SO THANKS FOR BEING HERE, EVERYBODY.
WE'LL GET YOU GUYS SQUEEZED IN.
DID I GET THAT NUMBER RIGHT? SEVENTY-THREE PTAS AND PTSS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
ALL OF OUR DISTRICT INITIATIVES ARE FROM THESE GUYS OR FROM THESE LADIES I SHOULD SAY.
THEY WORK REALLY CLOSELY WITH OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT; OUR LEADERSHIP TEAMS. THEY GET A LOT DONE.
THE ONE THING I'M RECOGNIZING TONIGHT IS OUR FRISCO THREADS CLOSET.
HOW MANY OF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH FRISCO THREADS? THIS PLACE IS AWESOME.
THIS YEAR ALONE, I THINK YOU GUYS HAVE HELPED; LET ME GET THIS NUMBER RIGHT, 748 STUDENTS ALREADY THIS YEAR.
LATER, THEY'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO TELL YOU A LOT MORE ABOUT WHAT PTA DOES, BUT I REALLY WANTED TO GET THIS IN BECAUSE THIS IS SO IMPORTANT TO OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.
YOU CAN SEE ALL THESE BAGS OF CLOTHES.
BUT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, WE ACTUALLY HAVE A FEW DAYS WHERE STUDENTS WHO NEED SOME CLOTHING FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR OR JUST IN GENERAL, THEY'LL LINE UP AND HAVE DIFFERENT TIMES WHERE YOU GUYS SERVE THEM.
ACTUALLY, I'VE HEARD OF GREAT WAYS TO GET STUDENT HOURS WITH TOO BECAUSE WHEN THEY RECEIVE THE CLOTHING, THE STUDENTS CAN EARN SERVICE HOURS BY TAKING IT HOME AND WASHING THE CLOTHES AND THEN BRINGING IT BACK.
THEY'RE REALLY HELPING ON SO MANY DIFFERENT LEVELS.
THANK YOU GUYS FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO HELPING OUR STUDENTS AND OUR TEACHERS AND I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR FROM YOU IN A FEW MINUTES. THANKS.

THANK YOU GUYS VERY MUCH. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN.
>> BOARD WILL MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 5C.
RECOGNITION OF STATE POWER LIFTING METALYSTS.
I'M SURE THEY'LL COME IN AS OUR PARENTS ARE EXITING.
I'M GOING TO ASK CHRIS BIRCH, OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, TO COME TO THE PODIUM AND HE IS GOING TO INTRODUCE SOME VERY STRONG COMPETITORS OUT HERE FOR US TONIGHT.
>> THAT WAS GOOD, COREY. THAT WAS GOOD.
THIS IS THE THIRD MONTH IN A ROW THAT I'VE GOT TO COME TO THIS MEETING AND INTRODUCE COACHES AND ATHLETES.
WHAT A PRIVILEGE TO GET TO BE IN A PLACE LIKE FRISCO IST.
WITH THE LEADERSHIP THAT WE HAVE IN THE EXPECTATIONS AND THE GREAT KIDS, GREAT COACHES AND GREAT PARENTS.
IF YOU'RE A PARENT OF ONE OF THESE TWO POWER LIFTERS, WOULD YOU STAND UP? WE'RE SO GRATEFUL FOR YOU GUYS.
Y'ALL WALKED ON OUT HERE, COACH. OUR TWO COACHES.
OUR COACH LANDON BARNES, AND COACH BARNES HAS BEEN IN EDUCATION FOR 23 YEARS.
HE'S BEEN IN FRISCO IST FOR 22 YEARS NOW.
HE'S BEEN A HEAD COACH, HE'S BEEN AN ASSISTANT COACH, HE'S BEEN A MIDDLE SCHOOL COORDINATOR.
HE'S LIKE THE SWISS ARMY KNIFE OF COACHES AND WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR TIME IN FRISCO.
THEN COACH HICKS HAS BEEN 10 YEARS AS A POWER LIFTING COACH, TWO YEARS AS AN ASSISTANT POWER LIFTING COACH, AND HE'S BEEN IN FRISCO IST FOR 15 YEARS.
I WILL HAND IT OVER TO YOU GUYS, PLEASE.
>> EVENING. THANKS FOR EVERYBODY THAT'S IN ATTENDANCE.
I'LL MAKE THIS SHORT, BUT I DO WANT TO BRAG ON THESE TWO YOUNG LADIES.
I'LL START OUT WITH AUBREY BORHOUSEH.
SHE COMPETED IN THE 1908 WEIGHT CLASS THIS YEAR.
WITH THE WOMEN'S POWER LIFTING, THEY SPLIT IT UP INTO TWO DIFFERENT DIVISIONS.
YOU HAD EQUIPPED AND UNEQUIPPED.
WITH AUBREY, SHE COMPETED IN OUR EQUIPPED DIVISION.
SHE CAME IN SECOND AND STATE WITH A TOTAL OF 960 POUNDS BETWEEN HER DEAD LIFT, HER BENCH, AND HER SQUAT.
WE DID ECLIPSE A 400 POUNDS SQUAT DURING THIS PARTICULAR MEET.
THE GREAT THING ABOUT AUBREY, SHE IS A FOUR SPORT ATHLETE.
SHE PLAYS FOR OUR VARSITY VOLLEYBALL TEAM, POWER LIFTING, AND SHE THREW THE SHOT AND DISC THIS YEAR FOR OUR TRACK TEAM.
IS THERE ONE OTHER SPORT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT? WE DID A LITTLE BASKETBALL.
SHE IS FROM HERITAGE HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH IS MY HIGH SCHOOL, BEST IN FRISCO.
MCKAGAN, SORRY. SHE'S FROM WAKELAND.
SHE ALSO COMPETED IN THE 1908.
THE SPECIAL THING ABOUT NATALIE IS THAT SHE COMPETED IN OUR EQUIPPED.
WHAT THAT MEANS IS, JUST AS YOU WOULD THINK, THERE'S NO ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT OTHER THAN JUST KNEE SLEEVES AND WRIST WRAPS.
SHE FINISHED THIRD IN HER WEIGHT CLASS.
HAD ONE OF THE HIGHEST DEAD LIFTS AT THE MEET AT 390 POUNDS.
NATALIE TOO, IS ALSO ANOTHER MULTI-SPORT ATHLETE.
WE'LL LEAVE IT THERE. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT.
WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOUR PARENTS AND OUR FID STAFF.
[00:25:05]
AND WE'RE GOING TO GO BACK NEXT YEAR AND BRING BACK SOME MORE HARDWARE. THANK YOU.>> THANK YOU. NEXT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE COACH BECKY CRAIG, OUR ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, COME AND INTRODUCE A SPECIAL GROUP WITH LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL.
>> YOU JUST MESSED UP MY SHINE.
>> OH. I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO ANNETTE AND SHE'S GOING TO SAY SOMETHING ELSE.
>> I WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY, BOY WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 5D AND NOW YOU, REIGNING STATE CHAMPIONS OVER.
DID YOU TURN ME OFF? THE 2024 LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONS.
I'M SORRY. I KNOW I JUST STOLE YOUR SHINS.
>> ABSOLUTELY NOT. I'M JUST GLAD I GET TO FOLLOW UP WHEN YOU STARTED.
LIKE COACH BIRCH SAID, I'M BECKY CRAIG.
I'M ONE OF THE ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTORS.
IT IS AN HONOR AND PLEASURE FOR ME TO BE HERE TO HONOR THIS AMAZING TEAM TONIGHT.
I'M GOING TO START OFF JUST SAYING THANK YOU, DOCTOR WALDROP AND THANK YOU TO OUR BOARD.
WE APPRECIATE YOU RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING OUR ATHLETES.
THIS IS ALWAYS A REALLY SPECIAL TIME FOR US AND TO SEE WHAT THEY'VE ACCOMPLISHED, AND AFTER ALL THE HARD WORK THAT THEY'VE PUT IN, WE JUST REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE A COUPLE SPECIAL GUESTS.
TO START, IT'S OUR PRINCIPAL OF LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL, MISS STACY WHALING.
OUR ATHLETIC COORDINATOR AND HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AT LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL, MR. MATT SWEENEY.
PROBABLY OUR MOST SPECIAL GUEST OF ALL.
IF YOU ARE A PARENT IN HERE, PLEASE STAND UP.
WE KNOW THE SACRIFICES THAT IT TAKES FOR EACH OF YOU TO HELP YOUR KIDS BE SUCCESSFUL AND BE A PART OF A PROGRAM OF THIS STATUS.
THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO EVERY DAY.
THIS TEAM AND OUR ATHLETIC PROGRAMS WOULD NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT.
NOW ABOUT THIS AMAZING TEAM, BOY, THEY WERE FUN TO WATCH THIS YEAR.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY, BUT THEY WERE 34 AND SEVEN OVERALL.
PROBABLY, MY FAVORITE PART OF THE SEASON IS, EARLY ON IT WAS ALL ABOUT LIBERTY IS GOING TO MAKE IT BACK TO STATE, BUT MANSFIELD TEMPER VIEW, THEY'RE GOING TO WIN.
THEY'RE GOING TO BE THE ONES THAT ARE GOING TO WIN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
THAT DID NOT HAPPEN, OBVIOUSLY.
THE GRIT AND DETERMINATION OF THIS TEAM, AND THEY JUST PLAYED WITH SUCH A FAST PACE, IS REALLY FUN.
NOT ONLY AS AN ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, BUT JUST A SPECTATOR.
THEN I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO COACH ROSS RODDY.
THIS IS HIS SIXTH APPEARANCE AS A HEAD COACH OF THE LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HIS THIRD STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
COACH RODDY, IF YOU'LL PLEASE COME INTRODUCE YOUR TEAM.
>> LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, APPRECIATE YOU GUYS HAVING US OUT.
IT IS THE SIXTH TIME IN THE PAST NINE YEARS THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS.
NO, I'M NOT TRYING TO FLEX, WAKELAND SOCCER IS AT STATE AGAIN, THEY'VE BEEN HERE WAY MORE. SOMETHING HAS BEEN SPECIAL.
IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A LONG TIME, JUST LIKE IT HAS IN FRISCO ISD.
I'M GOING TO TAKE A CHANCE TO INTRODUCE EACH ONE OF THESE LADIES UP ON THE STAGE, AND THEN TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEM.
FIRST WITH OUR COACHES, WE HAVE TAYLOR RICH.
TAYLOR IS KEEN SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, NO TASK IS TOO SMALL.
SHE WAS HUGE AND QUARTERBACK IN OUR WHOLE STATE TOURNAMENT AND REALLY THE PLAYOFFS.
NO BETTER BASKETBALL MIN AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE THAN I'VE EVER BEEN AROUND.
TO GET THAT CONFIRMATION AND SEEING THE COURT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
THEN SECOND UP WAS COACH MYKAELA ALFRED,
[00:30:04]
AND SHE IS AN EDUCATOR BY TRADE AND BY HEART.SHE'LL BE THE NEXT HEAD COACH IN FRISCO ISD, AT WHICH THAT POINT I'LL RETIRE.
WE CAN HOLD OUR APPLAUSE TO THE END.
MANAGER CARLY FISH, MANAGER EMILY MASSEY, MANAGER IRA OSMAN, MANAGER CAMILLE SALES. IS KAY HERE? NUMBER 32, EXCUSE ME, NATALIA SOTO.
YOU CAN STEP FORWARD. I CALL YOUR NAME.
NUMBER 24, ALEAH WILLIAMS. ACADEMIC ALL DISTRICT AND TEAMMATE OF THE YEAR, NUMBER 12, KATHERINE MURPHY.
A DISTRICT AND JUST AN ABSOLUTE MONSTER IN THE PLAYOFFS, PLAY-OFF.
OUR LEADING MINUTE PERSON, NOT ONLY LAST YEAR, BUT SHE WAS SECOND MINUTES THE YEAR BEFORE, HAS NOT MISSED A GAME.
SHE IS COMPLETELY DURABLE, NEVER COMPLAINS, JUST ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, NUMBER 21, LILIAN JOHNSON.
SHE WAS ALSO ALL DISTRICTS, EXCUSE ME.
THIS NEXT GIRL WAS TABC ALL STATE, AND SHE WAS ALSO THSCA, ONE OF THE ELITE MEMBERS OF THE TEAM.
THEY PICKED NINE PLAYERS IN THE WHOLE STATE, AND SHE WAS ONE OF THE PLAYERS, AND THAT'S NUMBER 0, AZA FARRIER.
I DO NOT HAVE THE PAPER SIZE TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THIS STUFF, SO JUST IMAGINE EVERY AWARD, ALL OF THEM.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR AND EVERY ORGANIZATION IN ALL STATE, AND THAT IS NUMBER 3, JERSEY ABI.
THEN OUR SENIOR INFLUENCE OR LEADER.
SHE WAS ALL STATE IN TWO DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS.
SHE WAS MVP OF THE STATE TOURNAMENT, LAST YEAR JC WAS THE MVP OF THE STATE TOURNAMENT THIS YEAR.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR, REALLY QUALITY PLAYER QUALITY INDIVIDUAL, AND THAT'S NUMBER 5, KARA ROSBE.
I'LL BE QUICK WITH THIS NEXT PART, BUT I DO WANT TO TALK A COUPLE OF THINGS.
FIRST OF ALL, ON THE TALENT LEVEL STUFF.
WE WENT 34 AND SEVEN, BUT WE STARTED SEVEN AND SIX.
WHEN COACH CRAIG SAID THAT WE WERE GOING TO STATE, I WAS GOING TO A COLD SHOWER AND ICE COLD LEMONADE AND TRYING TO GET AWAY FROM EVERYBODY.
I THOUGHT FOR SURE THAT WE HAD ALL OF THIS TALENT AND THE SHIP WAS SINKING.
BUT THESE KIDS NOT ONLY TURNED IT AROUND IN TERMS OF OUR PLAY ON THE COURT, BUT ALSO IN GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER.
BECAUSE WE WON IT LAST YEAR, BUT WE LOST SEVEN OF OUR BEST LEADERS, TWO COACHES, TWO MANAGERS, AND THREE PEOPLE ON THE COURT.
IT TAKES SOME TIME TO DEVELOP THE CHEMISTRY AND THE LEADERSHIP THAT NEEDS TO DO SPECIAL THINGS.
BY THE END OF THE YEAR, WHEN WE ENDED 34 AND SEVEN, MAKE NO MISTAKE, THE TEAM THAT ENDED UP THE NUMBER 1 TEAM IN THE NATION OR SO TO SPEAK, THE MYTHICAL CHAMPIONSHIP, LOST TO TWO TEXAS SCHOOLS, ONE OF WHICH WE BEAT.
WE PLAYED THE TELL-OFF WHEN WE PLAYED THEM.
YOU'RE LOOKING AT, ARGUABLY, THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATION.
I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THESE PEOPLE.
ARE THESE YOUNG WOMEN IN FRONT OF US.
NOW, THE COOL THING ABOUT IT IS, 14 YEARS AGO WHEN WE REALLY SUNK OUR TEETH INTO THIS THING, THERE'S ONLY FOUR SCHOOLS.
WE KNEW WHO WAS GOING EVERYWHERE, AND SO IT WAS REALLY EASY TO GET THIS THING GOING AND GET EVERYBODY GOING IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
I KNOW THAT YOU GUYS ON THE BOARD AND IN THE CITY OF FRISCO, IT'S BEEN THE SAME THING.
BONDS PASSED IT AT 90 SOMETHING PERCENT, AND IT WAS AMAZING, THE SOLIDARITY AND THE UNITY THAT WE HAD.
THEN WHEN YOU HAVE THE PEOPLE MOVING IN AND YOU HAVE A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT THINGS, IT BECOMES HARDER TO STAY TRUE, EXCUSE ME, TO THOSE CORE PRINCIPLES.
BUT THAT'S WHAT'S AMAZING ABOUT THIS GROUP.
IS THAT 14 YEARS LATER, NOT EVEN HAVING A SNIFF OF WHAT WAS GOING ON, THAT'S THE STUFF THAT YOU SAW BY THE END OF THE SEASON.
YOU SAW THAT ABILITY TO PRAISE OTHERS.
YOU SAW THAT WILLINGNESS TO WORK ON SELF, BUT NOT BECAUSE OF YOUR OWN SELF AGENDA, BUT BECAUSE OF THE BENEFIT OF THE WHOLE.
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE EXAMPLE FOR NOT ONLY THE PEOPLE IN OUR SCHOOL, BUT REALLY THE PEOPLE IN ALL OF FRISCO AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY.
WHEN WE WERE ABLE TO SEE THAT, YOU'RE ABLE TO SEE THAT CHARACTER, THAT TYPE OF TOUGHNESS, THAT TENACITY, AND THAT TYPE OF TOGETHERNESS.
WITH SUCH A YOUNG GROUP OF BRIGHT MINDS, IT WAS ABSOLUTELY SPECIAL.
THEY DIDN'T JUST DO IT BARELY, THEY DID IT IN OVERWHELMING FASHION.
I THINK THE CLOSEST GAME BESIDES THE STATE FINAL, TO WHICH WE WERE PLAYING, THE MYTHICAL NUMBER 8 TEAM IN THE NATION, WAS 17 POINTS.
[00:35:01]
WHEN WE PLAYED THEM BY THE END OF IT, THEY DIDN'T WANT ANY PART OF IT.IT WAS BECAUSE OF, YES, THERE ARE SOME EXTREMELY GIFTED PEOPLE UP HERE IN TERMS OF WHAT THEY CAN DO ON THE BASKETBALL FLOOR, BUT WHAT THEY CAN DO TOGETHER AND WHAT THEY PROVED TOGETHER WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING.
TO BE ABLE TO TALK ABOUT IT EVEN IN SOME SMALL PART TODAY IN FRONT OF YOU GUYS, I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.
THANK YOU, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND ABSOLUTELY, THE PEOPLE IN FRONT OF US.
THANK YOU, LADIES. APPRECIATE IT.
HEY, BEFORE WE LEAVE ATHLETICS, AND I KNOW ROSS MENTIONED IT JUST A SECOND AGO, I JUST WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT-OUT, STARTING ON THURSDAY, WE HAVE WAKELAND, DID IT AGAIN.
THEY HAVE GIRLS AND BOYS SOCCER DOWN AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT AND ALL PLAYING ON THURSDAY AND IF THEY WIN, THEY'LL PLAY AGAIN ON SATURDAY.
A BIG SHOUT OUT TO WAKELAND [APPLAUSE] AND HOPEFULLY THEY'LL PLAY IT.
>> WELL, THANK YOU. I KNOW THEY'RE GOING TO BRING HOME SOME AMAZING NEWS WHEN THEY RETURN FROM THAT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
BOARD, WE'RE GOING TO MOVE RIGHT ALONG TO 5E, RECOGNITION OF TIA. DR. CUNNINGHAM.
>> SAD, I'VE GOT TO FOLLOW THAT.
BUT TONIGHT WHAT WE WANTED TO DO WAS JUST TAKE A MINUTE TO RECOGNIZE THAT FRISCO ISD IS ONE OF A SMALL NUMBER OF DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE WHO HAS DESIGNED AND DELIVERED A FULLY APPROVED TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT SYSTEM.
WE'VE HAD A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF FOLKS ACROSS THE DISTRICT WORK FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS ON THIS, AND WE'RE PROUD OF THEM.
WE'RE THANKFUL FOR OUR PRINCIPALS.
WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF OUR TEACHERS.
WITH THAT, I'M GOING TO MOVE OVER TO DR. GARY NYE, OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT. DR. NYE.
>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD AND ISD.
THIS EVENING WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO CELEBRATE A MILESTONE, WHICH IS THE DEVELOPMENT AND INITIAL IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TEACHER AND CITY OF ALLOTMENT WITHIN FRISCO ISD.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TIA SYSTEM HAS REQUIRED COUNTLESS HOURS OF RESEARCH AND PLANNING OF NUMEROUS UNSEEN HEROES ACROSS MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS, CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION TEAMS, AND STAKEHOLDER GROUPS TO WHICH WE WOULD LIKE TO SAY, THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, ENERGY, AND COMMITMENT.
TO SHARE MORE WITH YOU ABOUT TIA, WHAT IT IS, WHERE WE ARE, AND OUR NEXT STEPS, I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE NATASHA MCDONALD, OUR ADMINISTRATOR OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS. MISS MCDONALD HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS JOB HELPING ORGANIZE AND LEAD THIS TIA PROCESS SO, I'LL PASS IT OFF TO MISS MCDONALD.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH, DR. NYE.
THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT OR TIA.
THAT'S WHAT I'LL SAY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS CELEBRATION, WAS ESTABLISHED WITH THE GOAL OF PROVIDING TEACHERS WITH AN ACCESSIBLE PATHWAY TO GET HIGHER INCOME WHILE REMAINING IN THE CLASSROOM.
EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT HAD TO SUBMIT A LOCAL APPLICATION TO BE REVIEWED, AS WELL AS GO THROUGH DATA VALIDATION AND PASS IN ORDER TO CONFER ANY DESIGNATIONS.
NOW, THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF DESIGNATIONS THAT CAN BE EARNED.
YOU CAN GET RECOGNIZED, EXEMPLARY, OR MASTER AND THEY'RE ALL BASED ON STUDENT GROWTH AND CLASSROOM OBSERVATIONS.
NOW WE'VE BEEN AT THIS THING SINCE 2020, AND WE HAVE BEEN EXPLORING THE REQUIREMENTS, AS WELL AS WORKING WITH STAKEHOLDER GROUPS AND A TASK FORCE TO GIVE FEEDBACK THROUGHOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR SYSTEM.
FISD IS ONE OF THE SMALL FEW AMOUNT OF DISTRICTS IN THE DFW METROPLEX THAT HAS ACTUALLY HAVE A FULLY APPROVED TIA SYSTEM.
TIA DOES HELP US BIG TIME WITH HR, WITH RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION BECAUSE IT IS A PATHWAY TO ENCOURAGE OUR TOP PERFORMING TEACHERS TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSROOM, AND THAT'S WHERE WE WANT THEM TO BE.
ANOTHER HUGE BENEFIT TO THIS IS THAT THE TIA PAYMENT ACTUALLY IS CREDITED IN THE TEACHER RETIREMENT SYSTEM AND IT'S GOING TO BE USED IN THE RETIREMENT BENEFIT CALCULATION.
IT SETS US APART. IT'S A CELEBRATION.
[00:40:07]
RIGHT NOW, WE ARE CELEBRATING BECAUSE AS THEY'VE SAID OUR PHASE 1 APPLICATION WAS APPROVED AND WE PASSED DATA VALIDATION.PHASE 1 INCLUDED 25% OF TEACHERS WHO TAUGHT ONE OF THE 21 ELIGIBLE COURSES WHERE STAAR RESULTS WERE USED FOR THE STUDENT GROWTH MEASURE.
FISD WAS ABLE TO DESIGNATE OVER 200 TEACHERS THAT MET PHASE 1 CRITERIA, AND THEY WILL RECEIVE ALLOTMENTS THAT RANGE BETWEEN $2,700 AND $14,000 PER YEAR FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS AS LONG AS THEY CONTINUE TO MEET ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA.
PHASE 1 OF OUR TIA SYSTEM WILL GENERATE OVER 1 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS.
TALK ABOUT TURNING A FROWN UPSIDE DOWN.
[APPLAUSE] GUYS, THIS WAS A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT, AS THEY HAVE SAID FROM MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS.
BUT A SPECIAL THANK YOU GOES OUT TO ALL OF THE PRINCIPALS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
NOW, OUR PHASE 2 APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED.
WE MORE THAN TRIPLED THE AMOUNT OF COURSES THAT WAS INCLUDED FOR DESIGNATION CONSIDERATION.
WE DID THAT BECAUSE WE WANTED TO BE CONSCIOUS OF DR. WALDRIP'S VISION OF INCLUDING A PATHWAY FOR AS MANY TEACHERS AS POSSIBLE.
THAT WAS VERY IMPORTANT TO US.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUBMIT TIA APPLICATION MODIFICATIONS WITH EACH PHASE TO ADD ADDITIONAL COURSES.
WE ARE ALSO WORKING TOWARD CREATING AN ADDITIONAL NATIONAL BOARD PATHWAY FOR TEACHER DESIGNATION.
LET'S GIVE IT UP AND CONGRATULATE OUR 2023, 2024 DESIGNATED STAFF.
JOB WELL DONE. EVERYBODY WITH YOUR HANDS ON THIS.
I HAD TO TURN AROUND AND ASK DR. WALDRIP, FOR ONE PERSON. YES. THANK YOU.
>> CAN I JUST ASK A QUICK QUESTION? DR. NYE, HOW IS THE ALLOTMENT PAID TO THE TEACHERS? IS IT A ONE TIME STIPEND? IS IT SPREAD OUT? PAY CHECKS? HOW DOES THAT WORK?
>> IN JUNE, TEACHERS WILL RECEIVE A STIPEND.
THEY'RE DESIGNATED STIPEND IN JUNE.
BOARD, WE'LL NOW MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM NUMBER 6 INVOCATION.
[6. Invocation]
MR. CLASSE.>> PLEASE BOW YOUR HEADS. HEAVENLY FATHER.
THANK YOU FOR THE BLESSINGS GIVEN TO EACH OF US.
AS WE MOVE TOWARD THE END OF ANOTHER SCHOOL YEAR, WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR THE KNOWLEDGE ATTAINED AND THE RELATIONSHIPS THAT HAVE FORMED IN OUR SCHOOLS AND IN OUR COMMUNITY.
MAY THESE GIFTS BE LIFELONG REMINDERS OF THE GOOD THAT CAN COME FROM WORKING TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE SOMETHING GREATER THAN WE COULD DO ALONE.
WE PRAY FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND ARE THANKFUL FOR THOSE WHO VOLUNTEER TO PROTECT AND SERVE.
WE'RE GRATEFUL TO LIVE IN A PLACE WHERE THE EXPRESSION OF IDEAS IS ALLOWED AND WELCOMED BY REPRESENTATIVES WHO ARE PEACEFULLY ELECTED.
PLEASE GIVE US YOUR GUIDANCE AND PATIENCE AS WE MAKE DECISIONS THAT AFFECT THE LIVES OF CHILDREN, EDUCATORS, AND THEIR FAMILIES.
WE ASK THESE THINGS IN YOUR NAME. AMEN.
BOARD, WE'LL MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM NUMBER 7, BOARD REPORT.
[7. Board Report]
AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO CALL UPON ANY TRUSTEES PRESENT THAT WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE THEIR BOARD REPORTS.ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING? WELL, I DO HAVE TWO THINGS.
>> I'LL MAKE A QUICK COMMENT IF THAT'S OKAY.
>> THIS MAY BE TOUCHING ON SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE GOING TO TOUCH ON TO.
TEACHER OF THE YEAR. HOW ABOUT IF I TAKE THE ELEMENTARY ONE?
>> YOU CAN DO BOTH. THANK YOU.
>> WE GOT THE HONOR OF ATTENDING, SEVERAL OF THE TRUSTEES WERE THERE ACTUALLY, THE AWARDS FOR TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND WE HAD REPRESENTATIVES FROM ALL OF OUR 70+ CAMPUSES PRINCIPALS.
IT WAS REALLY COOL SEEING THE ENGAGEMENT, THE APPRECIATION.
[00:45:06]
WITH THAT, JUST CONGRATULATIONS TO TERRY YELL AND SCOTT FRANTZ, THE 2023, '24 TEACHERS OF THE YEAR.I APPRECIATE ALL THE CANDIDATES DO FOR THIS DISTRICT.
>> IN ADDITION TO WHAT MARCUS SHARED, I'D LIKE TO CONGRATULATE ALL OF OUR CAMPUS TEACHER OF THE YEAR NOMINEES.
EACH CAMPUS BROUGHT FORTH A RECOMMENDED TEACHER OF THE YEAR, AND I THINK WE SHOULD ALSO EXTEND KUDOS TO THOSE INDIVIDUALS AS WELL.
A FEW WEEKS AGO, I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE THE FIRST PITCH AT THE LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL VERSUS HERITAGE BASEBALL GAME.
IT WAS THE SEASON OPENER, AND I WANT TO GIVE A QUICK SHOUT OUT TO THE LIBERTY AND HERITAGE TEAMS. LIBERTY WENT ON TO WIN THAT GAME 7-5, AND I WAS JUST GRATEFUL TO BE IN ATTENDANCE, AND REALLY, REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO THROW THE FIRST PITCH, BUT WAS VERY UNPREPARED BECAUSE COREY DID NOT SHARE WITH ME THAT I COULDN'T WEAR BOOTS.
I AM VERY, VERY EXCITED TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REPRESENT OUR BOARD IN DOING SO, AND I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR. THANK YOU.
IT DID NOT MAKE IT TO THE PLATE.
JUST A SECOND. DR. WALDRIP THREW ME OFF A LITTLE BIT.
BOY, WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO AGENDA ITEM 8,
[8. Review status of required trustee training]
REVIEW STATUS OF REQUIRED TRUSTEE TRAINING.ALL SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES MUST PARTICIPATE IN REQUIRED TRAINING DURING THEIR TERMS OF SERVICE.
COMPLETION OF REQUIRED CONTINUING EDUCATION IS A BASIC OBLIGATION AND EXPECTATION OF ANY SITTING BOARD MEMBER UNDER STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION RULES.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH TEXAS ADMINISTRATION CODE SECTION 61.1(J), AT THE LAST REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE BEFORE AN ELECTION OF TRUSTEES, I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR ANNOUNCING THE NAME OF EACH BOARD MEMBER WHO HAS COMPLETED THE REQUIRED CONTINUING EDUCATION, WHO HAS EXCEEDED THE REQUIRED HOURS, AND WHO IS DEFICIENT IN MEETING THE REQUIRED TRAINING HOURS.
A TRUSTEE ELECTION IS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE ON MAY 4TH, 2024, MAKING TODAY'S MEETING THE LAST REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD BEFORE SUCH ELECTION.
FOR EACH TRUSTEE, I WILL ANNOUNCE WHETHER THE BOARD MEMBER HAS MET, EXCEEDED, OR IS DEFICIENT IN COMPLETION OF HIS OR HER HOURS.
I HAD THEM IN ORDER, BUT I'M GOING TO JUST GO BASED ON WHAT I HAVE IN FRONT OF ME.
MARK HILL EXCEEDED NUMBER OF HOURS.
RENE ARCHAMBAULT MET NUMBER OF HOURS.
JOHN CLASSE EXCEEDED NUMBER OF HOURS.
DYNETTE DAVIS EXCEEDED NUMBER OF HOURS.
GOPAL PONANGI EXCEEDED THE NUMBER OF HOURS.
MARVIN LOWE MET THE REQUIRED HOURS, AND STEPHANIE ELAD MET THE REQUIRED HOURS.
BOARD, CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
I DO REALIZE THAT IT IS AN ADDITIONAL TASK THAT WE DO TAKE ON AS ELECTED OFFICIALS.
I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE THE ONLY SET OF ELECTED OFFICIALS WITHIN OUR STATE GOVERNMENT THAT ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE TRAINING.
I DO APPRECIATE EVERYONE FOR ENSURING THAT YOU HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE NUMBER OF HOURS THAT ARE NECESSARY IN ORDER FOR US TO DO OUR JOBS HERE WITHIN FRISCO ISD, AND TO REPRESENT OTHER TRUSTEES THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF TEXAS.
THANK YOU. BOARD, WE'LL MOVE ON TO AGENDA ITEM 9,
[9. FISD Council PTA Presentation to The Board]
FRISCO ISD, COUNCIL OF PTAS,[00:50:02]
PRESENTATION TO THE BOARD.DO YOU WANT TO GO? I WANT TO SHARE.
NO, I DON'T WANT TO PUT IT THERE.
GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, DR. WALDRIP, INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TEAM AND DISTINGUISHED GUESTS.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALLOWING US TO BE HERE AND TO PRESENT TO YOU ALL THE THINGS THAT OUR COUNCIL HAS DONE, WHICH WILL INCLUDE ALL OF OUR LOCAL PTAS.
MY NAME IS CYNDI ARAKAS, AND I AM HONORED TO SERVE AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL OF PTAS, AND THIS IS DOMINICA SEQUEIRA WHO IS OUR FIRST VICE PRESIDENT.
BUT BEFORE I BEGIN, I JUST WANTED TO GIVE A LITTLE BIT OF AN OVERVIEW OF WHO WE ARE.
WE ARE A BOARD OF 25 BOARD MEMBERS.
WE COVER PRETTY MUCH, I THINK, MOST OF THE FEEDER PATTERNS, A MAJORITY OF THEM, SO WE'RE SPREAD OUT THROUGH THE DISTRICT.
WE ALSO ARE A VERY DIVERSE GROUP.
WE ACTUALLY JUST GOT HONORED BY TEXAS PTA LAST WEEK WITH THE DEI AWARD.
WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
EVERYONE THAT SERVES ON OUR BOARD NOT ONLY SERVES ON COUNCIL, BUT WE HAVE A LOT OF PTA PRESIDENTS ON OUR BOARD, WORKING MOMS. BUT JUST A REALLY DEDICATED GROUP.
WE SUPPORT 73 LOCAL PTAS AND THEIR CAMPUSES.
WHEN I SPEAK TO LOCAL PTAS, THAT DOES INCLUDE THE CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION.
THEY ARE ALL PART OF THAT LOCAL PTA.
WE COLLABORATE WITH DISTRICT LEADERSHIP, WHICH WE'LL DIVE INTO, AS WELL AS I WANT TO NOTE THAT OUR DELEGATES, WHEN I SPEAK TO A DELEGATE MEETING, THOSE INCLUDE LOCAL PTA PRESIDENTS, THEIR CAMPUS PRINCIPALS, AND THEN EVERYONE DESIGNATES A COUNCIL DELEGATE.
EACH CAMPUS HAS THREE VOTES AT ALL OF OUR DELEGATE MEETINGS.
WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT FRISCO ISD, WE ARE GOVERNED BY TEXAS PTA.
WE ESSENTIALLY REPORT TO THEM, AND THEN ULTIMATELY, TEXAS PTA AND NATIONAL PTA.
BUT THE COOL THING ABOUT THIS IS WHEN YOU JOIN A LOCAL PTA, YOU BECOME A PART OF THE COUNCIL PTA, BUT YOU ALSO BECOME A PART OF TEXAS PTA AND NATIONAL PTA.
YOU BECOME PART OF THE PTA FAMILY AND THE SUPPORT SYSTEM.
WHEN WE SPEAK TO THE '23 AND '24 COUNCIL GOALS FOR US, ONE OF THE BIGGEST ONES THAT WE ALWAYS WANT TO SHARE IS THIS FIRST ONE IS COMMUNICATING THE PURPOSE, VISION, AND MISSION OF FRISCO ISD COUNCIL OF PTAS, AND THAT MISSION IS TO MAKE EVERY CHILD'S POTENTIAL REALITY BY ENGAGING AND EMPOWERING FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES TO ADVOCATE FOR ALL CHILDREN.
WHEN YOU SEE THROUGH THIS PRESENTATION OF ALL THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE, THE MISSION IS TOP OF MIND.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE INCLUSIVE AND MAKING SURE THAT ALL CHILDREN ARE TAKEN CARE OF, AND WE WANT TO BRIDGE THAT GAP AND SEE WHERE THE NEEDS ARE AND HELP FIND A SOLUTION FOR THAT.
WE SHARE THIS AT EVERY MEETING AND EVERY PRESENTATION THAT WE HAVE.
LIKE I SAID, WHATEVER WE DO, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE IT COMES BACK TO OUR MISSION.
I'M NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT THROUGH ALL THESE GOALS THAT I HAVE UP HERE, BUT THERE'S FOUR BIG ONES THAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT, AND THEN THE FIRST ONE IS GOING TO BE ADVOCACY.
PTA IS THE LARGEST ADVOCACY ASSOCIATION IN AMERICA.
WHEN YOU SPEAK TO ADVOCACY, THE NUMBER ONE THING FOR US IS WE TALK A LOT ABOUT MEMBERSHIP, AND WE TALK ABOUT NUMBERS, AND WE TALK ABOUT JOINING A LOCAL PTA.
WHAT I WANT TO CORRELATE FOR YOU GUYS IS WHEN WE TALK MEMBERSHIP, IT'S GIVING A CHILD A VOICE.
RIGHT NOW, WE'RE AT A LITTLE OVER 24,000 PTA MEMBERS.
THAT MEANS WE'VE GIVEN A VOICE TO A LITTLE OVER 24,000 STUDENTS IN FRISCO ISD WHEN WE'RE ADVOCATING DOWN IN AUSTIN.
THE COOL THING ABOUT THAT TOO, IS IT GIVES US A REALLY LOUD VOICE.
BUT WE ARE THE SECOND LARGEST PTA IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, WHICH IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF.
IN ORDER TO EVEN GET TO THAT, IT TAKES A LOT OF SUPPORT FROM THE DISTRICT, WHICH WE ABSOLUTELY HAVE AND WE'LL TALK MORE ABOUT, BUT ALSO THE CAMPUSES.
WE'VE HAD 39 SCHOOLS THAT HAVE 100% STAFF ENROLLMENT, WHICH IS CALLED THE GOLDEN APPLE AWARD SO THAT'S HUGE.
[00:55:01]
THAT'S SHOWING THOSE KIDS THAT YOU'RE WORKING AS A TEAM, SO IT'S PRETTY AMAZING.TO HAVE 39 SCHOOLS IS UNBELIEVABLE.
THEN THE PLATINUM VOICE FOR EVERY CHILD, ROBERTSON AND COBB, HAVE MEMBERS THAT COVER THEIR STUDENT ENROLLMENT, SO THEY TRULY HAVE REACHED THAT THEY HAVE A VOICE FOR EVERY CHILD.
WE STRIVE FOR THAT. THAT IS THE NUMBER ONE THING THAT WE WANT.
WITH 67,000 STUDENTS IN FRISCO, WE WOULD LOVE THAT TO BE THE MEMBERSHIP NUMBER.
I KNOW THAT'S A HIGH GOAL, BUT THE GOAL IS ALWAYS TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A VOICE FOR EVERY STUDENT IN FRISCO ISD.
ALL THE WAYS THAT WE DO THAT IS WE HAVE 926 MEMBERS THAT WE ADD, THEY WERE A MEMBERSHIP DISTRICT INITIATIVE IS WHAT WE CALL THE MDI.
A LOT OF YOU SITTING UP THERE HAVE JOINED IT, SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT BUT THAT IS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT FOR US.
IF WE'RE NOT HAVING PARENTS AND FAMILIES AND GRANDPARENTS, THOSE ARE BUSINESSES, THOSE ARE YOU GUYS SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU GUYS HELPING US RAISE OUR VOICE WHEN WE GO DOWN TO AUSTIN.
BACK TO SCHOLARSHIPS. WE CURRENTLY AWARD, AND I DON'T THINK THAT THIS IS WELL KNOWN, OVER $75,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH FEF.
A TOTAL OF THOSE IS 141 SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH PTA AND 117 OF THOSE ARE JUST THROUGH THE LOCALS, WHICH I THINK IS PRETTY AMAZING BECAUSE PART OF THAT MISSION IS MAKING SURE EVERY CHILD'S POTENTIAL IS REALITY AND WE WANT TO DO THAT IN SUPPORTING THEIR NEXT STEP.
WE WANT TO DO THAT WHETHER IT'S GOING TO A TRADE SCHOOL OR A UNIVERSITY BUT THOSE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED THROUGH THOSE LOCAL PTAS.
THEN WE, AS A COUNCIL, WE AWARD 24 SCHOLARSHIPS, WHICH WE HAVE TWO TYPES OF VOLUNTEERISM, AND HORIZON, WHICH IS STUDENTS THROUGH SPECIAL EDUCATION.
BUT WE ARE REALLY PROUD THAT WE GIVE BACK THE $75,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO THE STUDENTS.
THE NEXT THING FOR US IS A BIG THING FOR COUNCIL, IS EDUCATING, EMPOWERING, AND ENGAGING OUR FAMILIES BY PROVIDING PROGRAMS. THE NATIONAL PTA, SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE, I'M GOING TO READ THIS THROUGH THAT IS A PROGRAM THROUGH NATIONAL PTA THAT IS ACHIEVED THROUGH A SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP OF THE PTA AND THE LOCAL ADMINISTRATION, AND THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE.
WE CURRENTLY HAVE SEVEN CAMPUSES THAT HAVE BEEN DESIGNATED AS A SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE FOR THE 2022-'24 SCHOOL YEARS, WHICH IS AMAZING.
WE HAVE FIVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, ONE MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND ONE HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN SINCE 2016, WE'VE HAD 35 SCHOOLS HAVE THAT HONOR.
THAT'S SHOWING THE CORROBORATION THAT OUR PTAS ARE HAVING ON THEIR CAMPUSES.
REFLECTIONS IS ANOTHER BIG ONE FOR US, IT'S A NATIONAL PTA PROGRAM AND IT'S ALSO SUPPORTED BY TEXAS PTA, AS WELL AS COUNSEL.
THIS YEAR, WE'VE HAD 220 TOTAL ENTRIES FROM FRISCO ISD STUDENTS IN SIX DIFFERENT CATEGORIES.
TWENTY-TWO OF THOSE STUDENTS ADVANCED TO TEXAS PTA AND THEN 18 OF THOSE 22 RECEIVED HONORS FROM TEXAS PTA BUT THE COOLEST THING IS WE HAVE THREE STUDENTS, TWO HIGH SCHOOLERS AND ONE MIDDLE SCHOOLER ADVANCING TO NATIONAL PTA.
TEXAS PTA ONLY SENDS 30 AND WE HAVE THREE OF THEM SO I THINK THAT SPEAKS A LOT TO FRISCO ISD AND THE TALENT THAT WE HAVE, AND WE SAW IT TONIGHT.
THE TALENT THAT WE HAVE IN FRISCO ISD IS UNREAL, BUT IT'S NO DIFFERENT HERE.
THEY'RE CREATIVE AND THEY KNOW HOW TO SHOW IT SO WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE 10% OF THE FINALISTS GOING TO NATIONAL PTA.
WE'LL KNOW MORE IN MAY ON HOW THOSE STUDENTS DO.
THEN STRAIGHT TALK IS A PROGRAM THAT PTA HOSTED THAT WE DID A WATCH PARTY FOR BUT IT WAS A PANELIST AND IT WAS JUST ON NAVIGATING THE SMARTPHONE ERA AND THEY HAD BARK ON THERE.
THERE WAS A COUPLE OF PANELISTS ON THERE BUT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WE OFFERED TO OUR PARENTS TO EDUCATE THEM MORE ON SMARTPHONES.
THEN IN TERMS OF PROGRAMS, COUNSEL, WE DO A LOT OF DISTRICT COLLABORATION, WHICH WE LOVE.
WE HELPED WITH THE COLLEGE SERIES AND MARKETING PART SO WE APPRECIATE THAT SUPPORT.
ALSO WITH MEGHAN DE WOLF IN THE LEGISLATIVE, WE DID AN IN-DEPTH LEGISLATIVE UPDATE WITH ALL THE STUFF GOING DOWN IN AUSTIN.
WE'VE ALSO HOSTED SEVERAL PARENT PROGRAMS WITH YOU GUYS HIGH IN PLAIN SIGHT.
BE SMARTER THAN A TEENAGER, THE MENTAL HEALTH, LEGISLATIVE UPDATE, AND THEN COMING SOON IN APRIL, THERE'LL BE ONE ON AN EATING DISORDER.
THAT'S JUST WHAT WE'RE DOING AT THE COUNCIL LEVEL WITH YOU GUYS.
THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE HUNDREDS OF PROGRAMS THAT ARE HAPPENING ACROSS THE LOCALS AND WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND BRINGING TO THEIR SCHOOLS.
THIS YEAR AS A COUNCIL, OUR MOTTO HAS BEEN, TOGETHER, WE SHINE.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO SERVE OUR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LOCAL CAMPUSES, COMMUNITY, AND FRISCO ID IS A KEY PIECE IN DOING SO.
IN REGARDS TO RELATIONSHIPS, ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS FOR US IN SUPPORTING OUR LEADERS IS TRAINING, COMMUNICATING, AND CELEBRATING.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER AND WE, AS A COUNCIL, WANT TO TRAIN AND ENCOURAGE OUR LOCAL PTAS.
IN 2021, WE CREATED A LEAD ACADEMY,
[01:00:01]
WHICH IS A CENTRALIZED ONLINE PLATFORM THAT INTEGRATES TRAINING AND RESOURCES TO MAKE LEARNING MORE ACCESSIBLE, MORE IMPACTFUL, AND RELEVANT TO OUR PTA LEADERS.THE GOAL OF THE LEAD ACADEMY IS TO EMPOWER OUR LOCAL LEADERS TO POSITIVELY IMPACT THEIR CAMPUS COMMUNITIES WHILE GROWING IN THEIR LEADERSHIP SKILLS.
THIS YEAR ALONE, WE'VE LED 38 IN-PERSON AND ONLINE TRAININGS, REACHING OVER 700 LEADERS THAT ATTENDED IN THE PROCESS, WE FEEL REALLY GOOD THAT WE ARE TRAINING OUR VOLUNTEERS TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
WE ALSO HAVE GROWN OUR LEADERSHIP THROUGH A MENTOR PROGRAM.
SPECIFICALLY, THEY HAVE A SEASONED COLLEGE COUNCIL LEADER THAT IS SUPPORTING THEM.
WE HAVE 23 SCHOOLS THAT HAVE ASKED FOR A MENTOR AND THAT IS SOMETHING, IF THEY WANT IT, WE'D LOVE TO DO IT.
IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT WE FORCE UPON THEM, BUT WE ALSO, A BIG THING FOR US IS CELEBRATIONS.
GOING BACK TO TOGETHER, WE SHINE VOLUNTEERING CAN BE TOUGH, SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CELEBRATE THEM IN EVERY WAY THAT WE CAN.
WE DO THIS THROUGH LEAD AWARDS, WHICH IS OUR TRAINING PROGRAM, WE'VE DONE SEVERAL NIGHTS, WE DID A REFLECTIONS ART SHOW, WHICH I MENTIONED THE 220 ENTRIES THEY GOT TO SHOW THEIR FAMILIES.
THEN WE HAVE A ROUGH WRITING-UP COMING UP ON FRIDAY THAT WE'LL BE CELEBRATING A LOT MORE. WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
THEN NEXT WEEK WE GET TO HONOR ALL THE HONORARY LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP AWARD WINNERS FROM OUR LOCALS.
THAT'S THE HIGHEST HONOR YOU CAN GET THROUGH A PTA.
WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO BE CELEBRATING THOSE VOLUNTEERS NEXT WEEK.
THEN ASHLEY TOUCH BASE ON THIS, BUT SOMETHING THAT WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF IS FRISCO THREADS.
WHEN IT COMES TO THE COMMUNITY-WIDE INITIATIVE, OUR THREAD'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE CLOTHING TO FRISCO ISD STUDENTS IN NEED TO INSTILL COMFORT AND CONFIDENCE AND TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE DRESSED FOR SUCCESS.
WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF HOW FAR WE'VE COME IN THIS.
WE'RE IN OUR THIRD YEAR IN OPERATION.
THIS YEAR WE'VE SERVED CLOSE TO 750 STUDENTS, AND THAT'S 38% MORE THAN OUR FIRST YEAR.
WE THINK THAT'S A REALLY INCREDIBLE NUMBER.
ALSO, WE'VE GIVEN THEM OVER 21,000 ITEMS, WHICH IS 55% MORE THAN WE DID OUR FIRST YEAR.
THEN WE ALSO COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT THE AMAZING VOLUNTEERS WHO SERVED OVER 1,100 HOURS.
THE THREADS COMMITTEE HAS DEDICATED THEMSELVES TWICE A WEEK TO VOLUNTEERING AT A CLOSED CLOSET WITH THE INVALUABLE SUPPORT OF MANY LOCAL VOLUNTEERS FROM LOCAL CAMPUSES, BUSINESSES, AND FAMILIES.
THEN THESE PICTURES, A COUPLE OF THEM YOU SAW EARLIER, THOSE ARE PICTURES FROM SCHOOLS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND SOME LOCAL BUSINESSES THAT HAVE EITHER DONE A DONATION, THEY'VE DONE A SCHOOL-WIDE, CLOTHING DRIVE WITH ONE OF THE LOCALS SAY, BRING A SOCK TO A SOCK HOP SO THEY GOT REALLY CREATIVE.
THOSE ARE THINGS THAT WE NEED FOR THE THREAD'S POST CLOSET SO WE'RE REALLY APPRECIATIVE OF THE SUPPORT IN THE COMMUNITY.
THEN IN SPEAKING TO THE '23, '24 SCHOOL YEAR, WE BELIEVE THAT ONE OF OUR GREATEST SUCCESSES HAS BEEN THE CONTINUED SUPPORT AND COLLABORATION WITH YOU GUYS IN THE DISTRICT.
THIS YEAR, WE'VE ADDED DISTRICT SPOTLIGHTS TO EACH OF OUR DELEGATE MEETINGS, WHERE DELEGATES WERE ABLE TO HEAR FROM DISTRICT LEADERSHIP ON KEY TOPICS.
IT'S AN INCREDIBLE VALUE FOR OUR LOCAL LEADERS TO HEAR DIRECTLY FROM DISTRICT LEADERSHIP, AS WELL AS PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR DISTRICT LEADERSHIP TO HEAR FROM OUR LOCAL LEADERS, PARENTS, AND STAKEHOLDERS.
IT TRULY HELPS BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN LOCAL CAMPUSES AND DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION.
WE ALSO HAVE COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES SERVING ON THE FRISCO EDUCATION FOUNDATION, THE LEGISLATIVE LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE, AND THE STUDENT HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE AS A CO-CHAIR AND WE ALSO HAVE A DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE THAT SERVES AS AN EX OFFICIO ON OUR COUNCIL BOARD, WHICH WE REALLY APPRECIATE.
ADDITIONALLY, WE WORK CLOSELY WITH SEVERAL DISTRICT DEPARTMENTS TO COLLABORATE ON PROGRAMS AND INFORMATION THAT BEST MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE FRISCO ISD COMMUNITY AND LASTLY, HAVING DISTRICT LEADERSHIP AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES ATTENDING OUR EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WE REALLY TRULY APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT.
WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU GUYS, SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
THEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES IS, COMING TOGETHER IS THE BEGINNING AND KEEPING TOGETHER IS PROGRESS, BUT WORKING TOGETHER IS SUCCESS.
WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE DISTRICT COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS AND CERTAINLY NOT WITHOUT OUR AMAZING LOCAL PTAS WHO WORK DAY IN, DAY OUT FOR THEIR CAMPUSES.
WE'RE SO APPRECIATIVE OF ALL THEIR HARD WORK AND COUNTLESS HOURS THEY SPEND BRINGING JOY TO THEIR CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY.
THEN BEFORE I CLOSE, I WOULD BE REMISS IF I DID NOT SPEAK ABOUT THIS AMAZING TEAM.
ALL THE THINGS THAT I MENTIONED TODAY COULD NOT HAPPEN WITHOUT THE DEDICATION AND HARD WORK OF THIS AMAZING GROUP.
THEY SERVE SELFLESSLY AND IT'S AN HONOR AND A PLEASURE TO WORK ALONGSIDE THEM.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNWAVERING SUPPORT.
THEN LAST BUT LEAST, THANK YOU FOR INVITING US TO PRESENT TO YOU TODAY.
IT IS TRULY A PLEASURE SERVING OUR DISTRICT AND PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO REACH OUT IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.
[01:05:03]
YOU CAN COME TO EVERY BOARD MEETING AND GIVE YOU A PRESENTATION LIKE THAT.
>> SERIOUSLY, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.
THE INFORMATION THAT YOU'VE PROVIDED TODAY AND THE ITEMS THAT YOU'VE NAMED THAT YOU'VE DONE ACROSS THE DISTRICT, THAT REALLY DOESN'T EVEN PUT A DENT INTO WHAT YOU REALLY AND TRULY HAVE DONE FOR OUR DISTRICT.
AS MANY KNOW, THIS IS A PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM, BUT OUR CHILDREN HAVE ACCESS TO SO MUCH MORE, AND IT IS BECAUSE OF OUR COUNCIL OF PTAS, AND SO THANK YOU.
I NEED TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION BACK TO AGENDA ITEM 8.
I MENTIONED ONE OF OUR TRUSTEES THAT MET AND SHE ACTUALLY EXCEEDED.
I DIDN'T ADD THE TOP NUMBERS, SO THAT IS MY MISTAKE.
RENE ARCHAMBAULT DID EXCEED THE NUMBER OF HOURS THAT WERE REQUIRED OF HER.
MY APOLOGIES, RENE IS OUT OF TOWN ON OFFICIAL WORK BUSINESS, AND I WOULD HATE FOR HER TO HEAR THE RECORDING AS HARD AS SHE HAS WORKED TO ENSURE THAT HER TRAINING IS COMPLETE.
RENE, HEY, WE MISS YOU, WE LOVE YOU. THANK YOU.
[LAUGHTER] BOARD, WE'RE GOING TO JUST SWITCH ITEM 10 AND 11.
I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THAT MR. PONANGI OFFER THE CORRESPONDENCE TO THE BOARD.
WE'RE GOING TO GO TO AGENDA ITEM 11 WHICH IS
[11. Communication to and from the Board including Public Comments]
COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD INCLUDING PUBLIC COMMENTS.THEN AFTER THAT, WE WILL GO BACK INTO CLOSED BEFORE WE TAKE UP THE DISCUSSION REGARDING FINDINGS OF INTRUDER DETECTION AUDITS WITHIN OUR CAMPUSES. MR. PONANGI.
>> ALL RIGHT, MADAM PRESIDENT.
WE NOW MOVE TO THE PUBLIC COMMENT SESSION OF OUR AGENDA.
THE BOARD WELCOMES COMMENTS REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS FROM INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE COMPLETED PUBLIC COMMENT FORMS THIS EVENING WHICH ARE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE BEGINNING OF THE OPEN MEETING AND ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE TO OTHER SPEAKERS.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE INFORMATION SHARED IN PUBLIC COMMENT IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF THE INFORMATION SHARED BY THE PRESENTER AND SOLELY PROVIDES THE OPINION OF THE INDIVIDUAL SPEAKER, NOT THE DISTRICT.
DURING THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD, COMMENTS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ONLY, NOT TO OTHER ATTENDEES, AND ONLY MADE ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED UPON TO SPEAK.
TO ENSURE THAT ALL SPEAKERS ARE TREATED EQUALLY AND HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME, THE PODIUM MICROPHONE WILL BE TURNED OFF AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE TIME FOR EVERY SPEAKER.
PLEASE KEEP ALL PUBLIC COMMENTS RELATED TO DISTRICT BUSINESS AND GOVERNANCE.
IF YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC CONCERN RELATED TO AN EMPLOYEE OF THE DISTRICT OR A SPECIFIC STUDENT ISSUE, YOU SHOULD UTILIZE THE DISTRICT'S GOVERNANCE PROCEDURES PROVIDED IN THE BOARD POLICIES, DGBA LOCAL, FNG LOCAL, NGF LOCAL.
EACH GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE ALLOWS FOR AN INDIVIDUAL TO REDRESS GRIEVANCES WITH THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
ADDITIONALLY, IF THERE ARE FIVE OR MORE INDIVIDUALS THAT WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK ON THE SAME TOPIC, YOU MAY CHOOSE TO APPEAR ON AN INDIVIDUAL TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE BOARD MAY NOT DISCUSS OR ACT UPON ANY ISSUES THAT ARE NOT PROPERLY POSTED ON THE AGENDA.
IF YOU WISH TO PROVIDE PUBLIC COMMENT ON AN ITEM NOT ON THE MEETING'S AGENDA, PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR NEXT COMMUNITY INPUT MEETING ON APRIL 23RD.
THE FIRST PORTION OF OUR PUBLIC COMPENSATION IS STAKEHOLDER TESTIMONY, WHEN THE BOARD WILL HEAR FROM THE PARENTS OF THE FRISCO ISD STUDENTS, FRISCO ISD EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS, AND OTHER FRISCO ISD RESIDENTS.
ALL INDIVIDUALS ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE A FULL NAME AND HOME ADDRESS WHEN SIGNING UP TO SPEAK.
IF WE WERE UNABLE TO VERIFY AN INDIVIDUAL'S STATUS AS A STAKEHOLDER BASED ON THE INFORMATION PROVIDED, THE INDIVIDUAL WILL BE CALLED UPON TO SPEAK DURING THE PUBLIC TESTIMONY.
EACH STAKEHOLDER WILL HAVE THREE MINUTES TO ADDRESS THE BOARD REGARDING ITEMS ON THE AGENDA FOR THIS MEETING.
STAKEHOLDERS WILL BE CALLED IN THE ORDER IN WHICH EACH INDIVIDUAL SIGNED UP TO SPEAK.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE HAVE TWO SPEAKERS THIS EVENING.
[01:10:02]
OUR SECOND SPEAKER WILL BE PAUL JASON. CRAIG LEVERETTE.>> GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR. WALDRIP, DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS.
I'M THE VICE PRESIDENT OF P12 PARTNERSHIPS WITH COLLIN COLLEGE AND DISTRICTWIDE SCHEDULING WITH THE COLLEGE.
PREVIOUS ROLE PRIOR TO THIS ONE WAS PROVOST OF THE FRISCO CAMPUS, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, A PROUD FATHER OF A FRISCO ISD GRADUATE, HERITAGE HIGH SCHOOL, THE VERY FIRST CLASS THAT WAS THERE ALL FOUR YEARS, AND A FORMER DUAL CREDIT STUDENT.
DR. MARK AND ALSO DISTRICT PRESIDENT, WAS HOPING TO BE HERE TO PROVIDE SOME ADDITIONAL COMMENTS AS WELL.
BUT HE GOT CALLED TO A MATTER AT HOME SO HE CANNOT ATTEND.
IN REGARDS TO THE WEIGHTED GPA FOR DUAL CREDIT COURSES, I WOULD LIKE TO ECHO FIRST SOME OF THE INITIAL PREVIOUS MESSAGING ABOUT CREATING CHOICES FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.
CHOICES THAT ARE ON AN EVEN PLAYING FIELD, SO THEY CAN CHOOSE WHAT IS BEST FOR THEIR INDIVIDUAL SITUATION.
ONE OF THE PRIMARY REASONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF DUAL CREDIT OVER 70 YEARS AGO, MANY PEOPLE DO NOT REALIZE DUAL CREDIT HAS BEEN AROUND THAT LONG.
BUT ONE OF THE PRIMARY REASONS IT WAS DEVELOPED WAS TO AID IN THE TRANSITION PROCESS FOR STUDENTS AS THEY HEAD OFF TO THEIR SELECTED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY.
TO ILLUSTRATE HOW COLIN FACILITATES THIS TRANSITION PHASE, I'D LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE AN IMAGE FOR YOU.
IT'S A TUESDAY MORNING, LATE AUGUST, AND FRISCO ISD STUDENTS ARE FILLING THE HALLS AND CLASSROOMS OF THE J BUILDING ON OUR FRISCO CAMPUS.
THEY'RE TAKING A GOVERNMENT CLASS FROM DR. NICK MORGAN, OR A HISTORY CLASS FROM DR. JASON MORGAN, NO RELATION, OR PULLING INTO EMERSON HIGH SCHOOL FIRST THING IN THE MORNING TO TAKE AN ENGLISH CLASS FROM PROF. KAT BALCH.
THEY ARE ABOUT TO TACKLE ETHICAL RHETORICAL INQUIRY, EVALUATE THE ROLE OF INTEREST GROUPS IN TEXAS, OR QUITE POSSIBLY, ANALYZE ECONOMIC CHANGE DURING THE RECONSTRUCTION PERIOD.
THESE WERE SOME OF MY FAVORITE TIMES WHEN I WAS ON THE CAMPUS, WE'RE SEEING THE FACES OF UNCERTAINTY, MAYBE A LITTLE FEAR, EXCITEMENT IN THESE STUDENTS.
OUR DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM HELPS ACCOMPLISH THIS TRANSITION BY ALLOWING STUDENTS TO EXPERIENCE THESE EMOTIONS WHILE GAINING KNOWLEDGE FROM THESE TOP NOTCH SCHOLARS THAT I PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED.
WITH SOME OF THIS BEING SAID, I WOULD CONSIDER DUAL CREDIT TO BE A DIFFERENT VERSION OF ADVANCED PLACEMENT, AND THAT DUAL CREDIT ALLOWS FRISCO ISD STUDENTS TO GUARANTEE ENTRY INTO A DEGREE PLAN AT THEIR INSTITUTION OF CHOICE IN AN ADVANCED PLACE WITHIN THAT DEGREE PLAN.
THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERATION OF THIS IMPORTANT POLICY TONIGHT.
THANK YOU. IS IT POSSIBLE TO TURN THE HEAT UP A LITTLE BIT? I KNOW THE AC WORKS, BUT THAT'S WHY I WEAR THIS PRIMARILY IN BUILDINGS.
WHEN I WAS LOOKING OVER THIS AGENDA, I SAW COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD, INCLUDING PUBLIC COMMENTS, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHERE I'M COMING FROM.
I WAS SPEAKING FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF HAVING BEEN HERE TO THE BOARD MEETINGS FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW.
BEEN TO MOST OF THE BOARD MEETINGS BUT SPEAKING, HAVING A GOOD TIME, LEARNING A WHOLE LOT, FINDING OUT HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS.
ONE OF THE THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION, IF POSSIBLE, IS TO IMPROVE THE COMMUNICATION TO AND FROM THE BOARD.
MOST OF US KNOW WHAT PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE IS, THE WORD PARLIAMENTARY SIMPLY MEANS SPEAKING.
THE WHOLE PURPOSE WAS TO FACILITATE OUR COMMUNICATION.
IN MOST MEETINGS THAT I'VE BEEN TO IN MY LIFETIME, THERE'S BEEN OLD BUSINESS AND NEW BUSINESS.
RARELY HAVE I COME HERE AND HAD ANYTHING ADDRESSED.
I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO TALK TO YOU GUYS.
ADDRESS ONLY THAT WHICH HAPPENED, FOR EXAMPLE, THREE COUPLE OF EXAMPLES.
A HIGH SCHOOL, FIVE DEBATE STUDENTS CAME HERE WONDERING WHY THERE'S
[01:15:03]
NO MONEY FOR THEM TO GO TO THE REGIONALS AND THE STATE, OTHER DEPARTMENTS GET IT. THEY DIDN'T.DID THEY EVER GET FEEDBACK ON IT? I NEVER HEARD FROM IT.
I TRIED TO FIND IT ON THE WEBSITE, BUT EVEN WHEN I CALLED ASKED THEM HOW IT WORKED, THEY COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT.
THEN THERE WAS THE ANNEXATION AND DETACHMENT PETITION, VERY IMPASSIONED FAMILIES THAT WERE HERE FOR THAT.
DID THEY EVER MEET? I KNOW THE BOARD SAID, HEY, WE'RE GOING TO GET TOGETHER WITH THE OTHER BOARD.
DID THAT EVER HAPPEN? WAS IT EVER RESOLVED OR IS IT JUST OUT THERE? THEN THERE WAS POWERPOINT STILL TOO SMALL, AND WONDERING WHY IT CAN'T BE INCREASED.
I CAN READ THAT ONE, BUT A LOT OF IT IS TOO SMALL AND MAYBE WE CAN GET COPIES OF IT.
I WAS TOLD THEY COULD BE MADE AVAILABLE, BUT NOBODY CAN EVER FIND THEM FOR ME.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A LARGER PRINT JUST LIKE YOU'VE GOT LARGER PRINT ON THE NAME TAG SO WE CAN FIGURE OUT WHO PEOPLE ARE? COULD WE HAVE THE POWERPOINTS BIG ENOUGH SO THAT WE CAN READ IT? IT'S JUST A REQUEST.
THIS IS JUST SOME FEEDBACK I WOULD THINK WOULD BE HELPFUL WHEN THE BOARD SAYS AND DOES SOMETHING THE NEXT BOARD MEETING, HEY, THIS IS WHAT WE DID, HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED.
COULD THAT BE PART OF THE AGENDA OLD BUSINESS? I'D JUST LIKE TO SEE IF THAT COULDN'T BE BROUGHT INTO YOUR PROCEDURE.
TWO, HELP COMMUNICATION TO AND FROM THE BOARD.
>> THANK YOU. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE ARE GOING TO MOVE INTO CLOSED SESSION TO DISCUSS ITEM 10 WHICH IS DISCUSSION
[10. Discussion regarding findings of Intruder Detection Audits at Frisco ISD Campuses]
REGARDING FINDINGS OF INTRUDER DETECTION AUDITS AT FRISCO ISD.>> TESTING. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR PATIENCE.
IT IS 9:03, AND WE ARE RETURNING TO OPEN SESSION WITH AGENDA ITEM 12.
WE'RE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THESE ACTION ITEMS. WE'LL BEGIN WITH ACTION ITEM A,
[12.A. Consider and act on approval of minutes from the March 4th Regular Meeting, March 7th Emergency Meeting and the March 18th Regular Meeting. ]
CONSIDERING ACT ON APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MARCH 4TH REGULAR MEETING, MARCH 7TH EMERGENCY MEETING, MARCH 18TH REGULAR MEETING, AND THE APRIL 2ND BUDGET WORKSHOP MEETING.>> MOVE TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS PRESENTED.
>> MOTION BY MR. PLACE, SECOND.
BY MR. PONANGI. IS THERE ANY QUESTION? IF THAT I LOOK FOR A VOTE. ALL IN FAVOR.
MOTION PASSES 6-0, OR WE'RE GOING TO JUST GO BACK TO ITEM 10 WHICH WOULD BE DISCUSSION REGARDING FINDERS OF INTRUDER DETECTION AUDITS AT FRISCO ISD CAMPUSES, MR. WORSLER.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. AT THIS TIME, I'LL CALL JOHN BODIE UP TO THE PODIUM TO GIVE US OUR UPDATE.
MADAM PRESIDENT DAVIS, DISTINGUISHED BOARD MEMBERS, DOCTOR WALDROP AND ISD MEMBERS.
THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN YOU THIS EVENING.
AS HAS BEEN DONE PREVIOUSLY, MY PURPOSE IN JOINING YOU TONIGHT IS IN REGARDS TO THE RESULTS OF THE INTRUDER DETECTION AUDITS THAT ARE CONDUCTED BY THE TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER SINCE OUR LAST VISIT TO THE BOARD ON MARCH 4TH, I BELIEVE IT WAS.
BY NOW YOU'RE FULLY FAMILIAR WITH THE INTRUDER DETECTION AUDITS THAT WERE BEGUN IN AUGUST OF 2022 FOLLOWING A DIRECTIVE FROM GOVERNOR ABBOTT.
THEY HAVE A SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF ASSESSING THE ABILITY FOR INTRUDERS OR, IN THIS CASE, A STATE INSPECTOR, TO GAIN ENTRY TO OUR BUILDINGS VIA AN EXTERIOR ENTRY POINT.
AS YOU HAVE HEARD ME SAY PREVIOUSLY, WITHIN THE FIS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, OUR ROLES INCLUDE IMPLEMENTATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF MEASURES TAKEN IN THE PREPAREDNESS, PREVENTION, MITIGATION RESPONSE, OR RECOVERY PHASES OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.
THE IDA'S, THE INTRUDER DETECTION AUDITS, ARE PERFORMED BY THE STATE OF TEXAS AND THOSE OCCUR WITHIN THE PREVENTION AND THE MITIGATION PHASES.
THESE ARE THE SAME EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PHASES WHERE ISC ALSO CONDUCTS STATUTORY SAFETY AND SECURITY AUDITS USING A THIRD PARTY INDEPENDENT AUDITOR.
AS YOU KNOW, THAT'S AN ANNUAL PROCESS THAT INCLUDES NOT ONLY THE THIRD PARTY AUDITOR,
[01:20:06]
BUT ALSO PERSONNEL FROM MY DEPARTMENT AND ALSO LOCAL POLICE OFFICIALS, AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE DO ANNUALLY AS PART OF STATUTE.AS OF TODAY, THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY HAS CONDUCTED INTRUDER DETECTION AUDITS AT 71 OF OUR 77 CAMPUSES, OR ROUGHLY 92% WE JUST HAVE A FEW WEEKS LEFT TO GO, WHILE COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE LIKELY INTERESTED IN THE DETAILS OF THE AUDIT RESULTS.
TEA HAS INFORMED US THAT IT'S IN OUR BEST INTEREST OF THE STUDENTS THAT WE DO NOT SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH THE BROADER PUBLIC AS IT COULD LEAD TO COMPROMISING IMPORTANT CAMPUS SECURITY INFORMATION AS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW, AND AS YOU ARE AWARE, SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE IDA'S WERE DISCUSSED IN THE BOARD EXECUTIVE SESSION JUST A FEW MOMENTS AGO EARLIER THIS EVENING, AND THE RESULTS WILL ALSO BE DISCUSSED IN AN EXECUTIVE SESSION OF THE UPCOMING DISTRICT SAFETY AND SECURITY COMMITTEE, WHICH WILL OCCUR ON JUNE 6TH.
THE SUPPORT FROM THE STATE IN CONDUCTING THE IDA'S IS VERY HELPFUL.
IT'S JUST ONE OF THE MANY ACTIONS TAKEN BY FRISCO ISD TO ENSURE A SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
THE SUPPORT OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES IS SINCERELY APPRECIATED AS ALWAYS.
WITH THAT, I'LL TAKE ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.
>> BOARD, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME? THANK YOU. WE KNOW THAT YOU GAVE US ALL OF THE INFORMATION THAT WE NEEDED AND ANSWERED ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS DURING OUR CLOSED SESSION.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.
THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TODAY, AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO TO KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE.
>> THANK YOU FOR THOSE COMMENTS. I APPRECIATE IT.
>> BOARD, WE'RE MOVING BACK TO OUR ACTION ITEMS. I WILL MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 12B.
[12.B. Consider and act on the second reading to recommended revisions to Policy EIC (Local) per TASB Update 122 and departmental updates.]
CONSIDER AND ACT ON THE SECOND READING TO RECOMMENDED REVISIONS TO POLICY EIC LOCAL PER TASBY UPDATE 122 AND DEPARTMENTAL UPDATES.>> I MOVE TO APPROVE THE RECOMMENDED CHANGES TO EIC LOCAL BOARD POLICY PER TASBY UPDATE 122 AND DEPARTMENTAL UPDATES.
>> MOTION BY MR. CLASSE, SECOND BY MR. PONANGI.
BOARD, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME? MS. ELAD.
>> THE GPA POLICY IS IN THIS ONE? BECAUSE I DON'T SEE THAT ON HERE SEPARATELY.
THAT'S THE SECOND READING TO THE POLICY EIC LOCAL, CORRECT? IS IT POSSIBLE TO VOTE ON THOSE SEPARATELY? THE TASK B, RECOMMENDED UPDATES AND THE EIC LOCAL POLICY?
>> TO SEPARATE THEM? THEY'RE SEPARATE ITEMS.
Y'ALL DID THE SECOND READING OF THE OTHER TASBY UPDATES AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING AND THIS ONE IS JUST THIS POLICY, THE GPA POLICY.
ALL THE OTHER POLICIES FROM THE TASBY UPDATE HAVE ALREADY BEEN APPROVED.
>> BOARD, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? PONANGI.
>> YES, I HAD A FEW QUESTIONS.
>> WELL, SHE TURNED IT OFF, MR. LOWE.
>> YEAH. IT SEEMED LIKE ON UPDATING THIS POLICY, I'M SORRY, MY IPAD STARTED UPDATING.
IT SEEMED LIKE WE HAD A CHANGE TO THE BATHROOM POLICY, IS THAT CORRECT?
>> MR. LOWE, THIS IS STRICTLY ACADEMIC CHANGES.
>> I'M SORRY. IT SEEMS LIKE WE WERE DELETING SOME POLICY.
THEY DELETED IT FROM ONE PARTICULAR POLICY SECTION, AND THEY RE ADDED IT VERBATIM TO A DIFFERENT POLICY SECTION JUST BASED ON REORGANIZATION RECOMMENDATIONS FROM TASBY.
>. NO PROBLEM. THANK YOU, MR. CLASSE, I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT.
>> BOARD, ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME? [OVERLAPPING]
>> I DON'T HAVE A QUESTION, BUT I HAD A COUPLE COMMENTS THAT I WANTED TO MAKE JUST BEFORE WE VOTE.
>> I HAD I PREPARED A STATEMENT BECAUSE I HAD A FEW THINGS TO SAY SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE GPA POLICY, SO FIRST WHAT I WANT TO SAY IS I WANT TO COMMEND THE DISTRICT FOR THE WAY THAT THIS PROPOSED CHANGE WAS HANDLED AND COMMUNICATED.
PRESENTING THIS AT LAST MONTH'S MEETING AS A FIRST READ PRIOR TO THE VOTE THIS MONTH I THINK IT ENABLED TRANSPARENCY WITH THE COMMUNITY AND ALLOWED THE COMMUNITY THE OPPORTUNITY TO WEIGH IN,
[01:25:04]
AND WE DID RECEIVE SOME EMAILS AND SOME OTHER COMMENTS ABOUT THIS.I THINK IT ALSO GAVE THE BOARD THE CHANCE TO REFLECT AND TO ASK QUESTIONS AND GIVE US A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO PROCESS THIS CHANGE.
I DO HOPE THAT THIS BECOMES THE MODEL FOR HOW WE HANDLE SIMILAR DECISIONS OF THIS MAGNITUDE IN THE FUTURE.
I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS DONE AT MS. COLNEY'S RECOMMENDATION.
THERE YOU ARE. RIGHT IN FRONT.
I WAS LOOKING FOR YOU BACK THERE. I WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR THAT.
I ALSO WANT TO THANK DR. FIORI, DR. COOK, AND DR. HARP, AS WELL AS THEIR TEAMS FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND DILIGENCE THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS.
IN MY TIME AS A TRUSTEE, THERE HASN'T BEEN ANYTHING THAT I HAVE STRUGGLED WITH AS MUCH AS MY VOTE ON THIS PARTICULAR POLICY.
I DEFINITELY SEE THE BENEFITS OF THE CHANGE.
BUT I HAVE ALSO HAD SOME CONCERNS, WHICH I HAVE STATED.
AFTER THE MARCH MEETING, I WAS REALLY TORN ON HOW I WAS GOING TO VOTE ON THIS AND SO I DECIDED TO PUT OUT A CALL FOR FEEDBACK TO MY EMAIL LIST AND ON MY SOCIAL MEDIA TRUSTEE FACEBOOK PAGE AND I FIGURED THAT I WOULD LET THE FEEDBACK HELP GUIDE ME IN MY DECISION.
I RECEIVED A LOT OF RESPONSES, ACTUALLY, MORE THAN I ANTICIPATED, BOTH FROM PEOPLE WHO OFTENTIMES SHARE THEIR THOUGHTS WITH ME ON THINGS IN THE COMMUNITY AND ALSO FROM PEOPLE WHO'VE NEVER SHARED ANY FEEDBACK ON ANYTHING WITH ME BEFORE.
MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO PROVIDED FEEDBACK HAD ONE OR MORE CHILDREN WHO HAD GRADUATED ALREADY FROM FRISCO ISD, WHICH I FOUND INTERESTING, AND I ALSO HEARD FROM CURRENT AND FORMER TEACHERS.
THE FIRST FEW DAYS AFTER I DID THIS, THE FEEDBACK WAS TRENDING TOWARDS A YES ON THIS POLICY, AND THEN AFTER THAT, IT EVENED OUT A LITTLE BIT, THEN IT STARTED TO TREND THE OTHER WAY TOWARDS NO.
THE MAIN CONCERNS FOR THE NO SIDE WERE CONCERNS ABOUT DELETING THE ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM, LOWERING THE STANDARDS OF THE DISTRICT, LESS DIFFERENTIATION IN OUR CURRICULUM AMONG STUDENTS, GRADE INFLATION, AND UNCERTAINTY ABOUT UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES, AND THEN FINALLY, POTENTIAL NEGATIVE IMPACT ON STUDENTS TRYING TO GET INTO SOME OF THE MOST COMPETITIVE COLLEGES AS SOME OF THOSE INSTITUTIONS SPECIFICALLY ASKED HOW MANY AP CLASSES APPLICANTS HAVE TAKEN IN HIGH SCHOOL, SO ALL OF THOSE THINGS WERE INFORMATION SHARED WITH ME, AND THEN OF COURSE, THE BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM WERE SHARED AS WELL BY SOME COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
AS WE HAVE ALL ACKNOWLEDGED, THIS IS A REALLY BIG CHANGE FOR OUR DISTRICT THAT WILL HAVE SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON OUR STUDENTS FOR YEARS TO COME, AND SINCE THE COMMUNITY FEEDBACK THAT I RECEIVED WAS MIXED AND BECAUSE I CONTINUE TO HAVE NAGGING RESERVATIONS ABOUT THIS CHANGE, I HAVE DECIDED TO VOTE NO, BUT I DO APPRECIATE THE WORK.
I ANTICIPATE THIS VERY WELL MAY PASS, AND I WILL CERTAINLY SUPPORT IT IF IT DOES.
BUT FOR ME, THAT'S JUST WHERE I'M AT AND I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT.
I ALSO WANTED TO THANK ALL OF THE MANY COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO REACHED OUT.
I RECEIVED SOME VERY LENGTHY EMAILS, PARAGRAPHS LONG ABOUT THIS.
VERY PASSIONATE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE AND I'M VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THAT TIME THAT THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS TOOK TO SHARE THAT FEEDBACK, NOT ONLY WITH ME PERSONALLY, BUT ALSO SOME OF THEM DID REACH OUT TO THE ENTIRE BOARD OR THE LEADERS EMAIL. THANK YOU.
>> BOARD, ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? MR. CLASSE.
>> JUST A COUPLE COMMENTS PIGGYBACKING OFF OF MS. ELAD'S COMMENTS.
I DO APPRECIATE EVERYBODY THAT REACHED OUT TO US.
WE DID GO THROUGH MORE LENGTHY PROCESS THAN I CAN REMEMBER ON MOST ISSUES, BOTH IN SUBCOMMITTEE WHERE WE WERE PRETTY SKEPTICAL AND ASKED PRETTY POINTED QUESTIONS ONLY TO COME BACK AFTER THE HOLIDAYS AND SOME REFLECTION TO GET SOME ANSWERS AND TO MOVE FORWARD BEYOND THAT.
WE'VE HAD A FEW STAFF MEMBERS THAT HAVE REACHED OUT TO US TOO WITH SOME VALID CONCERNS, IN MY OPINION, AND THOSE HAVE BEEN SHARED WITH ADMINISTRATION AND SOME CONVERSATIONS HAVE BEEN HAD.
I THINK SOME OF THOSE THINGS ARE MISUNDERSTANDINGS THAT CAN BE WORKED THROUGH, OTHERS ARE JUST IMPORTANT THINGS FOR ADMINISTRATION TO HEAR FROM DUAL CREDIT TEACHERS AS WELL AS AP TEACHERS, AND THEIR CONCERNS OF THEIR PERCEPTIONS AND THE UNKNOWN A BIT.
I ALSO APPRECIATE ALL THE STUDENTS THAT PARTICIPATED AND GAVE US THEIR FEEDBACK ON THIS PROPOSED CHANGE AS WELL.
THEIR COMMENTS, BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE, WERE WELL RECEIVED AND INFORMATIVE TO ME MOVING FORWARD WITH THE CONCLUSION TODAY. THAT'S IT.
BOARD, IF THERE ARE NO FURTHER COMMENTS, I BELIEVE I SHARED MY COMMENTS DURING THE LAST MEETING AND I WILL NOT BELABOR THE MOMENT.
AS I KNOW IT IS 9:15, AND IT IS A SCHOOL NIGHT, I WILL LOOK FOR A VOTE.
[01:30:11]
MOTION PASSES. FOUR, TWO.BOARD WE'LL MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 12C.
[12.C. Consider and act on the Level 3 grievance appeal filing submitted by employee O. Dodson pursuant to Board Policy DGBA.]
CONSIDER AN ACT ON THE LEVEL 3 GRIEVANCE.FILING SUBMITTED BY EMPLOYEE O. DODSON, PURSUANT TO BOARD POLICY DGBA.
>> PRESIDENT, I'LL MOVE TO DENY RELIEF.
UPHOLD THE LEVEL TO EMPLOYEE GRIEVANCE DECISION OF THE ADMINISTRATION IN THE MATTER OF MISS DODSON.
ALL RELIEF NOT ALREADY GRANTED AT LEVEL 2 IS EXPRESSLY DENIED.
BOARD, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME? WELL, WE'VE DISCUSSED ALL OF THE QUESTIONS. WE CAN'T DO THAT OUT HERE.
BOARD WILL MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 12D,
[12.D. Consider and act on approving the 2024-2025 TEKS Certification]
CONSIDER AN ACT ON APPROVING THE 2024-'25 TEKS CERTIFICATION.>> I MOVED TO ACT ON APPROVING THE 2024-2025 TEKS CERTIFICATION.
BOARD ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS, CONCERNS AT THIS TIME? IF NOT, I'LL LOOK FOR A VOTE.
ITEM 12 E CONSIDERING ACT ON APPROVING
[12.E. Consider and act on approving the Proclamation 2024 recommendations ]
THE PROCLAMATION, 2024 RECOMMENDATION.>> YES. THANK YOU. WE HAVE A TEAM OF OUR DEPARTMENT HERE TO SHARE SOME INFORMATION WITH YOU TONIGHT THAT WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE PROCESS THAT WE ENGAGED UPON.
JUST TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS BY PROCLAMATION 2024 AS THEY'RE GETTING TO THE PODIUM THERE.
THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY, TEA, SETS A CYCLE FOR DISTRICTS TO FOLLOW REGARDING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL ADOPTIONS THROUGH WHAT THEY CALL PROCLAMATIONS.
THIS YEAR, PROCLAMATION 2024 WAS ISSUED BY THE STATE, IN WHICH TEXAS SCHOOL DISTRICT WERE TASKED WITH GOING THROUGH AN ADOPTION PROCESS OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR SCIENCE AND SELECTED CTE COURSES THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR.
OUR TEAM HAS WORKED THROUGH THIS PROCESS AND THEY'RE EXCITED TO SHARE THE PROCESS FOLLOWED WITH YOU TONIGHT IN THE FINAL SELECTION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS THAT WE THINK WILL BEST MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS STAFF AND THE REQUIRED TEKS ALIGNMENT.
UPON YOUR APPROVAL OF THE PROCESS THAT WE FOLLOWED TO MAKE OUR SELECTION, THEN WE WOULD BEGIN NEGOTIATIONS WITH THESE PARTICULAR VENDORS AND BRING FORWARD AN IMA EXPENDITURE OF THESE MATERIALS TO A FUTURE BOARD MEETING.
BUT BEFORE THE LADIES GET STARTED, I JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE ALL OF THE STAFF WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE ADOPTION PROCESS, INCLUDING CAMPUS LEADERS, TEACHER REPRESENTATIVES, CONTENT COORDINATORS, OUR TEAM OF DIRECTORS AS WELL.
I KNOW THAT THIS IS A LOT OF WORK AND DEEP THINKING ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE DAILY OPERATIONS OF WHAT EVERYONE DOES.
I JUST APPRECIATE ALL THE LONG HOURS AND DEDICATION AND INTEREST IN THIS PROCESS BECAUSE IT DOES NOT GO UNNOTICED, AND WE KNOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE THIS MAKES FOR OUR KIDS AND FOR OUR TEACHERS GETTING THOSE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS IN THEIR HANDS.
AT THIS TIME, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO MISS OER.
OUR MD, OUR MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ELEMENTARY TEACHING AND LEARNING.
THEN MISS MEREDITH MANUS, MD OF SECONDARY TEACHING AND LEARNING.
THEN DR. AMY HARP, OUR MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE PROCESS FOLLOWED TO GET TO THIS FINAL SELECTION.
GOOD EVENING DR. WALDRIP, MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND IST.
IT'S A PLEASURE TO BE HERE WITH YOU TONIGHT.
[01:35:02]
WE'RE HERE TO GIVE YOU A HIGH LEVEL OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS WE FOLLOW AS WE CONSIDER AND ADOPT INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS TONIGHT, OUR FOCUS WILL BE ON PROCLAMATION 2024 REGARDING K12 SCIENCE AND CTE.BEFORE WE GET STARTED WITH THE PRESENTATION, WE'D LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND THANK OUR COORDINATOR TEAMS. THEY ARE TRULY THE WHEELS ON THE BUS, THE MAGIC MAKERS BEHIND THE SCENES THAT MAKE SURE THAT WE ADHERE TO THE PROCESS AND THE WORK HAPPENS.
I WANTED TO INTRODUCE OUR SECONDARY TEAM.
WE HAVE DR. DEREK MCDOWELL, MISS BETH COLLINS FOR ELEMENTARY.
WE HAVE MISS AARON TURNER AND MISS AURORA DE SANTIAGO FOR CTE.
WE HAVE A LITTLE SPECIAL SITUATION.
DR. HARP HAD AN OPENING IN HER COORDINATOR POSITION, SO SHE WAS THE CHAMPION OF THIS PROCESS FOR HER DEPARTMENT.
HATS OFF TO THIS WONDERFUL TEAM.
AGAIN, I JUST WANT TO SAY WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT ALL OF THE WORK THAT GOES ON WITH THE PUBLISHERS BEHIND THE SCENES.
NOT TO MENTION THIS TEAM RIGHT HERE WAS THE FIRST TO INITIATE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT PREPARING FOR THE TOTAL ECLIPSE THAT WE EXPERIENCED YESTERDAY.
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THAT ON OUR RADAR.
AS I STATED, WE WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU A LIST OF COURSES THAT WERE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ADOPTION CYCLE.
TEA PROVIDES US WITH A LIST OF COURSES THAT ARE UP FOR REVIEW FOR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS.
THEY ALSO PROVIDE US WITH A LIST OF VETTED VENDORS AND PUBLISHERS FROM WHICH WE REVIEW AND MAKE OUR FINAL SELECTION.
HERE ARE THE COURSES THAT WERE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ADOPTION CYCLE.
>> HELLO. GOOD EVENING. WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ALSO ALIGN WITH OUR PRIORITIES HERE IN THIS DISTRICT.
OBVIOUSLY, OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ARE GOING TO ALIGN TO STATE AND DISTRICT STANDARDS AND THAT IS OUR FUTURE-READY FOCUS AREA OF GBC SO IT FITS RIGHT IN WITH THAT.
WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE RESOURCES ALLOW US TO MEET STUDENTS' NAME AND NEED, SO IT'S GOING TO ALLOW US FOR DIFFERENTIATION IN CLOSING ANY ACHIEVEMENT GAPS IN THESE AREAS AND THAT ALIGNS WITH OUR FOCUS AREA OF DIFFERENTIATE INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT.
THEN OUR FINAL PRIORITY IS MAKING SURE THAT THESE RESOURCES ALIGN WITH OUR INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY OF GETTING OUR STUDENTS FUTURE-READY AND THIS GOES WITH THE FOCUS AREA OF LEARNER-CENTERED EXPERIENCE.
ALL OF THE RESOURCES THAT WE'VE EDDED WENT THROUGH TO MAKE SURE THEY ALIGN WITH THESE.
HERE IS A HIGH-LEVEL OVERVIEW, LIKE MISS OER SAID, OF OUR PROCESS.
THIS STARTED WAY BACK LAST SUMMER.
REGION 10 HOSTED A VENDOR FAIR OF THE POSSIBLE MATERIALS THAT WOULD BE ON THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION LIST AND OUR COORDINATOR TEAM ATTENDED THAT FAIR TO GET A GLIMPSE AT THOSE RESOURCES EARLY.
THIS FALL, WE SOLICITED FEEDBACK FROM ALL OF OUR STAFF ON WHAT THEY WOULD WANT IN NEW ADOPTION MATERIALS AND WHAT THEIR PRIORITIES WERE.
WE FORMED AN ADOPTION COMMITTEE THAT WAS MADE UP OF COORDINATORS OUTSIDE OF THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT, WE INVOLVED OUR ASL AND SPED GT COORDINATORS THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS AND ALSO TEACHERS WERE ON THE COMMITTEE.
LIKE DR. FIORI SAID AT THE BEGINNING, THEY CAME AFTER HOURS TO DO A LOT OF WORK AND TO REALLY DIG INTO THESE MATERIALS AND ALSO DURING THE SCHOOL DAY AS WELL.
THEN WE NARROWED DOWN OUR LIST AND HAD THE VENDORS COME IN AND TALK WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS AND REALLY ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT THEY HAD SO THAT THEY COULD HELP AND DECIDE WHAT THEIR RECOMMENDATION MIGHT BE.
THEN WE ALSO HAD A PUBLIC VIEWING OF MATERIALS, SO ANYBODY IN OUR COMMUNITY WAS WELCOME TO COME AND LOOK THROUGH WHAT WE WERE CONSIDERING FOR ADOPTION, AND SO THAT BRINGS US TO YOU GUYS TONIGHT TO JUST SHARE OUR PROCESS WITH YOU AND TO GET YOUR APPROVAL ON THE DIRECTION WE'RE HEADED.
>> FOR CTE WE FOLLOWED THE SAME PROCESS THAT SCIENCE FOLLOWED.
I JUST WANT TO REALLY GIVE A SHOUT-OUT TO MY CTER CTE FACILITATOR, NICOLE, AARON POOR, AND ALSO THE LEADS THAT REALLY STEPPED UP DURING THIS PROCESS WHEN WE WERE WITHOUT A COORDINATOR.
[01:40:01]
WE WERE JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEHIND SCIENCE AND WE AGAIN FOLLOWED THE SAME PROCESS.WE ACTUALLY WENT OUT TO REGION 10 WITH SOME OF THE LEADS THAT ARE THE TEACHERS OF THESE PARTICULAR COURSES AND WERE ABLE TO ATTEND THEIR PRESENTATIONS AND ALSO TALK WITH THE DIFFERENT VENDORS.
INSTEAD OF AN IN-PERSON MEETING, WE HAD TEAMS MEETINGS SO THAT THOSE WERE RECORDED AND THEN SHARED WITH ALL OF THE FACULTY IN CTE.
THOSE ARE NOT ALL THE CTE COURSES.
THE STATE DECIDES PER THE PROCLAMATION ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF COURSES ARE GOING TO BE APPROVED FOR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS, AND THAT'S WHERE WE ARE AS FAR AS RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD.
>> BASED ON OUR RUBRICS, OUR STAKEHOLDER FEEDBACK, OUR COMMITTEE FEEDBACK, AND THE TIGHT ALIGNMENT WITH OUR ADOPTION PRIORITIES, WE'D LIKE TO NOW SHARE OUR RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING PUBLISHERS WITH WHICH WE'D LIKE TO INITIATE NEGOTIATIONS.
FOR ELEMENTARY WE ARE RECOMMENDING HOUGHTON MIFFLIN HARCOURT HMH INTO SCIENCE TEXAS.
FOR SECONDARY, WE WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND SAVVAS FOR 612 SCIENCE.
>> FOR CTE, WE WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND SEVERAL DIFFERENT VENDORS AND PUBLISHERS.
OF COURSE, THESE PARTICULAR COURSES ARE VERY SPECIFIC TO THE VENDOR THAT IS OFFERING THEM AND AGAIN, WE MAY HAVE ONLY ONE OR TWO TEACHERS TEACHING THESE PARTICULAR COURSES SO WE REALLY LISTEN TO THAT TEACHER VOICE USING THAT RUBRIC THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS.
WE HAVE GOODHEART-WILCOX, CODEHS, CENGAGE LEARNING, EDYNAMIC, AND A TEXAS TECH GROUP, THE CURRICULUM CENTER FOR FAMILY CONSUMER SCIENCES.
>> JUST TO FOLLOW UP AND COME TO A CLOSURE WITH THIS TOPIC PRIOR TO VOTING THIS PROCESS THAT THEY WENT THROUGH IS OUR PROCESS FOR ANY MATERIALS THAT WE WOULD GO THROUGH ADOPTION WITH ANY PROCLAMATION, SO WITH THE NEXT PROCLAMATION AND WE GO THROUGH THAT PROCESS AND COME BACK, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THAT SAME PROCESS AGAIN BECAUSE THAT PROCESS IS IN ALIGNMENT WITH HELPING US GET THROUGH AND ALIGN TO ALL THE PIECES THAT WE NEED TO WITH THE STATE, WITH OUR DISTRICT, AND ALSO GETTING THAT FEEDBACK FROM ALL OF OUR STAKEHOLDERS.
JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE YOU ALL ARE AWARE OF THAT.
YOU'LL KEEP HEARING THAT COME EVERY TIME WE GO THROUGH A PROCLAMATION.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. FORWARD, I'LL LOOK FOR A MOTION.
>> I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THE PROCLAMATION 2024 RECOMMENDATIONS.
>> MOTION BY MR. CLASSE SECOND BY MR. PONANGI.
BOARD ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS AT THIS TIME?
>> I JUST HAD A COUPLE OF QUICK QUESTIONS.
THIS PROCLAMATION WAS FIRST SCIENCE.
HOW LONG WILL IT BE UNTIL WE NEED TO REVIEW SCIENCE MATERIALS AGAIN, LIKE HOW LONG IS THIS GOOD FOR HOW MANY YEARS?
>> TYPICALLY EIGHT YEARS IS WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT.
>> WE TALKED ABOUT PUBLISHERS, OR THERE'S A RECOMMENDATION FOR PUBLISHERS THAT YOU MENTIONED FOR ELEMENTARY, SECONDARY, ETC.
I'M ASSUMING THAT PART OF THAT WORK WAS ALREADY DETERMINING WHICH MATERIALS WITHIN THOSE PUBLISHERS LIKE WE ALREADY HAVE THAT DECIDED.
I REALIZE YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SHARE ALL THAT TODAY, BUT I'M ASSUMING THAT WAS THE WORK.
I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT ASSUMPTION WAS ACCURATE.
>> THEY HAVE WENT THROUGH EVERYTHING WITH FINE TOOTH COMB RIGHT NOW.
WE'RE OBVIOUSLY, WE WANTED YOUR ALL'S APPROVAL ON THE PROCESS IN VALIDATING THAT WE WENT THROUGH ALL THE STEPS THAT WE SHOULD PRIOR TO MAKING THOSE NEGOTIATIONS.
BUT THEN, YES, IT'S A MATTER OF LOOKING AT THE DIFFERENT BUNDLES, THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS AND THOSE THINGS TO MAKE THOSE FINAL DECISIONS.
>> THANK YOU. I JUST WANTED TO VALIDATE THAT.
THANK YOU FOR STAYING HERE UNTIL 9:30 AND FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.
>> ORDER THERE ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? IF NOT, I'LL LOOK FOR A VOTE.
MOTION PASSES SIX ZERO, WHERE IT WILL MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 12 F,
[12.F. Consider and act on contract recommendations for personnel including: 1. Managing Director of Special Education 2. Principal of Elementary School (To be assigned)]
CONSIDER AN ACT ON THE CONTRACT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PERSONNEL, INCLUDING MANAGING DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, DOCTOR JILL SKER, AND PRINCIPAL OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO BE ASSIGNED,[01:45:04]
DOCTOR JULIAN DENTON. I'LL LOOK FOR A MOTION.>> I MOVED TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PERSONNEL INCLUDING MANAGING DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND PRINCIPAL OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO BE ASSIGNED.
>> MOTION BY MR. LOWE SECOND BY MR. PENANGI ORDER.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME, MISS ALLOT? THAT I'LL LOOK FOR A VOTE.
CONGRATULATIONS TO DOCTOR JILL SKERR AND DOCTOR JULIE ANN DENTON ORG WILL NOW MOVE TO OUR FINAL AGENDA ITEM, WHICH IS 13, CONSENT AGENDA A THROUGH H. LOOK FOR A MOTION.
[13. Consent Agenda]
>> MOVE TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE FOR BEING HERE WITH US THIS EVENING.
SPECIAL. THANK YOU TO OUR SRO'S.
[LAUGHTER] THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE.
WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU. HAVE A GOOD NIGHT.
