARED.

COMING OUT OF COVID WAS COMING OUT OF A NIGHTMARE.

IT WAS DURING THIS TIME THAT I REALIZED BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA HAD STARTED OPENING ITS DOORS TO GIRLS JOINING. AT FIRST, I LAUGHED.

ME, JOINED BOY SCOUTS, BUT I FIGURED IT WAS BETTER THAN YET ANOTHER SATURDAY OF MY DAD NAGGING ME TO GO OUTSIDE. LITTLE DID I KNOW? THIS WOULD LEAD TO ONE OF THE MOST TRANSFORMATIVE LIFE CHANGING THINGS I HAD EVER EXPERIENCED.

IT'S CALLED PHILMONT, 12 DAYS, 100 MILES, 150 POUND PACK.

PHILMONT IS A HIGH ADVENTURE TREK THROUGH THE RUGG AND MOUNTAINS OF NEW MEXICO.

IT IS A BACKPACKING TRIP THAT ATTRACTS ONLY THE MOST DARING AND SOMEHOW I ENDED UP THERE.

NOW LET ME SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

I WAS NOT OUTDOORSY. I WAS NOT ATHLETIC.

I SPENT MOST OF MY TENTH GRADING AVOIDING PE I WAS CONTAGIOUS, AND YET HERE I WAS, SIGNED UP FOR WHAT COULD ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS A VERY BAD IDEA.

PREPARATION TOOK A FULL YEAR.

WE HIKED ENDLESS MILES WITH WEIGHTED PACKS TO BUILD STAMINA AND I WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST IN THE CREW.

LAGGING BEHIND EVERY SINGLE PRACTICE HIKE ENDED IN ME IN TEARS.

I TOLD MYSELF I DIDN'T BELONG, BUT QUITTING WASN'T AN OPTION.

BUT WHEN THE TREK BEGAN, EVERYTHING CHANGED SOON, I STOPPED SEEING MYSELF AS THE WEAKEST LINK.

I STARTED TO NOTICE THINGS.

THE WAY THE SUNLIGHT BURST BETWEEN THE TREES AT DAWN, AND THE UNSPOKEN CAMARADERIE IN SHARING THAT LAST PACK OF TREMISE, WE LAUGHED OVER BURNT MEALS AND SHARED STORIES UNDER THE STARS.

THEN IT HAPPENED.

I CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN.

>> A YEAR AGO, I COULDN'T GET OFF MY COUCH BECAUSE I WAS SO SAD AND STRESSED, AND NOW I'D CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN SO HIGH THAT THE TEARS OF HAPPINESS FROZE ON MY PANTING FACE, BUT I DIDN'T CARE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT CAMPING DOES.

DURING THE TREK, I KEPT A JOURNAL.

THE VERY FIRST THING I WROTE, THIS SUCKS. I WANT TO DIE.

THE VERY LAST THING WAS I THINK I WANT TO LIVE.

FELMONT TAUGHT ME HOW TO BE ALONE, HOW TO BE SCARED, HOW TO HAVE FUN, EVEN WHEN YOU'RE ALONE AND SCARED AND HOW TO DO THINGS, EVEN WHEN NO ONE HAS YOUR BACK.

THAT'S WHY I MADE IT MY MISSION TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE SEE THE LIGHT.

NO, NOT JUST THE LIGHT, THE SUNLIGHT.

KEV TAUGHT ME IT'S NOT ABOUT BEING THE MOST OUTDOORSY AND THE MOST ATHLETIC.

IT'S ABOUT SHOWING UP, EVEN WHEN IT'S HARD.

IT'S ABOUT TRUSTING OTHERS AND LETTING THEM TRUST YOU.

THAT'S WHY I BELIEVE EVERYONE SHOULD GO AND DO SOME ACTIVITY LIKE CAMPING.

WHILE I LITERALLY HIKED AWAY FROM ALL MY PROBLEMS, IT DOESN'T SHOW THAT YOU HAVE TO BE SUPER OUTDOORSY OR SUPER ATHLETIC TO EXPERIENCE THE FEELING OF BLISS ACCOMPANIED WITH THE FEELING OF LETTING GO, TO REALIZE YOU CAN'T CONTROL THE CHANGING SITUATION OF YOUR PROBLEMS, YOU'RE HUNDREDS OF METERS INTO THE WOODS.

IT IS SIMPLY BE WITH OTHER PEOPLE, EVERY ACHING MUSCLE, EVERY SETBACK WAS A TRIUMPH TO SOMETHING BIGGER, THE REWARD OF PERSEVERANCE AND THE DISCOVERY OF HER STRENGTH.

I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I HAD.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO CLIMB A MOUNTAIN, BUT SAY YES, TO SOMETHING THAT SCARES YOU.

BECAUSE WHEN YOU LOSE YOURSELF IN THE WILDERNESS, YOU MIGHT JUST FIND THE BEST VERSION OF YOU.

HERE IS MY CHALLENGE TO YOU.

THAT THE WIND REMIND YOU THAT YOU ARE ALIVE.

EXPERIENCE HUMANITY, AS WE WERE MEANT TO EXPERIENCE IT.

DISCOVER A WORLD WHERE THE WI-FI MAY BE TERRIBLE.

CURRENTLY, OUR BOARD CONSISTS OF 21 DEDICATED MEMBERS, AND AS OF TODAY, WE ARE PROUD TO BE NEARING 24,000 PTA MEMBERS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

WE ARE A 100 PERCENT VOLUNTEER-LED ORGANIZATION UNITED BY THE PRIMARY MISSION OF ADVOCATING FOR ALL STUDENTS.

IN ADDITION TO ADVOCACY, WE ALSO TAKE ON THE IMPORTANT ROLES OF MENTORING, EDUCATING, TRAINING, SUPPORTING, AND CELEBRATING OUR LOCAL PTAS, VOLUNTEERS, AND CAMPUS ADMINISTRATORS, HELPING TO STRENGTHEN THE IMPACT ACROSS THE COMMUNITY.

WE ALSO SERVE AS A VITAL LINK BETWEEN TEXAS PTA AND OUR LOCAL PTAS.

ADDITIONALLY, WE ORGANIZE DISTRICT-WIDE PROGRAMS AND SCHOLARSHIPS, WHICH WE WILL DIVE INTO LATER IN THIS PRESENTATION.

NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE INCREDIBLE SUPPORT OF THE TEXAS PTA, OUR ONGOING COLLABORATION WITH FISD, AND THE SUPPORT OF OUR BROADER COMMUNITY.

THIS YEAR, WE'RE PARTICULARLY EXCITED TO SHARE THAT WE'VE PARTNERED WITH 35 COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, THE HIGHEST NUMBER WE'VE EVER HAD.

EACH YEAR, OUR COUNCIL ADOPTS A SET OF GOALS TO GUIDE OUR EFFORTS AND KEEP US FOCUSED ON OUR MISSION.

HERE ARE THE GOALS WE'VE ESTABLISHED FOR THIS CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR.

THIS EVENING, I'D LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT OUR GOALS AND SHARE HOW WE'VE WORKED TO ACHIEVE THEM OVER THE PAST YEAR.

IT'S ESSENTIAL THAT OUR STAKEHOLDERS UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE, VISION WE HAVE.

SORRY. TO UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE, VISION, AND MISSION THAT GUIDE OUR PTA AND ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION.

EVERY INITIATIVE WE TAKE ON AND EVERY DECISION WE MAKE IS RATED IN A STRONG ALIGNMENT WITH OUR PTA MISSION.

IT'S THE FOUNDATION OF OUR WORK AND THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND EVERYTHING WE DO.

OUR MISSION IS TO MAKE EVERY CHILD'S POTENTIAL A REALITY BY ENGAGING AND EMPOWERING FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES TO ADVOCATE FOR ALL CHILDREN.

THE NEXT TWO GOALS WE'D LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT ARE CENTERED AROUND ADVOCACY, EFFORTS, AND THE VITAL ROLE THAT MEMBERSHIP PLAYS IN THE STRENGTH AND SUCCESS OF OUR ORGANIZATION. IT'S OKAY.

WE'RE JUST GOING TO GO ROGUE. PTA IS THE OLDEST AND LARGEST CHILD ADVOCACY ASSOCIATION IN THE NATION.

HERE IN FRISCO, WE HAVE THOUSANDS OF MEMBERS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING THE EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND SAFETY OF EVERY CHILD WHILE ALSO PROMOTING FAMILY ENGAGEMENT IN OUR SCHOOLS.

ADVOCACY IS TRULY AT THE HEART OF PTA, AND AS A COUNCIL, WE ARE CONSTANTLY STRIVING TO AMPLIFY THE VOICES OF OUR STUDENTS, FAMILIES, AND SCHOOLS AT THE LOCAL AND STATE, AND NATIONAL LEVELS.

THIS YEAR, OUR COUNCIL PROUDLY PARTICIPATED IN THE TEXAS PTAS RALLY DAY ON FEBRUARY 24 IN AUSTIN.

THIS POWERFUL BIENNIAL EVENT BRINGS THOUSANDS OF PTA MEMBERS FROM ACROSS THE STATE TO ADVOCATE FOR EVERY CHILD.

IT'S A DAY WHERE THE TEXAS CAPITOL IS FILLED WITH PASSIONATE VOICES UNITED IN A PURPOSE.

FRISCO ISD WAS WELL-REPRESENTED.

WE BROUGHT TWO BUS FULLS OF PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS TO JOIN THE RALLY ON THE CAPITOL STEPS AND TO MEET DIRECTLY WITH LEGISLATORS WHO REPRESENT OUR DISTRICT.

IN TOTAL, WE HAD 83 ATTENDEES, BUT INCLUDING AN IMPRESSIVE 55 STUDENTS WHO JOINED US THAT DAY.

TOGETHER, WE DISCUSSED BOTH LOCAL AND STATE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES, MAKING SURE THAT THE NEEDS AND VOICES OF OUR FRISCO COMMUNITY WERE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR.

EQUALLY IMPORTANT IS OUR MISSION IS MEMBERSHIP.

OUR MEMBERS TRULY ARE THE BACKBONE OF THE PTA.

EACH MEMBERSHIP STRENGTHENS OUR COLLECTIVE VOICE AND EXPANDS OUR IMPACT.

THE MORE MEMBERS WE HAVE, THE MORE EFFECTIVELY WE CAN ADVOCATE, SUPPORT OUR CAMPUSES, AND EXTEND THE REACH IN OUR DISTRICT.

WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR COUNCIL-WIDE MEMBERSHIP ACROSS ALL 73 PTAS, WE ARE PROUD TO SAY WE'RE APPROACHING 24,000 MEMBERS, AND FRISCO ISD IS THE THIRD LARGEST MEMBERSHIP IN TEXAS, WITH AN ULTIMATE GOAL TO REACH A ONE AND ONE VOICE FOR THE 65,000 STUDENTS ENROLLED HERE IN FRISCO ISD.

WE CERTAINLY COULD NOT DO THAT.

WHO COULD NOT PURSUE THAT GOAL WITHOUT THE INCREDIBLE SUPPORT OF OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF.

THIS YEAR, 49 CAMPUSES ACHIEVES 100 PERCENT STAFF MEMBERSHIP, WHICH IS 10 MORE SCHOOLS THAN WE HAD LAST YEAR.

WE ARE ESPECIALLY PROUD TO RECOGNIZE THREE CAMPUSES, FISHER, NICHOLS, AND COBB, THAT EXCEEDED THEIR TOTAL STUDENT ENROLLMENT IN PTA MEMBERSHIP.

THESE CAMPUSES EARNED THE PRESTIGIOUS PLATINUM VOICE FOR EVERY CHILD AWARD.

WE ALSO ARE DEEPLY GRATEFUL TO THE 828 COMMUNITY MEMBERS, MANY OF YOU IN THIS ROOM, WHO HAVE JOINED LOCAL PTAS THROUGH OUR DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP INITIATIVE.

YOUR SUPPORT MEANS SO MUCH, AND IT TRULY HELPS US DRIVE OUR MISSION.

AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, OUR MISSION IS TO MAKE EVERY CHILD'S POTENTIAL A REALITY, AND WE WORK TOWARDS THAT NOT ONLY THROUGH OUR ADVOCACY FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION FROM PRE-K THROUGH 12, BUT WE ALSO DO IT BY SUPPORTING STUDENTS AS THEY TAKE THEIR NEXT STEPS AFTER GRADUATION.

ONE OF THE MOST MEANINGFUL WAYS WE DO THIS IS THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS.

TODAY, OUR FRISCO IT PTA AWARDED OVER $74,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO THE FRISCO EDUCATION FOUNDATION, RESULTING IN A TOTAL OF 139 SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED THIS YEAR.

OF THESE, 115 SCHOLARSHIPS WERE FUNDED BY OUR LOCAL PTAS, AND THE REMAINING 24 WERE AWARDED BY OUR COUNCIL.

IN ADDITION TO OUR LOCAL EFFORTS, TEXAS PTA ALSO OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS, AND WE ARE PROUD TO SHARE THAT THIS YEAR TWO FISD STUDENTS WERE SELECTED TO RECEIVE TEXAS PTA SCHOLARSHIPS THIS YEAR.

THESE OPPORTUNITIES ARE REFLECTION OF HOW OUR COLLECTIVE PTA COMMUNITY SUPPORT STUDENTS, NOT JUST DURING THEIR TIME IN PUBLIC SCHOOL, BUT FAR BEYOND IT.

ANOTHER CORE PART OF OUR MISSION IS TO EDUCATE, EMPOWER, AND ENGAGE FRISCO ISD FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

THROUGH A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS, TRAININGS, AND EVENTS, WE STRIVE TO PROVIDE MEANINGFUL RESOURCES, RELEVANT INFORMATION, AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR INVOLVEMENT THAT STRENGTHEN THE CONNECTION BETWEEN FAMILIES, SCHOOLS, AND THE BROADER FRISCO COMMUNITY.

BOTH THE NATIONAL PTA AND TEXAS PTA OFFER EXCEPTIONAL PROGRAMS THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO COUNCIL AND LOCAL PTAS, AND WE'RE PROUD TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE AND PROMOTE THESE OPPORTUNITIES.

ONE OF THE MOST NOTABLE IS NATIONAL PTA SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE.

THIS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON OPENING LINES OF COMMUNICATION, FOSTERING ENGAGEMENT, AND CREATING A SHARED VISION BETWEEN FAMILIES AND SCHOOLS.

WE ARE PROUD TO SHARE THAT SEVEN FRISCO ISD CAMPUSES HAVE EARNED THE SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE DESIGNATION FOR THE 23, 2025 SCHOOL YEAR.

EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVELY, MORE THAN HALF OF OUR TOTAL PTAS-SUPPORTED CAMPUSES HAVE RECEIVED THIS HONOR SINCE 2016.

REFLECTIONS IS AN ARTS AND EDUCATION PROGRAM SUPPORTED AT BOTH NATIONAL AND STATE LEVELS THAT PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE THEIR TALENTS ACROSS A VARIETY OF ARTISTIC DISCIPLINES.

WE ARE INCREDIBLY PROUD OF THE TALENTED STUDENTS ACROSS OUR LOCAL PTAS, AS WE SAW HERE TONIGHT, THE AMOUNT OF TALENT THAT OUR DISTRICT HAS.

BUT THIS YEAR, WE SAW AN EXCITING SURGE IN PARTICIPATION WITH NEARLY 400 ENTRIES SUBMITTED FROM ACROSS FRISCO ISD AND SIX CATEGORIES, WHICH IS MORE THAN A 50 PERCENT INCREASE FROM LAST YEAR.

FROM THOSE ENTRIES, 25 ADVANCED FROM COUNSEL TO THIS TEXAS PTA LEVEL, AND 21 OF THOSE ENTRIES RECEIVED STATE-LEVEL HONORS AND AWARDS, AN OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT THAT TRULY HIGHLIGHTS THE TALENT, CREATIVITY, AND SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS RECEIVE HERE IN FRISCO.

ADDITIONALLY, TWO OF THOSE FISD STUDENTS WERE AWARDED THE PRESTIGIOUS OVERALL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE, THE HIGHEST HONOR AT THE STATE LEVEL, AND THEY ARE NOW ADVANCING TO THE NATIONAL LEVEL.

WHEN IT COMES TO LOCAL PROGRAMS, FRISCO THREADS STANDS OUT AS OUR LARGEST AND MOST IMPACTFUL COMMUNITY-WIDE INITIATIVE.

LAUNCHED BY THE COUNCIL IN 2021, FRISCO THREADS WAS CREATED TO ENSURE FRISCO ISD STUDENTS IN NEED HAVE ACCESS TO CLOTHING SO THEY FEEL CONFIDENT, COMFORTABLE, AND DRESSED FOR SUCCESS.

SINCE ITS INCEPTION, FRISCO THREADS HAS PROVIDED CLOTHING TO OVER 2,700 STUDENTS.

THIS SCHOOL YEAR ALONE, WE'VE SERVED 835 STUDENTS WHICH IS A 54 PERCENT INCREASE SINCE OUR FIRST YEAR, AND DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 25,000 ITEMS, MARKING AN 84 PERCENT INCREASE IN ITEMS PROVIDED SINCE THE FIRST YEAR.

THEIR COMPASSION AND COMMITMENT ARE THE HEART OF THIS PROGRAM AND THE REASON IT CONTINUES TO THRIVE.

THESE PROGRAMS A RANGE OF IMPORTANT AND TIMELY TOPICS INCLUDING MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS, EMOTIONAL WELL BEING, AND POST HIGH SCHOOL READINESS.

THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, OUR COUNCIL'S MOTTO HAS BEEN, TOGETHER, WE SHINE.

IT TAKES A TRUE VILLAGE TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY AND BUILDING STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LOCAL CAMPUSES, COMMUNITY PARTNERS, AND FRISCO ISD HAS BEEN KEY TO MAKING THAT HAPPEN.

WHEN IT COMES TO RELATIONSHIPS WITH LOCAL PTAS, WE FOCUS ON THREE KEY AREAS, TRAINING, COMMUNICATING, AND CELEBRATING.

WE BELIEVE KNOWLEDGE IS POWER AND OUR GOAL IS TO EQUIP, ENCOURAGE LOCAL PTAS AS THEY SERVE THEIR CAMPUSES.

OUR PTA LEADERS NOT ONLY HAVE ACCESS TO THE LEAD ACADEMY, A CENTRALIZED ONLINE PLATFORM DEVELOPED BY COUNCIL WITH TRAINING AND RESOURCES, BUT WE'VE ALSO HOSTED A DISTRICT-WIDE TRAINING IN AUGUST WITH OVER 300 LOCAL LEADERS ATTENDING.

WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR SUMMER PRET TRAINING AT THE END OF THE MONTH, WHICH WE WILL HELP NEW AND CURRENT VOLUNTEERS PREPARE FOR THEIR ROLES.

IN ALL, WE HAVE HOSTED ALMOST 40 IN-PERSON AND ONLINE TRAINING SESSIONS THIS YEAR, REACHING OVER 700 PTA LEADERS.

OUR MENTOR PROGRAM HAS ALSO GROWN WITH 30 PTAS CURRENTLY BEING MENTORED.

WE PAIR THESE PTAS WITH EXPERIENCED COUNCIL MEMBERS, WHO PROVIDE ONE ON ONE SUPPORT, HELPING THEM GROW AND SUCCEED IN THEIR LEADERSHIP ROLES.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IS ANOTHER PILLAR OF OUR WORK.

BY THE END OF THIS YEAR, WE WILL HAVE HOSTED 11 MEETINGS WITH LOCAL PRESIDENTS AND REPRESENTATIVES TO SHARE UPDATES FROM THE DISTRICT, TEXAS PTA, AND COUNCIL.

TRANSPARENT AND OPEN COMMUNICATION CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN OUR CONNECTION AND COLLABORATION ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

LASTLY, ONE OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IS CELEBRATE.

CELEBRATE ALL THE INCREDIBLE STUDENTS, LEADERS, AND VOLUNTEERS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

THIS YEAR, WE'VE HAD SO MUCH TO CELEBRATE.

COUNCIL HOSTED A REFLECTIONS ART SHOW WHERE STUDENTS SHOWCASE THEIR CREATIVE ENTRIES TO FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND SUPPORTERS.

FOUNDERS DAY WAS A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE OUR LOCAL PTAS AND CAMPUSES, WHILE HONORING THE LEGACY AND WORK OF OUR PTA FOUNDERS.

AT THIS LUNCHEON, WE RECOGNIZED OVER 20 LOCAL PTA VOLUNTEERS WITH THE LEAD AWARD PRESENTED BY OUR COUNCIL TO INDIVIDUALS WHO DEMONSTRATED EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP AND WERE NOMINATED BY THEIR PEERS.

IT WAS ALSO A PERFECT MOMENT TO HONOR EACH OF OUR PLATINUM VOICE FOR EVERY CHILD CAMPUSES.

THIS YEAR, AND JUST LAST WEEK, WE HAD THE HONOR OF RECOGNIZING 127 TEXAS PTA SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENTS AT OUR ANNUAL CEREMONY.

THESE PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS ARE AMONG THE HIGHEST HONORS A VOLUNTEER CAN RECEIVE FROM TEXAS PTA, AND WE WERE THRILLED TO CELEBRATE THESE INCREDIBLE INDIVIDUALS WHO SELFLESSLY SERVE OUR COMMUNITY.

OUR FINAL CELEBRATORY EVENT OF THE YEAR IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER AT ROUGHRIDER STADIUM, WHERE WE WILL CELEBRATE ALL OF OUR 139 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS WITH A PARADE AROUND THE INFIELD WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE SCHOOLS AS WELL AS SHARE OTHER HIGHLIGHTS ON THE [INAUDIBLE].

IT'S A SPECIAL WAY TO WRAP UP THE YEAR BY CELEBRATING THE HEART OF WHAT WE DO, OUR STUDENTS, VOLUNTEERS, AND COMMUNITY.

IT WAS A RAINY SATURDAY MORNING AT 8:00 AM, AND THE AUDITORIUM AT LEBANON TRAIL WAS PRETTY FULL WITH PEOPLE WHO WERE INTERESTED IN BECOMING CERTIFIED TEACHERS.

THEN WHEN THE JOB FAIR OPENED AT 9:00, THERE WAS A GYM FOR ELEMENTARY AND A GYM FOR ONLY HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

YOU HAD TO WAIT IN LINE AT EACH TABLE TO SPEAK WITH THE REPRESENTATIVES FOR THAT SCHOOL.

THERE WERE THAT MANY PEOPLE.

THE POSTINGS FOR THIS JOB FAIR ONLY HAD NINE OPEN TEACHING POSITIONS BETWEEN ALL 18 MIDDLE SCHOOLS, AND NONE OF THEM WERE AT STALEY.

YES, STALEY PROBABLY HAS LOST SOME TEACHERS RECENTLY WHO NEEDED TO COMMIT TO EMPLOYMENT, BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TEACH AND WHO SPECIFICALLY WANT TO TEACH IN FRISCO.

I KNOW THAT FROM THE ADMINISTRATION STANDPOINT, IT WILL BE A VERY BIG CHALLENGE WITH SOME OF THE STAFF MEMBERS OPTING TO LEAVE OR GETTING TRANSFERRED AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

HOWEVER, KEEPING THE COMMUNITY VIEWS AND ALSO THE HARDSHIPS THEY'LL HAVE TO FACE, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE STALEY BE OPENED FOR ONE MORE YEAR.

I KNOW THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION MAY SUFFER BECAUSE OF NUMBER OF THE TEACHING STAFF AND OTHER THINGS, AND THE STAFF.

HOWEVER, I WILL URGE OUR ADMINISTRATION TO BE MORE CREATIVE AND SEE HOW WE CAN ACCOMMODATE SOME OF THE PARENTS IF THEY HAVE TO OPT TO HAVE THEIR CHILD BE ZONED TO A DIFFERENT SCHOOL IN THIS YEAR.

THEN IF WE HAVE LIMITED NUMBER OF STUDENTS, HOW CAN WE CREATIVELY ADDRESS THE INSTRUCTIONAL NEEDS OF THOSE? FOR THOSE REASONS, I THOUGHT THAT THIS IS TOO SHORT OF A TIME AND THEN WE NEED TO GIVE AN ADDITIONAL YEAR.

WHEN I LOOK AT THIS SITUATION, IT'S A SAD THING THAT WE HAVE TO CLOSE ANY SCHOOL, ESPECIALLY ONE IS OLD IS IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY OF STALEY.

HOWEVER, I WAS ADVISED JUST TO LOOK AT IT FROM ONE PERSPECTIVE OR FOCUS ON ONE PERSPECTIVE ON ONE SIDE OF THE ISSUE.

WHAT IS BEST FOR THE STUDENTS IN THEIR EDUCATION? WHEN I LOOK AT THAT, IT MAKES A HARD DECISION A WHOLE LOT EASIER.

THE FACT IS THAT WE HAVE LOST, DOES ANYBODY HAVE THE CURRENT NUMBER, HOW MANY TEACHERS ARE NOT GOING TO BE THERE? I'M SORRY, DID YOU MEAN TO PUT YOU?

RIGHT NOW, IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S APPROXIMATELY 20 FROM THE INFORMATION THAT WE'VE RECEIVED THIS FAR.

THEN IF THEY GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, HOW DO WE FIGURE THIS WHOLE THING OUT? I THINK THERE WERE PERHAPS MISTAKES MADE UP FRONT WITH THE HOPE THAT THE BOND WOULD PASS, AND WE WOULD JUST DO A NEW SCHOOL.

IT DIDN'T PASS, AND MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE HAD A BACKUP PLAN AND A BETTER BACKUP PLAN AND BETTER COMMUNICATION AFTER THAT.

BUT WE ARE WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW, IT'S REALLY ALL ABOUT THE STUDENTS.

I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF EMOTION WITH THE POTENTIAL CLOSING OF THE SCHOOL, AND MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE THERE.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE ALUMNI WHO WERE THERE, WHO ARE GOING TO SEE A SCHOOL THAT'S GOING TO BE CLOSING.

BUT WHEN WE LOOK AT THE BUDGET DEFICIT THAT WE'RE TRYING TO GET THROUGH, WHEN WE LOOK AT SEVERAL OTHER FACTORS, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT OF WHICH IS WHAT'S GOING TO BE THE BEST FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE THERE? HOW ARE THEY GOING TO GET THE ABSOLUTE BEST EDUCATION? IT MAKES A VERY HARD DECISION LESS COMPLICATED, WHICH IS THE REASON I'M GOING TO VOTE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION. THANK YOU.

I EVEN KNOCKED ON DOORS IN SEVERAL STALEY ZONE NEIGHBORHOODS DURING SPRING BREAK.

I HAD ONE MAN AFTER I INTRODUCED MYSELF SAY TO ME, YOU'RE EITHER REALLY BRAVE OR REALLY CRAZY.

I SAID TO SHOW UP AT HIS DOOR SAYING I WAS A FRISCO ISD TRUSTEE.

I LAUGHED WITH HIM AND I SAID, I MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT OF BOTH AND WE HAD A GOOD TALK.

BUT EVERY SINGLE PERSON I SPOKE TO WHEN I DID THAT, ALL MENTIONED STALEY.

I DIDN'T BRING IT UP AND MOST OF THEM WERE NOT CURRENT PARENTS OF STALEY, BUT THEY HAD SOME CONNECTION TO THIS CAMPUS.

I HAVE LISTENED VERY CLOSELY TO THE ADVOCACY REGARDING THE REASONS WHY THE CAMPUS SHOULD BE RETIRED THIS YEAR, AND I BELIEVE THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ADVOCATING FOR THAT ARE DOING SO AND WHAT THEY BELIEVE IS IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF OUR STUDENTS.

I HAVE A ROLE IN THE DECISIONS I MAKE AS A TRUSTEE AS WELL AS IN MY LIFE.

IF I CAN'T GET TO 80%, YES, THEN I HAVE TO BE A NO.

I CANNOT GET TWO AND 80% YES ON RETIRING THIS CAMPUS THIS YEAR. I HAVE TO BE A NO.

IT IS LATE IN THE YEAR.

BASED ON THIS, I CANNOT GO AGAINST WHAT YOU ALL ARE ASKING US TO DO.

I DID NOT COME TO THIS DECISION EASILY.

I DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY.

THERE WERE TWO MOMS WHO ADDRESSED US A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AT THE COMMUNITY INPUT NIGHT AND THEY TOLD A TALE OF WHAT THEY WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE SEEN FOR US TO PERHAPS STILL END UP RETIRING STAY, BUT WHAT THAT WOULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE.

I THINK THAT WAS THE MOMENT THAT I MADE MY DECISION.

ALTHOUGH IF YOU WOULD HAVE ASKED ME THIS MORNING I WAS STILL WEIGHING PROS AND CONS AS I WAS WRITING THE STATEMENT.

BUT I DO KNOW THAT WE WILL BE FACED WITH OTHER CAMPUS RETIREMENT DECISIONS.

IT WILL NOT BE THIS BOARD, IT WILL BE A FUTURE BOARD.

AS I WEIGHED ALL OF THIS, ONE RECURRING THEME STOOD OUT.

NO MATTER IF THE CLOSURE HAPPENS THIS YEAR OR NEXT, THE EXPERIENCE FOR THESE STUDENTS WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT.

I'VE LOOKED AT THIS ISSUE FROM EVERY ANGLE I COULD.

I KNOW WHAT'S AT STAKE IS DEEPLY PERSONAL AND PROFOUNDLY IMPORTANT, AND I UNDERSTAND THAT, ULTIMATELY.

I'LL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR OUTCOME AND I UNDERSTAND THAT ULTIMATELY, I'LL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE OUTCOME OF THIS DECISION.

I'VE ASKED MYSELF, WHAT WILL THE 2025 '26 SCHOOL YEAR LOOK LIKE FOR OUR STALEY STUDENTS? WHAT PATH OFFERS THEM THE MOST OPPORTUNITY, THE GREATEST STABILITY AND THE STRONGEST FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS.

I'VE ALSO CONSIDERED THE BROADER CONTEXT, THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN TEXAS AND HOW THOSE CHANGES ARE ALREADY BEGINNING TO AFFECT FRISCO ISD.

AS SOMEONE ENTRUSTED WITH MAKING DECISIONS FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF ALL STUDENTS, ALL FAMILIES, AND THE LONG TERM HEALTH OF OUR ENTIRE DISTRICT, I HAVE TO TAKE EVERYTHING INTO ACCOUNT.

IT IS BECAUSE OF THIS RESEARCH AND EFFORT, I WILL BE VOTING TO CLOSE STALEY FOR THE 2025 '26 SCHOOL YEAR.

MANY OF US ON THE BOARD WERE WELL, I THINK NONE OF US WERE A PART OF THE 2018 BOARD THAT WAS VOTED ON.

A LOT OF THE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE THAT MOST BOARDS WOULD HAVE WHEN THEY HAVE TO MAKE DECISIONS LIKE THIS, THEY'VE BEEN ALONG FOR THE RIDE.

THEY HAVE IMPORTANT DETAILS TO CONSIDER.

I WILL SAY THAT I PROBABLY STRUGGLE WITH THIS THE MOST BECAUSE IT HAS TAKEN A TOLL ON ME AND EMOTIONALLY, I KNOW WE HAVE TO CONSIDER BUSINESS IN THIS, BUT IT IS AN EMOTIONAL CHALLENGE FOR ME.

I DO BELIEVE THAT I WAS ABRUPTLY ASSUMES IT HAS HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY.

THAT IS GOING TO MAKE RECRUITING FOR THAT CAMPUS AND FOR THAT PRINCIPAL AND FOR THOSE TEACHERS.

THAT'S GOING TO MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT.

IT'S ALSO GOING TO BE A HEAVIER LEFT AS YOU LOOK AT WHEN YOU'RE WORKING WITH NEW STAFF MEMBERS, EVEN IF THEY'RE EXPERIENCED TEACHERS, YOU'RE STILL HAVING TO HELP THEM GET TO KNOW THE DISTRICT, GET TO KNOW WHATEVER ASSESSMENTS AND PROGRAMS AND THINGS LIKE THAT THAT WE USE.

THOSE ARE THE THINGS TO CONSIDER AS YOU THINK ABOUT ALL OF THAT FOR THAT YEAR AND WHAT THAT MEANS FOR KIDS WHERE WE'RE TRYING TO GET THESE NEW STAFF MEMBERS UP TO SPEED. THAT'S THE SHARD.

BUT SINCE 2020, I HAVE BEEN ABOUT WHAT'S BEST FOR OUR KIDS.

AND THAT'S THE DECISION THAT I'M GOING TO MAKE TODAY.

I REALLY NEED TO KNOW IF WE'RE GOING TO OPEN THE MATERIALS AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO CHALLENGE THEM THE WAY THAT THEY NEED TO BE CHALLENGED.

>> FIRST, I WOULD SAY THAT THERE ARE SO MANY FACTORS THAT WE TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WHEN WE'RE THINKING ABOUT THE ACADEMIC SUCCESS OF OUR STUDENTS.

THE PRIMARY FACTOR FOR OUR STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM ARE HIGH QUALITY PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS.

WE HAVE FAB'S TEACHERS ACROSS FRISCO ISD.

I SHARE DR. LINTON'S CONCERNS ABOUT HAVING TO BRING IN A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BRAND NEW TEACHERS TO FRISCO ISD.

I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT WE'VE GOT THE ABILITY AS THAT DR. LINTON SAID, WE'LL FIGURE IT OUT AND WE'LL SUPPORT OUR TEACHERS.

BUT THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT AN EXPERIENCED TEACHER IN FOR FRISCO ISD COMPARED TO SOMEONE NEW TO THE DISTRICT LEARNING THE CURRICULUM, THE ASSESSMENT PLANS, THE WAY WE INTERACT WITH STUDENTS.

IT'S JUST SPECIAL IN FOR FRISCO ISD.

I'M OF THE BELIEF THAT WHATEVER TASK GIVEN, WE WILL FIGURE IT OUT.

I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THE HIRING STAFF FOR A SINGLE YEAR AND GETTING THEM UP TO SPEED IN THE TIME FRAME THAT WE HAVE.

I THINK THAT WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO TAKE CARE OF OUR STUDENTS IN FRISCO ISD IF THE MOTION IS ADOPTED.

WE'VE GOT PLANS AND I HAVE GREAT FAITH IN THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A TEACHER ACROSS THE DISTRICT TO TAKE CARE OF OUR STUDENTS, AND THAT'S BEEN THE FIRST AND FOREMOST THING IN OUR MIND AS WE GO THROUGH.

THIS FEELS RUSHED. I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION THAT OUR KIDS ARE GOING TO RECEIVE NEXT YEAR IF WE WERE TO DECIDE TO KEEP STALEY OPEN.

BECAUSE WE HAVE HAD OVER 50% OF OUR TEACHERS ENTER THE TRANSFER PORTAL AND RIGHTFULLY SO.

BECAUSE IF I DIDN'T KNOW IF I HAD A JOB, I WOULD ENTER THE PORTAL TOO.

I KNOW THAT FOR A FACT. DR. CUNNINGHAM AND HIS TEAM DO AN EXCELLENT JOB, AND I HAVE ZERO PROBLEM WITH THAT PIECE.

ULTIMATELY, I THINK AS A BOARD, WE HAVE TO TRUST ONE ANOTHER, AND I DO HAVE A LOT OF TRUST IN MS. DAVIS AND MS. GOPAL AND STEPHANIE.
