I'M JUST SAYING. HE DIDN'T BRING ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE.
NOT ON ME. WE'RE GOING TO GO AHEAD AND MOVE ON TO ITEM 4, DISCUSSION REGARDING PARTNERS
[4. Discussion regarding Partners in Education]
IN EDUCATION. MS. MCCUNE THANK YOU.I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE ALLISON MILLER, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS.
DR. WALDRIP, [INAUDIBLE], PRESIDENT ARCHAMBAULT AND SCHOOL BOARD, THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALLOWING US TO RECOGNIZE OUR PARTNERS IN ED AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS.
BEFORE I INTRODUCE OUR PARTNER THIS MONTH, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT THIS MONTH, APRIL IS VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
CURRENTLY, WE HAVE 13,602 COMMUNITY MEMBERS VOLUNTEERING IN OUR SCHOOLS FOR OUR STUDENTS WHO HAVE LOGGED ALMOST 8000 HOURS.
NOW, IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, WE DIDN'T HAVE VOLUNTEERS IN OUR SCHOOLS AT THE BEGINNING, SO THEY REALLY PRESSED ON WHEN IT BECAME CRUNCH TIME TOWARDS THE END.
IF YOU ARE IN THE AUDIENCE AND YOU VOLUNTEER IN OUR SCHOOLS OR ON OUR CAMPUSES, WILL YOU PLEASE STAND? [APPLAUSE] THE STUDENTS THAT YOU SAW HERE TONIGHT ARE JUST A SAMPLE OF SOME OF THOSE--.
WELL, A SAMPLE OF THE STUDENTS IN FRISCO ISD, AND THAT'S WHO YOU'RE POURING YOUR TIME INTO. SO WE APPRECIATE YOU VERY MUCH.
TONIGHT'S PARTNER IN ED THAT I WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE IS PRESTON TRAIL AND THEIR FIX-IT TEAM.
IN HONOR OF VOLUNTEER APPRECIATES MONTH.
WE'D LIKE TO RECOGNIZE A GROUP OF DEDICATED COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS FROM PRESTON TRAIL COMMUNITY CHURCH.
THE FIX-IT TEAM COMPLETED A VARIETY OF REPAIRS AND ENHANCEMENTS AT BRIGHT ACADEMY, EARLY CHILDHOOD SCHOOL AND ROGERS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THAT INCLUDED BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO ASSEMBLING SMALL TRAMPOLINES AND PICNIC TABLES, REPAINTING THE CONCRETE PLAYGROUND, INSTALLING AN OUTDOOR LEARNING STAGE AND BUILDING GARDEN PLANTERS IN A 30 FOOT SENSORY PATH FOR STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DIFFERENCES IN ONE OF OUR CAMPUSES, THIS FIX-IT TEAM DEPLOYS ACROSS THE DISTRICT TO--.
I DON'T DO THAT, RIGHT? [INAUDIBLE].
THEY DEPLOYED WITH THEIR TEAM, EVEN THEIR CHILDREN, TO GO ONTO OUR CAMPUSES, TO SPRUCE THEM UP AND LEND A HAND FOR OUR STAFF.
SO AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO CALL SHARON WHITE, OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH LIAISON.
DR. WALDRIP AND PRESIDENT ARCHAMBAULT.
AND WITH THE FIX-IT TEAM FROM PRESTON TRAIL COMMUNITY CHURCH, RYAN ANDERSON.
AND I'M NOT MAKING THIS ONE UP.
DID I MISS THAT UP? AND THEIR COMMUNITY PASTOR FOR PRESTON TRAIL, JIM MUSTAIN.
WELL, WE'RE JUST GRATEFUL THAT WE GET TO PARTNER WITH OUR SCHOOLS HERE.
THAT'S A BIG PART OF WHAT WE BELIEVE TO BLESS OUR COMMUNITY AND HELP OUR COMMUNITY.
[01:05:01]
AND SO THANK YOU, DR.WALDRIP, FOR LETTING US ON BOARD AND SHARON AND ALLISON, TO BE ABLE TO PARTNER WITH YOU ALL. AND AS A PASTOR, I WOULD BE REMISS TO REMIND YOU THIS IS EASTER THIS WEEKEND, AND WE HAVE SIX SERVICES ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.
[APPLAUSE] SO WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYWHERE TO BE.
[APPLAUSE] AND SO A LOT OF THE MEN YOU SAW ON THOSE PICTURES IS IN A GROUP WITH [INAUDIBLE] AND MYSELF.
AND WE'RE JUST A GROUP OF GUYS THAT MEET EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT.
AND AT THE BEGINNING OF 2021, WE WERE MEETING, WE SAID, HEY, WE DON'T WANT TO BE A GROUP THAT JUST MEETS EVERY TUESDAY.
WE WANT TO BE A GROUP THAT GOES OUT AND SERVES THE COMMUNITY.
SO WE MADE A COMMITMENT TO GO IN THE COMMUNITY ONCE A MONTH AND SERVE.
WE'VE DONE MCKINNEY ISD AND A LOT OF OTHER NONPROFITS WE'VE SERVED AT, AND I CHUCKLE WHEN I SEE SOME OF THOSE PICTURES THAT WERE UP THERE, BECAUSE WE'RE NOT ROOFERS, WE'RE NOT SENSORY PATH EXPERTS, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THE LORD PROVIDED AND WE WERE ABLE TO DO IT.
AND IF I'M COMPLETELY HONEST, WE WERE HESITANT TO COME HERE BECAUSE WE DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE ANY RECOGNITION OR GLORY, BECAUSE REALLY ALL THE GLORY GOES TO GOD.
AND THEN THE LAST THING I'LL SAY IS WE JUST WANT EVERYONE AT THIS STAFF, EVERYONE IN THIS COUNCIL TO KNOW THAT YOU HAVE A GROUP OF MEN IN PRESTON TRAIL CHURCH THAT WANTS TO SERVE YOU AND BE THERE FOR YOU GUYS.
SO THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR BEING HERE.
WE APPRECIATE YOUR PARTNERSHIP.
THANK YOU. WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM 5, INVOCATION.
[5. Invocation]
MR. RUDY? PLEASE JOIN ME IN PRAYER.GRACIOUS GOD, WE THANK YOU FOR THIS DAY AND THE MANY BLESSINGS IN OUR LIVES.
WE ARE SURROUNDED BY YOUR GREATNESS EACH AND EVERY DAY.
WE PRAY THAT YOU GUIDE THE DECISIONS OF THIS BOARD AND DISTRICT LEADERSHIP.
WE ARE GRATEFUL TO OUR AMAZING TEACHERS WHO PREPARE EACH STUDENT FOR HIS OR HER UNIQUE FUTURE. WE PRAY FOR THOSE THAT KEEP OUR CLASSROOMS SAFE, FOR STUDENTS TO LEARN AND GROW.
THANK YOU. WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM 6.
[6. Board Report]
BOARD REPORT.BOARD? ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION? GO AHEAD. WELL, FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE KIDDOS THAT WERE HERE TONIGHT. THAT JUST IS A TESTAMENT TO HOW AWESOME THIS DISTRICT IS, BUT I ALSO WANT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS TO WAKELAND HIGH BOYS AND GIRLS WHO ARE BOTH HEADED TO THE STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP.
CONGRATULATIONS [APPLAUSE]. WE ALSO WERE FORTUNATE TO ATTEND OUR TEACHER OF THE YEAR CELEBRATION, AND WE WANT TO THANK ALL OF OUR TEACHERS FOR BEING INCREDIBLE MEMBERS OF THIS FRISCO ISD COMMUNITY.
AND YOU'RE THE REASON THAT WE GET UP EVERY DAY.
YOU SERVE OUR STUDENTS WELL, AND WE ARE VERY APPRECIATIVE AND WANT TO JUST CONGRATULATE ALL OF OUR FINALISTS AT EACH CAMPUS, AS WELL AS OUR TWO DISTRICT TEACHERS OF THE YEAR.
SO CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE] JUST ONE MORE THING AS MS. MILLER ANNOUNCED THAT IT IS VOLUNTEER MONTH AND I WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO PTA COUNCIL FOR GIVING US THE T-SHIRTS, WHICH I LEFT BACK THERE BECAUSE THEY'RE REALLY CUTE T-SHIRTS.
BUT ANYWAY, TOMORROW IS THE PTA PRESIDENTS LUNCHEON, AND AS SHE STATED, THERE ARE 13,302 VOLUNTEERS THAT VOLUNTEER WITHIN FISD, BUT THAT DOES NOT EVEN TOUCH HOW MANY PTA VOLUNTEERS WE HAVE.
SO I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ANYONE WHO IS HERE THAT VOLUNTEERS WITH PTA IN OUR SCHOOLS EVERY DAY AND ALL THE ONES THAT MAY BE LISTENING AND THAT ARE ON CAMPUSES EVERY SINGLE DAY. SO THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] CAN WE PUT YOU ALL ON THE SPOT? AND IF WE HAVE ANY VOLUNTEERS IN THE AUDIENCE, WOULD YOU PLEASE STAND? YEAH. THERE'S ONE.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. MAY I ADD ONE MORE THING? I GUESS SO.
[LAUGHTER] WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TODAY TO VISIT FRISCO FAMILY SERVICES, AND THEY'RE AN AWESOME OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR EVERYBODY IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO NEEDS A LITTLE BIT OF HELP, BUT THEY NEED VOLUNTEERS.
SO IF YOU DO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY AND YOU HAVE TIME TO SPARE AND HELP OUT THAT PROGRAM, THAT WOULD BE-.
THEY NEED IT. SO JUST A LITTLE PLUG FOR THEM.
WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM 7, REVIEW STATUS OF REQUIRED TRUSTEE TRAINING.
[7. Review status of required trustee training]
EVERYONE HAS COMPLETED THEIR TRAINING AND THAT IS A VERY SHORT SENTENCE FOR A WHOLE LOT OF HOURS AND WORK THAT GO INTO THE CONTINUING EDUCATION TRAINING THAT WE ALL TAKE INCREDIBLY SERIOUSLY AS A BOARD OF SEVEN.[01:10:04]
WE ARE THE ONLY, I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT'S JUST COMMON KNOWLEDGE, BUT WE ARE THE ONLY ELECTED OFFICIALS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS THAT HAVE REQUIRED CONTINUING EDUCATION TRAINING.AND WE ARE APPRECIATIVE OF THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO TRAIN WITH TRUSTEES ACROSS THIS GREAT STATE. AND SO I WANT TO THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU FOR NOT ONLY THE SERVICE THAT YOU HAVE GIVEN TO THIS COMMUNITY WITH YOUR BOARD SERVICE, BUT ALSO THE CONTINUING EDUCATION THAT YOU PUT IN TO BECOMING BETTER AT YOUR ROLE AND CONTINUING TO ADVOCATE FOR THIS COMMUNITY. SO THANK YOU BOARD FOR GIVING YOUR ALL THIS YEAR AND EVERY YEAR.
WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM 8, DISCUSSION REGARDING COLLEGE CAREER AND MILITARY READINESS
[8. Discussion regarding College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) Report]
REPORT. DR. CUNNINGHAM? YES, GOOD EVENING. THANK YOU.WE DO AN ANNUAL UPDATE ON OUR HOUSE BILL PLAN FOR CCMR MILITARY READINESS AND EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY AND MATH.
WE'RE GOING TO PROVIDE YOU SOME INFORMATION ABOUT WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE'RE GOING.
I'M GOING TO INVITE DR. CHRIS CLARK, OUR MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS, TO THE PODIUM TO GIVE YOU ALL THE GREAT STUFF.
ALL RIGHT. WELL, GOOD EVENING.
I DO WANT TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES OF YOUR TIME TONIGHT AND GIVE YOU OUR ANNUAL UPDATE ON CCMR AND THE EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY AND MATH PORTIONS OF HOUSE BILL 3.
JUST A LITTLE BACKGROUND, JUST TO REFRESH YOUR MEMORY OR IF YOU'RE NOT AWARE TO FILL YOU IN. HOUSE BILL 3 IS A WELL KNOWN SCHOOL FINANCE BILL THAT WAS PASSED IN 2019 BY THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE INCLUDED SEVERAL REQUIREMENTS AND INITIATIVES FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE. BUT TONIGHT WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT CCMR AND THE EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY AND MATH. THE STATE'S REQUIREMENT FOR ECLM AND CCMR WERE DEVELOPED AS ACTION ITEMS FROM THE SCHOOL FINANCE COMMISSION'S 60 BY 30 TEXAS GOAL, WHICH WAS TO HAVE 60% OF THE STATE STUDENTS REACH PROFICIENCY BY THE YEAR 2030.
THE SCHOOL FINANCE COMMISSION RECOMMENDED THESE TWO CHECKPOINTS, CCMR AND ECLM AS PART OF THE PREK-12 SYSTEM.
THEY DO FOR STAAR PURPOSES FOR THEIR EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY AND MATH USE THE MEETS GRADE LEVEL STANDARD.
JUST TO TO CLARIFY THAT, AS YOU LOOK AT THE DATA THAT WAS PROVIDED TO YOU OR THAT'S IN THE PRESENTATION, MEET STANDARD IS A HIGHER STANDARD THAN APPROACHES GRADE LEVEL, WHICH IS WHAT WE NORMALLY REFER TO WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT STUDENTS PASSING STAAR.
SO THAT'S JUST SOMETHING TO CONSIDER.
SOME OTHER THINGS ABOUT HOUSE BILL 3.
SO IT DID REQUIRE US TO ESTABLISH, EVERY DISTRICT, TO ESTABLISH FIVE YEAR GOALS FOR CCMR AND EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY AND MATH, AND GAINED BOARD APPROVAL, WHICH WAS DONE IN FRISCO IN JANUARY OF 21, AND THEN UPDATE THE BOARD ANNUALLY ON PROGRESS, WHICH IS WHAT WE'RE DOING TONIGHT.
SO THE STATE DOES REQUIRE THAT WE INCLUDE ANNUAL TARGETS THAT ARE WRITTEN FOR EACH CAMPUS, FOR THE DISTRICT, AND THAT THEY ARE BROKEN OUT BY SUBPOPULATIONS OF ANY POPULATION THAT HAS 25 OR MORE STUDENTS.
SO ALL OF THAT DATA AND THOSE TARGETS IS INCLUDED IN THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO YOU.
THESE GOALS DO OVERLAP WITH THE CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS AND THAT PROCESS THAT CAMPUSES GO THROUGH. SO YOU'LL SEE SOME PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS INCLUDED IN SOME OF THE CCMR OR EARLY CHILDHOOD PLANS THAT YOU WERE PROVIDED.
BUT SOME OF THE CAMPUSES JUST USE THEIR CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANNING PROCESS TO ADDRESS THAT. SO EITHER OF THOSE IS FINE.
THEY OVERLAP. SO JUST TO FOCUS ON THE CCMR ASPECT OF HOUSE BILL 3 FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. CCMR DATA, COLLEGE, CAREER, MILITARY READINESS, I CALL IT CCMR ALL THE TIME, A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T ALWAYS REMEMBER THE MEANING OF THAT, BUT IT'S INCLUDED IN EVERY HIGH SCHOOL AND DISTRICT'S ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT AND RATING, WHICH CAN PLAY OUT IN A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT WAYS.
BUT IT DOES ACCOUNT FOR APPROXIMATELY 40% OF THE HIGH SCHOOL'S ACCOUNTABILITY RATING.
THE TEA GLOSSARY FOR ACCOUNTABILITY DOES--.
IF YOU WANT TO GO IN MORE DETAIL, YOU CAN READ A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT HOW THAT DATA IS INCORPORATED. THERE'S A FEW DIFFERENT SCENARIOS, BUT OVERALL, 40% IS IS A GOOD ESTIMATE.
SO ONE IMPORTANT ASPECT IS TO CONSIDER HOW DOES A STUDENT REACH CCMR CRITERIA BY THE TIME THEY LEAVE OUR HIGH SCHOOLS OR COMPLETE 12TH GRADE OR HOPEFULLY GRADUATE? SO YOU CAN SEE ON THE SLIDE THERE ARE FIVE WAYS UNDER COLLEGE READINESS FOR STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE CCMR, AND THEN THERE ARE FIVE WAYS UNDER THE MILITARY AND CAREER READINESS PART OF CCMR.
[01:15:02]
SO TSI, OR TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE, THERE'S A FEW WAYS WITHIN THAT THAT STUDENTS CAN ACHIEVE CCMR BY SAT SCORES, ACHIEVEMENT ON THE TSIA OR ACT OR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A SPECIALIZED COLLEGE PREP COURSE, WHICH WE OFFER IN READING AND MATH HERE IN FRISCO ISD.MOST OF OUR STUDENTS THAT ACHIEVE CCMR THROUGH TSI DO IT THROUGH THE SAT ASSESSMENT.
ANOTHER WAY IS THROUGH DUAL CREDIT HOURS SO THEY CAN GET 3 HOURS, THREE PASSING CREDIT HOURS OF ENGLISH OR MATH DOESN'T HAVE TO BE BOTH OR 9 HOURS OF ANY OTHER CONTENT.
SO THAT CAN INCLUDE OUR CTE DUAL CREDIT COURSES AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
STUDENTS CAN ALSO EARN A THREE OR MORE ON AN AP OR FOUR ON AN IB EXAM, EARN AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE, WHICH WE DO HAVE A SMALL NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT DO THAT.
AND THEN ON-RAMPS IS A COURSE THAT WE DON'T OFFER.
IT'S A DIFFERENT VERSION OF A DUAL CREDIT COURSE.
BUT WE DO NOT DO THAT HERE IN FRISCO.
SO FOR CAREER AND MILITARY READINESS, LET ME TALK ABOUT MILITARY READINESS FIRST.
SO THAT IS TEMPORARILY ON HOLD BY TEA BECAUSE OF--.
NOT BECAUSE OF ANY WRONGDOING OR ANYTHING, BUT BECAUSE TRACKING IT REPORTING IT IS QUITE DIFFICULT TO DO.
SO, THEY HAVEN'T FOUND A WAY TO DO THAT JUST YET.
SO THAT IS STILL A CRITERIA, BUT NOBODY'S TRACKING THAT DATA JUST YET.
STUDENTS CAN EARN AN INDUSTRY BASED CERTIFICATION OR A LEVEL ONE OR LEVEL TWO CERTIFICATE. SO THOSE ARE TWO OPTIONS THROUGH OUR CTE PROGRAMS, LEVEL ONE AND TWO CERTIFICATES ARE MORE ALONG THE LINES--.
THEY'RE TYPICALLY ASSOCIATED WITH SOME TYPE OF COLLEGE CREDIT.
AT THE COLLIN COLLEGE TECHNICAL CAMPUS, AN INDUSTRY BASED CERT IS SOMETHING THEY TAKE AS PART OF A CLASS AT OUR CATE CENTER.
AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THOSE TWO OPTIONS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE SERVED THROUGH SPECIAL EDUCATION, DEPENDING ON THEIR THEIR NEEDS AND ABILITIES.
THERE ARE A COUPLE OF OPTIONS FOR THEM TO REACH CCMR CRITERIA AS WELL.
SO ONE IMPORTANT POINT IS WHEN DATA IS INCLUDED IN THE ACCOUNTABILITY RATING FOR A CAMPUS, THERE'S A YEAR LAG ON THE CCMR DATA.
SO THE DATA FOR THE 2021 ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOLS AND DISTRICT IS ACTUALLY BASED ON PERFORMANCE CCMR FOR THE 19-20 GRADUATES.
ONE--. ANOTHER THING I WANTED TO POINT OUT ABOUT THAT AS WELL IS THAT SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS IN FRISCO ISD HAVE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER.
WE WILL HAVE A DASHBOARD COMPLETED WHERE WE CAN MONITOR LIVE DATA SO IT DOESN'T DO AS MUCH GOOD TO GET DATA, YOU KNOW, SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER STUDENTS HAVE GRADUATED AND LEFT OUR SYSTEM. SO WE'RE GOING TO TRACK STUDENT PERFORMANCE AS THEY PROGRESS THROUGH THE HIGH SCHOOL GRADES.
ALL RIGHT, SO HERE YOU CAN SEE OUR GOALS.
THIS IS OUR DISTRICT GOALS, AND THE TOP PART, LOOKS VERY SIMILAR TO THE PACKET YOU WERE GIVEN FOR EVERY CAMPUS.
YOU CAN SEE OUR GOAL IS TO INCREASE FROM 76% TO 83% OVER THE FIVE YEARS.
I ADDED THAT DATA AT THE BOTTOM FROM THE TEXAS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT.
JUST TO KIND OF GIVE YOU SOME CONTEXT, SO THE GOALS WERE WRITTEN BASED OFF OF PERFORMANCE PRIOR TO COVID.
AND SO YOU CAN SEE THAT WE HIT A LITTLE--.
COVID IMPACTED THE PERFORMANCE, BUT YOU CAN LOOK AT THE REGION AND THE STATE PERFORMANCE AND SEE THAT FRISCO HAS KIND OF HELD A LITTLE MORE STEADY THAN THE REST OF THE STATE IN OUR REGION. ALL RIGHT.
YOU ALSO WERE GIVEN A COPY OF OUR DISTRICT CCMR PLAN.
SO IT OUTLINES DISTRICT INITIATIVES OR PROGRAMS OR THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING FROM A DEPARTMENTAL STANDPOINT IN FRISCO ISD TO IMPROVE CCMR. IT DOESN'T INCLUDE EVERY CAMPUS'S INITIATIVE, SO IT'S REALLY BROAD.
HERE'S AN OVERVIEW OF SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THAT PLAN.
NOT TRYING TO. WE'RE WORKING TO INCREASE THE OFFERINGS OF INDUSTRY BASED CERTIFICATIONS AND LEVEL ONE TWO CERTIFICATES.
THE STATE DOES PROVIDE 240 ISH OPTIONS, BUT THEY AREN'T ALL RELEVANT BASED ON THE COURSES THAT WE OFFER HERE AT OUR CATE CENTER OR FOR OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS.
SO WE'RE IDENTIFYING THOSE THAT WILL MEET THOSE NEEDS.
ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS OR MOST OF THEM HAVE SOME TYPE OF PROGRAM OR SYSTEM TO IDENTIFY
[01:20:04]
STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT TAKING AN AP COURSE BUT WOULD BENEFIT FROM TAKING ONE.SO WE CAN INCREASE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM. WE'RE ALSO OFFERING MORE AND OR ADDITIONAL AP COURSES THAT ARE A GOOD STARTING POINT FOR STUDENTS THAT THIS MIGHT BE THEIR FIRST COURSE TO TAKE.
SCHOOL DAY SAT ALSO CATCHES A LOT OF STUDENTS, SINCE WE PROVIDE SAT TO EVERY STUDENT WHO IS IN THE 11TH GRADE IN FRISCO ISD.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, DUAL CREDIT OFFERINGS ARE ALSO INCREASING, OFFERING MORE ZERO HOUR OPTIONS.
PARTNERING WITH UNT IN ADDITION TO COLLIN TO PROVIDE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS. OKAY.
SO WE'LL SWITCH GEARS A LITTLE BIT AND TALK ABOUT EARLY CHILDHOOD AND LITERACY, THE EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY AND MATH.
THIS IS KIND OF THE PRECURSOR TO CCMR, THE THINKING THAT IF WE CAN GET STUDENTS WHO ACHIEVE BE PROFICIENT IN THIRD GRADE, THAT THEY'RE MORE LIKELY TO ACHIEVE THAT CCMR STATUS WHEN THEY GRADUATE.
SO SIMILAR TO THE CCMR DATA, I INCLUDED THE DISTRICT'S GOAL AND THE TARGETS, BUT THEN ALSO THE DATA FROM OUR TAPR REPORT FOR THE STATE AND THE REGION IN COMPARISON TO FRISCO ISD. YOU DO SEE A SIMILAR DECREASE IN PERFORMANCE, SO TO SPEAK, BUT WE STILL OUTPERFORM THE STATE QUITE A BIT.
AND THIS IS, JUST AS A REMINDER, THIS IS STUDENTS WHO MEET GRADE LEVEL AND NOT APPROACH.
AND THEN THE LITERACY GOAL IS VERY SIMILAR IN TERMS OF DATA.
AND THEN HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DISTRICT STRATEGIES THAT WERE PUT IN PLACE TO IMPROVE THE EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY AND MATH PERFORMANCE.
READING ACADEMIES, THOSE WERE A HUGE COMMITMENT FROM OUR TEACHERS.
ALL K-3 TEACHERS HAVE ARE PRETTY CLOSE TO COMPLETING THEM.
I BELIEVE MOST OF THEM HAVE AT THIS POINT, IF I'M CORRECT, DR.
CUNNINGHAM. OUR PLANS ARE BEING MADE TO COMPLETE ADDITIONAL GRADES.
SOME ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENTS WERE ADDED TO THE EARLY CHILDHOOD AND KINDERGARTEN GRADES TO DO ADDITIONAL PROGRESS MONITORING AND INFORM INTERVENTION AS NECESSARY FOR STUDENTS.
AND PROBABLY THE MOST EXCITING PIECE IS THE EXPANSION OF OUR PRE-K PROGRAM.
SO FROM 19-20, WE WENT FROM 34 HALF DAY CLASSES WITH 17 TEACHERS, 573 STUDENTS TO 22-23.
WE WE WILL HAVE 53 FULL DAY CLASSES AND TEACHERS IN APPROXIMATELY 1050 STUDENTS.
AND SO THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE EXCITING THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON IN FRISCO TO ADDRESS THIS AND AREN'T ALL INCLUSIVE OF EVERYTHING THAT THE CAMPUSES ARE DOING AS WELL.
THAT IS IT. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? I JUST HAVE A CLARIFYING QUESTION.
YES. JUST TO MAKE SURE, WE'RE LOOKING AT MEETS GRADE LEVEL VERSUS APPROACHING GRADE LEVEL, AND TYPICALLY WHENEVER WE LOOK AT THE TAPR AND WE LOOK AT PASSING RATES FOR THE DISTRICT IN THE STATE.
IN THE REGION, WE LOOK AT APPROACHES WHICH ARE MUCH HIGHER PERCENTAGES THAN THIS ONE? YES. SO THIS PAINTS A LITTLE BIT OF A DIFFERENT PICTURE SHOWING THAT OUR KIDS ARE HIGHER? YEAH, SO THE GRADE LEVEL IS A HIGHER STANDARD AND APPROACHES, BUT APPROACHES IS CONSIDERED PASSING, SO WE GENERALLY REPORT OUT PASSING.
DR. CUNNINGHAM, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT TO ADD ANYTHING TO THAT? I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT'S ONE OF THE-- [COUGH] EXCUSE ME.
DATA POINTS THAT DR. NYE SHARED LAST MONTH, THAT IF FOLKS WANT TO TAKE A LOOK AT THAT REPORT, THAT'S UP ON THE WEBSITE.
BOARD, ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? OKAY. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
[9. Discussion regarding Instructional Materials Allotment (IMA) Report]
ALL RIGHT. WE APPRECIATE IT.WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM 9, DISCUSSION REGARDING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL ALLOTMENT REPORT.
DR. CUNNINGHAM? THANK YOU. AS MY FOLKS COMING UP TO THE PODIUM, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE DO REGULARLY WHEN WE ADOPT INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS THROUGH THE STATE PROCESS.
THIS IS A PRECURSOR TO US REQUESTING ANY FUNDS TO PURCHASE MATERIALS.
WE HAVE A VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT PROCESS AND I'VE ASKED MS. MELISSA ELLIS, OUR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF EARLY CHILDHOOD INSTRUCTION, AND MR. JAMES AYERS, OUR--.
HE'S OUR COORDINATOR OF HEALTH, P.E.
WALDRIP, BOARD, THANK YOU FOR HAVING US TONIGHT.
TONIGHT, JAMES AND I BOTH HAVE OUR P.E.
PROCLAMATION 2022 CALLED FOR US TO LOOK AT P.E.
AND HEALTH CURRICULUM ADOPTIONS FOR OUR DISTRICT AND CONSIDER THE OFFERINGS OUT THERE.
[01:25:03]
THIS PROVIDES JUST A BRIEF TIMELINE THAT WE FOLLOW.WE SCHEDULE AND WORK WITH REGION 10 TO HEAR FROM ALL THE VENDORS AND THE PRODUCTS AND CURRICULUM THAT THEY'RE PROVIDING.
AND WE WORK WITH THE COMMITTEE AND USING RUBRICS TO REALLY EVALUATE AND IDENTIFY WHICH CURRICULUMS WILL BEST MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR KIDDOS HERE IN FRISCO.
AND THEN ONCE WE NARROW DOWN TO WHAT WE THINK ARE OUR BEST SELECTIONS, THEN WE WORK TO GET COST INFORMATION, CONTRACT DETAILS WORKED OUT, AND THEN WE CAN PRESENT THAT TO YOU.
AFTER TONIGHT, WE WILL BE POSTING OUR TWO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SO THAT WE CAN GET PARENT FEEDBACK FOR PARENTS WHO WOULD LIKE TO HOP ONLINE AND TAKE A DEEPER LOOK AT THOSE BEFORE WE MAKE ANY PURCHASES.
SO OFFICIALLY OUR ELEMENTARY RECOMMENDATION FOR A NEW HEALTH AND P.E.
CURRICULUM WOULD BE THE QUAVER HEALTH AND P.E.
AND THEN FOR SECONDARY, WE'RE RECOMMENDING THE GOODHEART-WILCOX TEXAS HEALTH SKILLS FOR HIGH SCHOOL. WHAT WE DO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT FOR SECONDARY THIS HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM ACTUALLY COVERS BOTH MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL.
SO THIS IS OUR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY FORMAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR P.E.
AND HEALTH CURRICULUM ADOPTIONS MOVING FORWARD.
SHORT AND SWEET. [LAUGHTER] WE CAN TALK ABOUT OTHER THINGS IF YOU WANT.
ANY QUESTION? BOARD, ANY QUESTIONS? [INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU. WE APPRECIATE IT.
YOU'RE WELCOME. MOVE ON TO ITEM 10, DISCUSSION REGARDING ONGOING STRATEGIC PLANNING.
[10. Discussion regarding ongoing strategic planning]
MRS. SMITH? GOOD EVENING. I'M SUPER EXCITED TO BE HERE TALKING TO YOU ABOUT SOMETHING THAT'S NOT THE BUDGET. SO THIS IS REALLY FUN.WE'VE BEEN TALKING FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW ABOUT OUR STRATEGIC CHANGE PROCESS THAT WE'VE BEEN ADOPTING. WE SPENT SOME TIME AT YOUR BUDGET WORKSHOP TALKING ABOUT KIND OF THE NEXT PHASE OF IT AND HOW WE START WORKING TO ALIGN ALL OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON WITH OUR BUDGET AND OUR FINANCING PLAN AND OUR JUST ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY OVERALL.
AND SO THIS FELT LIKE A REALLY GOOD TIME TO GIVE YOU GUYS AN UPDATE IN A PUBLIC MEETING SO THAT EVERYBODY CAN KIND OF HEAR WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON AND WHAT WE HAVE GOING AND WHAT OUR PLANS ARE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS AS WE CONTINUE TO BUILD THIS OUT.
WE HAVE NAMED THIS, AFTER MUCH THOUGHT, DYNAMIC ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY BECAUSE IT IS NOT A STATIC, STRATEGIC PLAN.
WE GROW REALLY FAST, WE INNOVATE A LOT, AND A STRATEGIC PLAN THAT YOU PUT DOWN ON PAPER AND TRY TO MAKE IT LAST FIVE YEARS DOESN'T REALLY WORK IN FRISCO ISD WHEN WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO GROW AND INNOVATE AND AND CHANGE THE WAY THAT WE DO THINGS.
SO THIS IS NOT A STRATEGIC PLAN.
IT'S A STRATEGIC CHANGE PROCESS.
IT IS THE CONTINUOUS EVALUATION AND ALIGNMENT OF OUR RESOURCES AND OUR INITIATIVES WITH OUR PURPOSE. AND I PUT THIS QUOTE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PAGE.
THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT'S UNIQUE TO A SCHOOL DISTRICT ENVIRONMENT.
SO THERE'S THIS CONCEPT OF A LEARNING ORGANIZATION, WHICH DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU'RE A SCHOOL DISTRICT, IT MEANS THAT YOU'RE AN ORGANIZATION THAT CREATES, ACQUIRES AND TRANSFERS KNOWLEDGE AND MODIFIES YOUR BEHAVIOR TO REFLECT NEW KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHTS.
AND THAT QUOTE IS OUT OF AN ARTICLE IN THE HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW THAT TALKS ABOUT HOW TO BE A LEARNING ORGANIZATION, HOW TO GO THROUGH STRATEGIC CHANGE SO THIS IS NOT UNIQUE TO US. IT'S IMPORTANT TO US TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ENSURE THAT OUR LONG TERM GOALS AND OUR INNOVATIONS AND OUR IMPROVEMENT EFFORTS ARE ALIGNED WITH EVERYONE'S EXPECTATIONS THE COMMUNITY'S EXPECTATIONS, OUR STAFF'S EXPECTATIONS, THE BOARD'S EXPECTATIONS, ETC..
AND FORMALIZING THIS STRATEGIC CHANGE PROCESS ALLOWS US TO DO THAT.
IT ALLOWS US TO ENGAGE AND RECEIVE FEEDBACK FROM A VARIETY OF STAKEHOLDERS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CHANGE PROCESS, AND IT ALLOWS US TO FORMALIZE THE EVALUATION OF OUR CAPACITY TO MOVE FORWARD WITH NEW INITIATIVES.
AND WHEN I TALK ABOUT CAPACITY, I'M TALKING ABOUT ALL THE RESOURCES THAT IT TAKES TO PUT SOMETHING INTO PLACE TIME, ENERGY, MONEY, ALL OF THOSE THINGS.
SO THAT'S WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT.
LIKE I SAID, WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS.
WE'VE HAD SOME CHALLENGES RECENTLY, LATELY, OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS THAT WE'VE REALLY BEEN WORKING TO INNOVATE AND ADDRESS.
AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GOOD TO JUST KIND OF GO BACK AND REMIND EVERYBODY WHAT THOSE
[01:30:03]
CHALLENGES HAVE BEEN AND WHAT THE WORK WE'VE DONE OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS TO ADDRESS THOSE CHALLENGES BEFORE I TALK ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING MOVING FORWARD.STAFF CAPACITY IS NUMBER ONE, RIGHT? WE ARE ACUTELY AWARE THAT EVERY PERSON HAS A CAPACITY LIMIT AND THAT LIMIT MIGHT LOOK A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT IN A POST-COVID WORLD.
SO OUR STAFF CAPACITY IS THE NUMBER ONE THING THAT WE'RE CONCERNED ABOUT.
JUST THE ABILITY TO ADDRESS STUDENT NEEDS, BOTH ONGOING AND COVID RELATED.
STAFF'S PERSONAL FINANCIAL NEEDS, BOTH ONGOING AND COVID RELATED.
AND THEN JUST THE TIME, ENERGY AND EFFORT THAT IT TAKES TO IMPLEMENT ANY NEW INITIATIVES OR CHANGES THAT HAPPEN.
AS A DISTRICT, FROM A DISTRICT LENS, THE ABILITY TO PROVIDE THE RESOURCES TO ADDRESS ALL OF THOSE STAFF NEEDS THAT ARE LISTED THERE, IS FIRST AND FOREMOST WHEN IT COMES TO ORGANIZATIONAL PLANNING, BUDGET PLANNING, ALL OF THOSE THINGS, RIGHT? SO WE HAVE TO TAKE THOSE NEEDS AND ADDRESS THEM ON A BROAD SCALE.
SO THAT'S A CHALLENGE IN A DISTRICT OUR SIZE WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT OVER 8000 EMPLOYEES AND 72 CAMPUSES, 73 CAMPUSES, I ALWAYS LOSE COUNT.
NOT TO MENTION WE'RE PLANNING TO OPEN FOUR MORE CAMPUSES IN THE NEXT TWO YEARS.
AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE HAVEN'T REALLY BEEN DEALING WITH THE PAST FEW YEARS.
WE WERE OPENING LOTS OF CAMPUSES EVERY YEAR AND THEN WE SLOWED DOWN A LITTLE BIT AND NOW WE'RE ABOUT TO PICK BACK UP.
AND THOSE KINDS OF CONSIDERATIONS HAVE TO WORK THEMSELVES BACK INTO OUR OPERATIONAL PLAN.
AND THEN THE ABILITY TO ADDRESS INFLATION, WHICH THIS YEAR HAS BEEN HIGHER THAN IT'S BEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME, WHICH LEADS ME INTO THE LEGISLATIVE IMPACT THAT WE HAVE.
SO I'LL START AT THE BOTTOM, THE FUNDING FORMULA CHALLENGES.
HB 3 WAS A LANDMARK BILL WHEN IT CAME TO SCHOOL FINANCE, BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME SHORTCOMINGS IN IT, AND INFLATION IS ONE OF THEM.
THE FUNDING FORMULA FAILS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE RISING COST OF ANYTHING.
AND WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT STAFF NEEDS AND THE NEED TO MAINTAIN A COMPENSATION THAT ALLOWS THEM TO CONTINUE TO LIVE AND HAVE A COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENTS, THOSE TYPES OF THINGS AREN'T CONSIDERED IN THE FUNDING FORMULA.
SO THAT IS A CHALLENGE THAT WE HAVE BEEN FACING, THAT WE ARE CURRENTLY FACING.
JUMPING BACK UP TO THE FIRST BULLET, WE'VE GOT MANDATES THAT COME OUT OF THE LEGISLATURE, AND WHENEVER I TALK ABOUT SCHOOL FINANCE, EVEN THOUGH THIS ISN'T A FINANCE PRESENTATION, WE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT HOW THINGS CHANGE EVERY TWO YEARS.
AND IT'S DIFFICULT TO PLAN LONG TERM BECAUSE WE ARE AT THE MERCY OF THE LEGISLATURE.
SO MANDATES LIKE HB 4545 READING ACADEMIES, THOSE KINDS OF THINGS, THEY IMPACT THE CAPACITY BOTH FROM A STAFF PERSPECTIVE AND A DISTRICT PERSPECTIVE, TO DO THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO DO FROM A STRATEGIC STANDPOINT.
WE ALSO HAVE A BIG ONE THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT A LITTLE BIT, BUT PROBABLY NOT A TON PUBLICLY IS HEALTH INSURANCE.
SO THAT SPEAKS DIRECTLY TO THE FINANCIAL NEEDS OF OUR STAFF, RIGHT? BECAUSE HEALTH INSURANCE IS A RISING COST.
IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS FROM A DISTRICT STANDPOINT, AND IT'S A PIECE OF OUR COMPENSATION PLAN THAT WE LOOK AT ANNUALLY.
BUT, YOU KNOW, THE LEGISLATURE, WHEN THEY MET LAST, BASICALLY TOOK AWAY OUR ABILITY TO CONTINUE TO OFFER COMPETING HEALTH PLANS TO TRS-ACTIVECARE, WHICH MEANS THAT AMONG ALL THE OTHER CHALLENGES AND ALL OF THE OTHER CAPACITY NEEDS THAT WE HAVE, WE'RE NOW HAVING TO LOOK AT MOVING ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES BACK INTO TRS-ACTIVECARE NEXT YEAR.
SO THOSE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO CONSIDER WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD AND INNOVATE, AND DO THINGS.
WE'VE GOT THESE OTHER THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO CONSIDER.
SO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS IN TERMS OF STUDENT NEEDS, BOTH FROM A COVID STANDPOINT AND A NON-COVID STANDPOINT, WE'VE REALLY BEEN FOCUSING HEAVILY ON THINGS LIKE RESTORATIVE PRACTICES, INQUIRY BASED LEARNING, STANDARDS BASED GRADING. WE ARE WORKING ON OPENING UP FISD PLUS NEXT YEAR.
SO WE'VE BEEN DOING A LOT OF INNOVATIVE THINGS TO SERVE OUR STUDENTS.
WE'VE ALSO DONE A LOT OF INNOVATIVE THINGS TO HELP SERVE OUR STAFF, RIGHT? WE'VE GIVEN OUT TWO CARES INCENTIVES.
WE HAVE DONE RETENTION INCENTIVES.
WE LOOKED AT GIVING STAFF BACK SOME OF THEIR TIME BY GIVING THEM AN ADDITIONAL DAY OFF THIS YEAR. FROM A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STANDPOINT, OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN REALLY LOOKING AT THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE ADDRESSING STAFF CAPACITY AND BEING REALLY THOUGHTFUL IN THE TYPES OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WE'RE PROVIDING.
[01:35:02]
WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON OUR PLAN TO IMPLEMENT THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT.WE HAVE BEEN WORKING THROUGH THE CREATION OF EMPLOYEE HEALTH CLINIC TO ADDRESS SOME OF THE HEALTH CARE ISSUES.
WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON DEVELOPING A STAFF WELLNESS PROGRAM.
SO ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE LOOKING AT WAYS TO SERVE OUR STAFF, CREATE SOME CAPACITY FOR THEM IN ANY TYPE OF AREA, AND ALL OF THAT WE'RE DOING ON A FIXED INCOME AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT, WHICH EVEN THOUGH THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE BUDGET, IS ONE OF THE REASONS THAT THIS STRATEGIC CHANGE PROCESS IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE HAVE TO LOOK AT CONTINUING TO EVALUATE WHAT WE'RE DOING, HOW WE'RE DOING IT, THE TYPES OF RESOURCES THAT WE'RE PUTTING INTO IT SO THAT WE CAN MOVE FORWARD ON A FIXED INCOME.
SO ALL THAT BEING SAID, SOME OF THE CURRENT WORK THAT WE'RE DOING THROUGH THE STRATEGIC CHANGE PROCESS, THE FIRST THING WE'RE DOING IS DOCUMENTING ALL OF OUR EXISTING INITIATIVES, AND THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT I PUT ON THE PREVIOUS SLIDE.
WORKING ON FORMALIZING THE COMMUNICATION OF THE ALIGNMENT OF ALL OF OUR SYSTEMS WITH THOSE PRIORITIES, DEFINING THE OUTCOMES THAT WE EXPECT FROM EACH OF THOSE INITIATIVES, BEING ABLE TO CALCULATE THE RETURN ON INVESTMENT THAT WE'RE GETTING FROM EACH OF THOSE INITIATIVES, CLEARLY OUTLINING ONGOING IMPLEMENTATION EFFORTS AND THE NECESSARY RESOURCES TO KEEP THOSE GOING.
AND I'M NOT SAYING THAT WE HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE THAT, IT JUST HAS BEEN IN A LESS FORMAL PROCESS. SO THAT'S SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE WORKING ON.
WE'RE ALSO BEGINNING A STRATEGIC ABANDONMENT INITIATIVE, WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY JUST TAKING STOCK OF ALL OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING, EVALUATING, BENCHMARKING, DOING SOME EFFICIENCY STUDIES.
WE'RE WORKING ON STREAMLINING PROCESSES AND REQUIRED RESOURCES THAT ARE USED BY CAMPUS STAFF SO THAT WE CAN IDENTIFY EFFICIENCIES WHERE POSSIBLE, CREATE SOME CAPACITY IN BOTH OUR STAFF AND AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL TO MOVE FORWARD AND REINVEST THOSE RESOURCES IN EITHER EXISTING OR NEW INITIATIVES.
SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO US TO KIND OF HIT THE PAUSE BUTTON A LITTLE BIT, MAKE SURE WE TAKE STOCK OF WHERE WE ARE AND MAKE SURE THAT WE CREATE AS MUCH CAPACITY FOR OUR PEOPLE AS WE POSSIBLY CAN. WE'RE DOING THAT BY USING THIS, WHAT WE CALL THE HIERARCHY OF PURPOSE.
THIS IS A METHOD TO ALIGN ALL OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING, ALL OF OUR INITIATIVES WITH OUR PRIORITIES AND OUR MISSION TO KNOW EVERY STUDENT BY NAME AND NEED.
AND YOU GUYS HAVE SEEN THIS A COUPLE OF TIMES, SO I WON'T GO BACK THROUGH IT, BUT IT ESSENTIALLY ENSURES THAT ALL OF OUR INITIATIVES AND ALL OF THE RESOURCES THAT IT TAKES TO PUT THOSE INITIATIVES IN PLACE ARE DIRECTLY ALIGNED WITH OUR FUTURE READY FRAMEWORK, WITH OUR MISSION TO KNOW EVERY STUDENT BY NAME AND NEED, AND THAT WE HAVE EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS FOR EACH OF THOSE. WE HAVE A RETURN ON INVESTMENT THAT WE CAN CLEARLY COMMUNICATE WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS.
SO OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT TWO YEARS, WE EXPECT TO HAVE THIS MORE FORMALIZED IN THE FORM OF HOPEFULLY AN ANNUAL REPORT, THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE BOTH ELECTRONICALLY AND PAPER, THAT WOULD TAKE THE PLACE OF A HANDFUL OF THINGS OUR COMMUNITY BASED ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM REPORT, OUR ANNUAL BUDGET, OUR WHAT I'M CALLING THE STRATEGIC ROADMAP, BECAUSE IT'S NOT A STRATEGIC PLAN IN THE NORMAL SENSE.
. IT WOULD BE A ONE YEAR, THIS IS WHAT WE'RE DOING AND WORKING ON AND AND THE CHANGES THAT WE'RE UNDERGOING AND HOW WE'RE EVALUATING THOSE THINGS, RIGHT? AND ALSO POTENTIALLY OUR DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN.
SO LOTS OF INFORMATION WRAPPED INTO ONE NICE ALIGNED PACKAGE.
FORMALIZING THIS PROCESS ALSO ALLOWS US TO HAVE REGULAR ONGOING COMMUNICATION WITH STAKEHOLDERS AT ALL LEVELS.
SO LOTS OF VOICE, LOTS OF STAKEHOLDER VOICE IN THE WHOLE PROCESS.
THAT'S ALL I HAVE. DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? BOARD, ANY QUESTIONS? NO QUESTION. JUST APPRECIATE THIS PRESENTATION IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE WORKSHOP THAT WE HAD RECENTLY. I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE PROGRESS THAT WE'VE MADE.
YOU KNOW, WE ALL STARTED ON THE JOURNEY PRE-COVID, AND SO THAT SLOWED IT DOWN A LITTLE BIT. BUT I THINK WE'VE GOT MOMENTUM GOING AGAIN AND LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE WHAT COMES OUT OF THIS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS.
THANK YOU [INAUDIBLE]. BOARD, WE'RE GOING TO GO A LITTLE BIT OUT OF ORDER, IF THAT'S OKAY WITH YOU. WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO ITEM 13.B AS IN BOY, WHICH IS A TECHNOLOGY UPDATE ON OUR
[13.B. Technology Update]
LIBRARY WEBSITE.[01:40:02]
SO IF WE CAN GO AHEAD, AND MS. FELCH, IF YOU WOULD INTRODUCE [INAUDIBLE], THAT WOULD BE GREAT.THIS IS MISS AMANDA BUTLER, AND SHE IS OUR COORDINATOR OF LIBRARY AND MEDIA SERVICES, AND SHE HAS WORKED WITH COMMUNICATIONS AND DONE SOME REALLY COOL UPDATES TO OUR WEBSITE.
SO WE THOUGHT IT'D BE GREAT FOR HER TO COME AND SHARE THOSE WITH YOU.
HI Y'ALL. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME THIS EVENING, AND THANK YOU, MS. FOUCHE. WE ARE GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME AND JUST QUICKLY WALK THROUGH THE LIBRARY SERVICES WEBSITE. WE REALLY WANTED TO KIND OF REVAMP THAT AND GIVE IT A LITTLE BIT MORE TRANSPARENCY BY KIND OF EMPOWERING OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO HAVE ALL THE PARTS GIVEN OUR INVOLVED COMMUNITY.
SO THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME, AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO GET RIGHT INTO IT.
SO YOU CAN GO T,O AND THOSE OF US THAT ARE WATCHING FROM HOME, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT YOU ALL CAN DO. YOU WILL GO TO FRISCOISD.ORG.
YOU WILL SELECT DEPARTMENTS AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE.
AND THEN IT'S GOING TO TAKE YOU TO OUR DEPARTMENTS AND SERVICES PAGE.
THIS IS ALPHABETIZED FOR YOUR EASE, IF YOU WILL SCROLL DOWN TO THE L'S AND SELECT LIBRARY AND MEDIA SERVICES.
THREE CLICKS. AND IT'S A GOLD MINE OF INFORMATION FOR YOU.
SO SOME THINGS THAT EXISTED ALREADY WERE OUR CAMPUS LIBRARIES.
YOU CAN SELECT THAT TAB AND IT WILL TAKE YOU TO EVERY SINGLE LIBRARY THAT IS IN OUR DISTRICT, 72 STRONG.
YOU CAN ALSO ACCESS YOUR STUDENTS CATALOG AND SEE ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO YOUR STUDENT FROM THEIR PAC, WHICH IS WHAT WE CALL OUR PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOG. YOU CAN ALSO SEE E-BOOKS AND AUDIOBOOKS AS WELL AS STUDENT ONLINE RESOURCES LIKE MACKINVIA AND OTHER INTERESTING THINGS, DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOL, DIFFERENT MIDDLE SCHOOL RESOURCES. AND THEN SOMETHING THAT'S NEW THAT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IS THIS SELECTION OF LIBRARY MATERIALS TAB.
SO IF YOU'LL SELECT THAT, YOU CAN SEE SOMETHING THAT WAS AT ONE POINT INTERNAL.
SO THE LIBRARY DOESN'T JUST GET TO KIND OF CHOOSE WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO CHOOSE.
THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A VERY RIGOROUS SET OF GUIDELINES THAT THEY HAVE TO GO BY IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO PURCHASE LIBRARY MATERIAL, AND SO THE PROCESS AND THE DIFFERENT EXPECTATIONS THAT WE ALL HAVE FOR THEM AS A DISTRICT ARE LOCATED RIGHT HERE IN THIS SELECTION OF LIBRARY MATERIALS.
THE PURPOSE OF HAVING A GUIDELINE, THE WHOLE SELECTION PROCESS.
ALL OF OUR, SORT OF OUR POLICIES, SO TO SPEAK, PUBLISHER'S NEEDS, ALL THESE EXPECTATIONS ARE LOCATED IN THEIR.
ANOTHER TAB THAT WE DROPPED IN HERE THAT WE ARE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.
WE'RE JUST EXCITED ABOUT EVERYTHING IN THE LIBRARY WORLD.
SO LIBRARY MATERIALS FAQ, ALL THESE--.
THIS IS GOING TO GIVE YOU ALL SORTS OF REALLY INTERESTING INFORMATION LIKE HOW CAN I FIND A JUST RIGHT BOOK FOR MY CHILD? SOMETHING THAT'S A COMMON QUESTION IS WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCE AND A LIBRARY BOOK? AREN'T THOSE THE SAME THING? THEY'RE NOT, ACTUALLY.
AND WE CAN ANSWER THAT QUESTION FOR YOU HERE.
ALSO, LIKE HOW DO LIBRARIES--? LIKE WHAT ARE--? DID YOU KNOW THAT LIBRARIANS HAVE RULES? LOOK RIGHT HERE, STATE LIBRARY STANDARDS AND THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION.
SO ALL THAT INFORMATION IS LOCATED HERE IN FAQS, AND THESE WERE GLEANED FROM OUR COMMUNITY. THESE AREN'T JUST THINGS THAT WE THOUGHT OF IN THE NIGHTTIME FOR THE MOST PART. MOST OF THESE ARE FROM OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS ASKING THESE QUESTIONS FROM US.
WE LOVE TO ABSORB OUR COMMUNITY'S FEEDBACK AND PUT THOSE INTO PRACTICE.
OUR LAST NEW SORT OF TAB IS RECONSIDERATION INFORMATION.
SO OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A REALLY IMPORTANT TOPIC FOR A LOT OF US IN LIBRARY SERVICES AND IN OUR COMMUNITY. AND OUT OF RESPECT FOR THAT PROCESS, AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF THAT WAS MAKING SURE THAT ALL OF THE INFORMATION FOR OUR RECONSIDERATION PROCESS HERE IN FRISCO ISD IS MADE READILY AVAILABLE TO ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
SO THESE ARE SOME COMMON QUESTIONS THAT I HAVE RECEIVED FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS, AS WELL AS COMPLAINANTS WHO HAVE GONE AHEAD AND WALKED THROUGH THE PROCESS OF RECONSIDERING.
AND THEN LASTLY ON THAT, COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS, RESOURCES, YOU CAN SELECT THAT LINK AND IT WILL TAKE YOU DIRECTLY TO THE PORTAL TO BE ABLE TO FILE A GRIEVANCE--.
OR A I'M SORRY, NOT A GRIEVANCE, BUT A RECONSIDERATION FORM.
LIKE FASTER THAN YOU CAN BLINK.
MAYBE NOT THAT FAST, BUT PRETTY CLOSE.
SO WE HAVE UPDATED THE LIBRARY WEBSITE FOR YOUR EASE AND THEN I WANT TO WALK BACK UP REALLY QUICKLY. KEEP TRYING TO DRIVE THIS THING WITH MY CELL PHONE AND THAT WON'T WORK.
THE SELECTION OF LIBRARY MATERIALS.
I WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK TO THAT REALLY QUICKLY AND TELL YOU ALL, EVERY SINGLE YEAR WE TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE YEAR'S GROWTH.
SO WHAT WORKED FOR US A YEAR AGO, TWO YEARS AGO, THREE YEARS AGO, IS NOT GOING TO WORK FOR US THIS YEAR OR NEXT YEAR.
[01:45:02]
SO WE TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE EXPECTATION FROM THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION, THE EXPECTATION FROM THE TEXAS LIBRARY ASSOCIATION.WE TAKE INTO EVERYTHING THAT WE SHOULD AS WELL AS OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND THEIR FEEDBACK. SO THIS YEAR WE ARE ALREADY WORKING ON SOME UPDATES IN A WAY TO KIND OF EVOLVE OUR COLLECTION GUIDELINES.
SO WE WILL BE TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION ALL OF THE COMMUNITY'S FEEDBACK AND THEN GOING AHEAD AND SHARING THAT WITH OUR--.
WHAT IS IT CALLED, MS. FOUCHE? IT'S ESCAPING ME. IT'S THE DISTRICT ADVISORY COUNCIL.
IT'S JUST A COOL WAY TO TAKE SOMETHING NEW OR ANY KIND OF UPDATE TO EXISTING GUIDELINES TO THEM AND GET FEEDBACK FROM A LOT OF DIFFERENT GROUPS ALL AT ONE TIME.
YEAH, WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT, AND THEN IT IS A GUIDELINE.
IT IS NOT A POLICY, WHICH MEANS TECHNICALLY YOU ALL DON'T HAVE TO VOTE ON THAT.
BUT WE WOULD REALLY LIKE YOUR FEEDBACK.
SO AFTER THE DISTRICT ADVISORY COUNCIL REVIEWS, THAT GIVES US FEEDBACK.
WE WILL BRING IT BACK TO YOU FOR FURTHER FEEDBACK AND THEN WE WILL GO AHEAD AND MARRY THAT. SO WE ARE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT ALL THE CHANGES IN FRISCO ISD LIBRARIES.
WE ARE WORKING SO, SO HARD TO MAKE THOSE CHANGES STICK AND TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
[APPLAUSE] DO YOU ALL HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OF AMANDA? I KNOW. LET'S ALL CLAP FOR [APPLAUSE].
I KNOW. SHE'S DONE SUCH A GREAT JOB ON THIS SITE.
IT'S AWESOME. I WILL GIVE HER KUDOS TOO BEFORE YOU RUN OFF.
I JUST. WE'VE REALLY STRUGGLED THIS YEAR, YOU KNOW, WITH SOME OF OUR PARENT GROUPS.
NOT ALL, BUT SOME ARE JUST INSTEAD OF KICKING OFF THAT RECONSIDERATION PROCESS WITH US, IT'S IT'S HAPPENING IN OTHER PLACES WITH RANDOM PEOPLE AND THINGS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING ABLE TO ACTUALLY GET INTO THE RECONSIDERATION CONSIDERATION PROCESS AND MOVE THROUGH A CHALLENGE, WHICH IS WHAT WE NEED.
SO OUR HOPE IS THAT THIS IS THIS IS GOING TO HELP.
LIKE YOU DON'T HAVE TO EMAIL A PRINCIPAL, YOU DON'T HAVE TO EMAIL A LIBRARIAN, YOU DON'T HAVE TO EMAIL A TEACHER.
JUST TRIP ON OVER HERE AND DO THE FORM AND WE'LL GET AFTER IT.
SWEET AMANDA WILL GET START GETTING THE COMMITTEE TOGETHER AND DO ALL THE THINGS IN THE PROCESS. I MEAN, SHE'S DONE A GREAT JOB.
AMANDA, CAN WE TALK NUMBERS? YES. SINCE YOU'RE HERE, SINCE WE HAVE YOU, CAN WE TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT NUMBER, THE NUMBER OF HARDCOPY BOOKS THAT WE HAVE IN OUR DISTRICT, THE NUMBER OF BOOKS THAT WE HAVE PURCHASED SINCE AUGUST, THE NUMBER OF BOOKS THAT ARE ON OUR RECONSIDERATION LIST AND HOW MANY BOOKS WE'VE REMOVED FROM OUR SHELVES? JUST I THINK THAT DATA IS IMPORTANT TO SHARE WITH THE COMMUNITY.
AND I KNOW THAT YOU ALL ARE LIVING IN THAT DATA EVERY DAY RIGHT NOW.
AND SO IF YOU HAVE THAT READILY AVAILABLE, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.
I DO. SO IN FRISCO ISD WE HAVE ABOUT A LITTLE OVER A MILLION BOOKS, GIVE OR TAKE A FEW.
I MEAN, YOU CAN SEE IT BROKEN DOWN BY CAMPUS LEVEL.
AND THEN TO ANSWER YOUR SECOND QUESTION SO FAR THIS YEAR.
NOW OUR LAST BIG PURCHASE PUSH FOR THE LIBRARIANS WAS LIKE, COME IN AND RIGHT BEFORE OUR DEADLINE. AND SO A BIG CHUNK OF THOSE PURCHASE BOOKS AREN'T INCLUDED IN THAT.
SO THAT WILL PROBABLY WILL PROBABLY GROW CLOSE TO FIVE OR 6000 MORE TITLES.
BUT RIGHT NOW WE'RE SITTING AT A LITTLE OVER 33,000 BOOKS PURCHASED FOR OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT. AND YOU CAN SEE THAT BROKEN DOWN ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE THERE WITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS BEING THE LEAD THERE.
BUT OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE MORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAMPUSES.
AND SO THE TOTAL BOOKS PURCHASED OR I'M SORRY, NOT BOOKS PURCHASED, BUT THE TOTAL BOOKS IN FISD LIBRARIES, WE HAVE A LITTLE OVER A MILLION BOOKS WE HAVE REMOVED THROUGH A RECONSIDERATION PROCESS AND THROUGH COMMITTEE CONSENSUS, TWO.
AND AT LAST COUNT WE WERE AT WAS IT ELEVEN THAT WE'VE RECONSIDERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR? THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION. SO WE HAVE BOTH AN INFORMAL AND A FORMAL PROCESS, AND SO INFORMAL LOOKS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN FORMAL.
SO WHEN A COMMUNITY MEMBER OR A CHILD'S PARENT OR SOMEBODY WHO IS INVOLVED IN OUR DISTRICT IN SOME WAY HAS WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT A LIBRARY RESOURCE.
THEY WILL GO TO THE LIBRARIAN FIRST AND THEN THROUGH THE CONVERSATION WITH THE LIBRARIAN, IF IT NEEDS TO EVOLVE TO THE PRINCIPAL, THEN IT WILL GO TO THE PRINCIPAL AND THEN THE LIBRARIAN AND THE PRINCIPAL WILL THEN SEND THAT PERSON TO THE RECONSIDERATION FORM.
AND THEN AT THAT POINT, I'M SUPPORTING THE LIBRARIAN AND WE'RE SUPPORTING THE PRINCIPAL THROUGH THOSE PROCESSES. AND THAT'S MORE INFORMAL WHEN THE PARENT OR THE COMPLAINANT SUBMITS THAT FORMAL COMPLAINT FORM THAN IT TRANSITIONS FROM BEING AN INFORMAL PROCESS TO A FORMAL PROCESS.
SO FORMALLY WE HAVE HAD FOUR, FOUR MAKE IT TO THAT FORM PROCESS.
[01:50:03]
INFORMALLY, WE'VE HAD ABOUT MIGHT BE THIRTEEN OR FIFTEEN.OUR LIBRARIANS ARE OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE.
THEY ARE. Y'ALL LET CREAM OF THE CROP.
AND I KNOW I SPEAK FOR ALL 72 OF THEM WHEN I TELL YOU THAT YOUR SUPPORT THOUGH I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CORNER EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU TONIGHT PROBABLY.
YYOUR SUPPORT IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER MAKES US PROUD TO WORK HERE IN FRISCO ISD, EVEN WHEN TIMES ARE A LITTLE A LITTLE UNUSUAL.
WE ARE VERY, VERY GRATEFUL FOR FRISCO ISD FOR UIL ISD DR.
THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU BECAUSE.
SORRY. I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU BECAUSE IN THAT INFORMAL PROCESS, I KNOW THAT WE'VE SEEN A COUPLE OF THINGS COME ACROSS AND YOU GUYS TOOK IMMEDIATE ACTION AND DID THE RIGHT THING. AND I TRUST THAT ANY TIME THAT YOU SEE SOMETHING, YOU DO TAKE THAT IMMEDIATE ACTION. AND SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S BEEN TOUGH AND I KNOW THAT A LOT OF THINGS HAVE BEEN SAID.
AND WHEN IT GOES TO SOCIAL MEDIA INSTEAD OF TO YOU, IT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN IT DOESN'T. YES, IT DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
BUT WHENEVER IT COMES DIRECTLY TO ONE OF US OR TO THE SCHOOL AND IT GETS TAKEN CARE OF, IT'S APPRECIATED. SO THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU'VE DONE.
[APPLAUSE] YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, PROBLEMS ARE NOT SOLVED ON FACEBOOK.
SO FIRST TIME THAT'S HAPPENED A LONG TIME.
OKAY. SO WE WILL NOW MOVE ON TO ITEM 11 COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD, INCLUDING
[11. Communication to and from the Board including public comments]
PUBLIC COMMENT. MR. RUDY ANY COMMUNICATIONS TO THE BOARD? OKAY. WE WILL MOVE ON TO PUBLIC COMMENT MR. CLASSE. THE BOARD WELCOMES COMMENTS REGARDING ACTION ITEMS FROM CITIZENS WHO HAVE COMPLETED PUBLIC COMMENT CARDS THIS EVENING, WHICH ARE ACCEPTED UNTIL 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF THE OPEN MEETING AND ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE TO OTHER SPEAKERS.PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE INFORMATION SHARED IN PUBLIC COMMENT IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF THE INFORMATION SHARED BY THE PRESENTER AND SOLELY PROVIDES THE OPINION OF THE INDIVIDUAL SPEAKER, NOT THE DISTRICT.
DURING THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD, COMMENTS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ONLY NOT OTHER ATTENDEES AND ONLY MADE ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED UPON TO SPEAK TO ENSURE THAT ALL SPEAKERS ARE TREATED EQUALLY AND HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME, THE PODIUM MICROPHONE WILL BE TURNED OFF AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE TIME FOR EVERY SPEAKER.
EACH SPEAKER SHALL HAVE 2 MINUTES TO ADDRESS THE BOARD REGARDING ACTION ITEMS ON THE AGENDA FOR TONIGHT'S MEETING.
SPEAKERS WILL BE CALLED IN THE ORDER IN WHICH EACH INDIVIDUAL SIGNED UP TO SPEAK.
PLEASE KEEP ALL PUBLIC COMMENTS RELATED TO SCHOOL DISTRICT GOVERNANCE AND OPERATIONS.
IF YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC CONCERN RELATED TO AN EMPLOYEE OF THE DISTRICT OR A SPECIFIC STUDENT ISSUE, YOU SHOULD UTILIZE THE DISTRICT'S GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES PROVIDED IN BOARD POLICIES DGBA LOCAL, F & G LOCAL AND GF LOCAL.
EACH GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE ALLOWS FOR AN INDIVIDUAL TO REDRESS GRIEVANCES WITH THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. ADDITIONALLY, IF THERE ARE FIVE OR MORE INDIVIDUALS THAT WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK ON THE SAME TOPIC, I DON'T THINK WE HAVE THAT SITUATION TONIGHT.
YOU MAY CHOOSE TO APPOINT AN INDIVIDUAL TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP AND IF YOU WISH TO PROVIDE A PUBLIC COMMENT ON AN ITEM OTHER THAN THE ACTION ITEMS ON TONIGHT'S AGENDA, PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR NEXT COMMUNITY INPUT NIGHT, WHICH WILL BE HELD ON APRIL 27TH.
THANK YOU. OUR FIRST SPEAKER IS STEPHANIE [INAUDIBLE], FOLLOWED BY ALISON [INAUDIBLE].
GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS STEPHANIE [INAUDIBLE].
I'M A CONCERNED RESIDENT OF FRISCO AND A TAXPAYER.
I'M CONCERNED ABOUT MUCH THAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY AND FISD ONE BEING DR.
WALDRIP CONSIDERATION FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR.
AS YOU'RE WELL AWARE, THE TWO OBSCENE BOOKS WHICH WERE REMOVED FROM THE FISD LIBRARIES WERE BROUGHT TO LIGHT.
HOW MANY OTHER BOOKS WILL SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS? DR. WALDRIP AND THE BOARD.
YOU NEED TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM AND BE PROACTIVE.
PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS DO NOT WANT EXCUSES OR BLAME SHIFTING.
TEACHERS HAVE EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT THE DECLINE IN ACADEMIC STANDARDS AND THE UNBALANCED PROMOTION OF FASHIONABLE YOUNG ADULT NOVELS.
WE MUST RETURN TO QUALITY EDUCATION.
DR. WALDRIP DID NOT SIGN THE PLEDGE WHICH STATE REPRESENTATIVE JARED PATTERSON CIRCULATED, ASKING ALL TEXAS SUPERINTENDENTS TO AGREE TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO GET OBSCENE BOOKS OUT OF SCHOOLS.
DR. WALDRIP WAS UNWILLING TO ADD HIS SIGNATURE.
OBSCENITY IS NOT PROTECTED FREE SPEECH, AND IT'S A CLASS A MISDEMEANOR TO MAKE HARMFUL, OBSCENE MATERIAL AVAILABLE TO A MINOR.
IN CLOSING, I'D LIKE TO READ JUST A FEW PRINCIPLES OF LEADERSHIP AS SHARED BY MAJOR DICK WINTERS 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION.
STRIVE TO BE A LEADER OF CHARACTER, COMPETENCE AND COURAGE.
NEVER LET POWER OR AUTHORITY GET TO YOUR HEAD.
[01:55:02]
TAKE A MOMENT FOR SELF REFLECTION AND ASK YOURSELF IF YOU'VE DONE YOUR BEST.HAVE YOU DONE YOUR BEST TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN OF FISD AND TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE HIGHEST QUALITY EDUCATION? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. [APPLAUSE] ALLISON [INAUDIBLE], FOLLOWED BY JOHN [INAUDIBLE]. HI, MY NAME IS ALLISON [INAUDIBLE].
I SEEK TO PROVIDE PARENT INPUT ON DR.
WALDRIP PROFESSIONAL EVALUATION AND WHETHER HE QUALIFIES FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR.
DR. WALDRIP HAS OVERSEEN A DISTRICT THAT IS DISTRIBUTING NUMEROUS PORNOGRAPHIC BOOKS TO OUR MINOR SONS AND DAUGHTERS IN OUR FRISCO, TEXAS LOWER MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS.
DOING SO IS AGAINST BOTH FEDERAL AND STATE LAW, AS WELL AS A BREACH OF OUR TRUST.
ONE PORNOGRAPHIC BOOK IN THE HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARIES IS WHAT GIRLS ARE MADE OF.
ITS CONTENT IS TOO OBSCENE TO READ ALOUD, SO I WILL SPEED READ A FEW SENTENCES FROM THE PLUGGED IN BOOK REVIEW.
I'M DOING SO TO PROVIDE OUR BEAUTIFUL FRISCO COMMUNITY WITH A REALITY CHECK AS TO THE MORAL DEGRADATION IN OUR SCHOOLS.
QUOTE THE TEXT INCLUDES DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS AND INFORMATION ABOUT GYNECOLOGICAL EXAMS, CONTRACEPTIVE CHOICES IN USE, PERIODS, STDS, FOREPLAY, INTERCOURSE, ORAL SEX, MASTURBATION, VIBRATOR USE, ORGASMS. ERECTIONS, EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION, PREGNANCY TESTS, ABORTION, POT SMOKING, WISHBONE DOLLS, WHICH ARE SEX TOYS, BODY PARTS, BODILY FUNCTIONS, A LONG LIST.
NINA ENGAGES IN INTERCOURSE AND ORAL SEX WITH SETH REGULARLY.
SHE OFTEN OFFERS ORAL SEX SO HE WON'T FEEL DEPRIVED WHEN I JUST HONESTLY, I CAN'T CONTINUE READING THIS.
NOTE THE CHARACTERS IN THIS BOOK ARE UNDERAGE MINORS AND THE BOOK DEPICTS SEX ACTS WITH JESUS CHRIST.
DR. WALDRIP AND TRUSTEE'S THERE IS SIMPLY NO EXCUSE FOR HAVING PORNOGRAPHY IN OUR FRISCO, TEXAS SCHOOLS.
WE REQUIRE THAT THE EMPLOYEES WHO APPROVED AND OVERSAW THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE PORNOGRAPHIC BOOKS BE DISCIPLINED.
NEW BOOK VENDORS BE HIRED WHO ARE EFFECTIVE, WHO EFFECTIVELY SCREEN OUT PORNOGRAPHY.
EVERY FRISCO ISD LIBRARY BE PURGED OF ALL PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL IMMEDIATELY.
ALL FRISCO LIBRARIES BE CLOSED UNTIL THIS IS DONE.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
[APPLAUSE] JOHN [INAUDIBLE], FOLLOWED BY KATHLEEN WALSH.
HELLO, EVERYBODY. MY NAME IS JOHN [INAUDIBLE] 1879 DARNELL CIRCLE.
I'M ACTUALLY HERE TO SUPPORT DR.
WALDRIP IN IN THIS ENDEAVOR FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR.
I AM A I'M A MASTER TRUSTEE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, WHICH MEANS AND THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER MASTER TRUSTEES HERE, SPENT A LONG TIME GETTING THAT CERTIFICATION.
YOU KNOW, SEVERAL YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS ON THE BOARD, WE DID A NATIONAL SEARCH FOR A NEW SUPERINTENDENT. AND WE HIRED A VERY PRESTIGIOUS SEARCH FIRM TO GO OFF AND FIND US THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES.
AND WHAT WE SAID THROUGH THE CRITERIA ONLY BRING US EXCUSE ME.
THE UNITED STATES, THE TOP FIVE.
DR. WALDRIP WAS ON THAT LIST, AND AFTER SOME DELIBERATION AND A LOT OF DISCUSSION, WE DETERMINED THAT HE WAS THE BEST GUY TO BE AT THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT AT THIS TIME.
AND I'M REALLY PROUD THAT YOU'RE HERE.
SO, YOU KNOW, WHEN THE WHEN THE STORM WINDS ARE BLOWING AND THEY'RE REALLY BLOWING NOW, THERE'S NO ONE BETTER.
I CAN'T THINK OF ANOTHER PERSON THAT I WANT SITTING IN THAT SEAT RIGHT THERE.
AND IF I HAD TO VOTE TODAY AND I DON'T KNOW WHO ALL THE OTHER SUPERINTENDENTS ARE, I'VE MET A LOT OF THEM, BUT MY VOTE IS FOR YOU.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. [APPLAUSE] KATHLEEN WALSH, FOLLOWED BY ANN MCCAUSLAND.
HI. I'M THE MOTHER OF A FRESHMAN AT LAKELAND.
I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT LAKELAND HAS AN ARRAY OF MATURE YOUNG ADULT FICTION BOOKS WITH SEXUALLY GRAPHIC MATERIAL.
THESE BOOKS ARE MARKETED TO GIRLS AND BOYS AS YOUNG AS 13.
WHEN I READ SOME OF THE EXCERPTS, I WAS SHOCKED, TRULY SHOCKED.
AND IT TAKES A LOT TO SHOCK ME.
IF THESE SCENES IN THESE BOOKS WERE IN A MOVIE, THE MOVIE WOULD BE RATED NC 17.
PROHIBITING ANYONE UNDER 17 TO VIEW THIS REALLY VULGAR STUFF.
I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THESE BOOKS FOUND THEIR WAY INTO A SCHOOL LIBRARY.
EVEN IF YOU BELIEVE THESE BOOKS OFFER SOMETHING INSIGHTFUL ON THEIR TOPICS, THEY ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR YOUNG HIGH SCHOOL CHILDREN.
REPRESENTATIVE PATTERSON SENT A LETTER TO ALL TEXAS SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS, ASKING THEM TO
[02:00:01]
PLEDGE TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO ROOT OUT AND REMOVE EXPLICIT AND OBSCENE BOOKS.YET, SUPERINTENDENT WALDRIP DECLINED TO SIGN THE PLEDGE.
SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES HAVE STATED THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD DEPENDS ON THE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM REVIEWS FROM COMPANIES INCLUDING [INAUDIBLE] REVIEW, SCHOOL LIBRARY, JOURNAL AND BOOKLIST. A SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE ALSO STATED THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD MAKES DECISIONS ON LIBRARY BOOKS BASED ON RATINGS AND REVIEWS OF PUBLISHERS.
PUBLISHERS WHOSE PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO MARKET AND INCREASE THE SALES OF THEIR BOOKS.
CLEARLY, BOOK REVIEWERS AREN'T PROPERLY VETTING THESE BOOKS AND SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIALS ENDING UP IN FRISCO ISD LIBRARIES.
WHAT DOES THE SUPERINTENDENT AND SCHOOL BOARD DOING TO MAKE SURE THAT BOOKS ARE BEING PROPERLY VETTED BY TRUSTWORTHY REVIEWERS WHO ACT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR CHILDREN? THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] ANN MCCAUSLAND, FOLLOWED BY SHERRY SALAS.
GOOD EVENING, DR. WALDRIP, PRESIDENT ARCHAMBAULT, BOARD OF TRUSTEES IN ISD.
MY NAME IS ANN MCCAUSLAND AND I RESIDE AT 2209 CROW BRIDGE DRIVE.
I HAD THE HONOR OF SERVING ON THE FRISCO ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES FROM 2011 TO 2020.
DURING THAT TIME, I HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO WORK ALONGSIDE DR.
MIKE WALDRIP WHEN HE FIRST WAS A DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT AND THEN LATER WHEN HE BECAME THE SUPERINTENDENT OF FRISCO ISD IN 2017.
MIKE IS A MAN OF EXTREMELY HIGH INTELLIGENCE, WHICH IS COMPLEMENTED BY HIS WICKED SENSE OF HUMOR. HE HAS CONSISTENTLY PRIORITIZED WHAT IS BEST FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS, ALL WHILE NAVIGATING THE CONSTANT CURVEBALLS THROWN AT HIM, SUCH AS COVID 19.
HE HAS DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO MAKING A POSITIVE AND IMPACTFUL DIFFERENCE FOR THE FOR THE FRISCO ISD COMMUNITY, STARTING IN THE CLASSROOM AND WORKING ALL THE WAY UP TO SUPERINTENDENT. MIKE BRINGS EXPERIENCE, PASSION, DETERMINATION, AND A TRUE LOVE FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION.
HE ALSO BRINGS INNOVATION AND VISION, SUCH AS THE COMMUNITY BASED ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM, WHICH IS CURRENTLY IN THE WORKS.
THE FRISCO ISD COMMUNITY IS VERY LUCKY TO HAVE MIKE WALDRIP AS ITS SUPERINTENDENT.
WE ARE ALL BLESSED THAT FRISCO ISD CONTINUES TO BE A DESTINATION DISTRICT FOR FAMILIES DUE TO HIS COURAGE, LEADERSHIP AND VISION.
I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT A MAJORITY OF THE FRISCO ISD COMMUNITY IS VERY GLAD THAT YOU ARE LEADING THIS GREAT DISTRICT.
[APPLAUSE] SHERRY SALAS, FOLLOWED BY [INAUDIBLE] JOHNSON AND THEN EVELYN BROOKS.
GOOD EVENING, SHERRY SALAS [INAUDIBLE].
SO I WASN'T SURE WHAT I WANTED TO SAY TONIGHT BECAUSE HONESTLY, I HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS ANYTHING SUCH AS SUPER OF THE YEAR UNTIL I READ THE MULTIPLE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS THAT WERE SENT TO ME AND SHARED WITH ME.
AND SADLY IT HAD A WHOLE OTHER DIFFERENT NARRATIVE THAN WOO HOO NOMINATIONS.
SO WHAT I DO WANT TO SAY AND ASK IS, DR.
WALDRIP, IF YOU ARE AWARDED SUCH NOMINATION AND OR ARE SELECTED AS SUPER OF THE YEAR, I WANT TO ASK YOU TO TAKE THIS MESSAGING WITH YOU.
SORRY. WE AS A COMMUNITY CAN ONLY CONTROL WHAT WE SAY.
WE CANNOT CONTROL WHAT OTHER PEOPLE HEAR.
OUR CLASSROOMS AND OUR CHILDREN ARE WATCHING US.
OUR CLASSROOMS ARE BOMBARDED WITH SO MANY THINGS THAT WE AS PARENTS NEVER WERE.
THINK TIK TOK, INSTA, TWITTER, DISCORD, TOXIC POLITICS.
THE RESIDUAL EFFECTS OF THE PANDEMIC.
OUR KIDS HEAR WHAT WE SAY AND WATCH WHAT WE DO.
THEY THEN TAKE THESE THINGS WITH THEM TO THE CLASSROOM, ALL 25 PLUS OF THEM.
OUR CLASSROOMS WHICH ARE SUFFERING FROM RETENTION ISSUES.
A CLASSROOM WHICH AT ANY TIME CAN HAVE DOZENS OF EMOTIONS AND OPINIONS DEMONSTRATED THROUGHOUT THE WORK DAY FOR OUR CLASSROOM EDUCATORS.
IN CLOSING, I'D LIKE TO ASK YOU, DR.
WALDRIP, IF YOU GET THE TASB NOMINEE NOMINATION.
WILL YOU PLEASE TELL EVERYONE OR PRESENT.
WALDRIP [INAUDIBLE] TELL YOU AS WELL AS EVERYONE PRESENT HERE AND WATCHING AT HOME HOW IS WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR NOT DOING HAVE AN IMPACT ON OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION CLASSROOMS? HOW DO YOU THINK WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS BEING HEARD BY OUR EDUCATORS? I'M VERY AWARE OF.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
[INAUDIBLE] JOHNSON, FOLLOWED BY EVELYN BROOKS AND THEN AMANDA REED.
[02:05:01]
HI. GOOD EVENING.THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME UP HERE.
AS YOU GUYS KNOW, HONESTY AND TRANSPARENCY ARE TWO VERY IMPORTANT CHARACTER TRAITS OF A GOOD LEADER. AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU, DR.
WALDRIP AND THE BOARD, FOR YOUR RECENT RESPONSE TO REPRESENTATIVE PATTERSON'S PLEDGE LETTER AND VERIFYING THE PROCESS BY WHICH BOOKS ARE RECOMMENDED SELECTED AND REVIEWED IN OUR SCHOOL LIBRARIES.
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR THE WAY THAT YOU HAVE SHOWN YOUR UNWAVERING SUPPORT FOR OUR SCHOOL LIBRARIES, LIBRARIANS AND STAFF, ESPECIALLY IN A TIME WHEN THEY ARE BEING UNFAIRLY ATTACKED AND TARGETED THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS.
AND FROM ALL THE MISINFORMATION THAT IS BEING TARGETED.
THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU.
EVELYN BROOKS, FOLLOWED BY AMANDA REED AND THEN JENNA [INAUDIBLE].
GOOD EVENING, TRUSTEES, SUPERINTENDENT.
IT'S NICE TO SEE YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACES UNCOVERED THIS EVENING.
I'M VERY HAPPY THAT WE DID JUMP TO ITEM 13 BECAUSE I'M VERY FURIOUS THAT WE HAVE TO DEBATE OBSCENE MATERIAL IN THE HANDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE.
THE PENAL CODE IN THIS STATE, 42.23, 24 AND 25 TALK ABOUT WHAT OBSCENITY IS OBSCENE AND GRAPHIC MATERIAL SHOULD NOT BE PLACED IN THE HAND OF OUR CHILDREN.
WE ENTRUST YOU TO SAFEGUARD THEIR INNOCENCE.
YOU ARE ENTRUSTED WITH OUR MOST PRECIOUS AND VALUABLE CHILDREN.
WE ARE ALL A PRODUCT OF KEEPING OUR CHILDHOOD INNOCENCE.
BUT WHEN WE SEND STUDENTS TO SCHOOL KNOWING THAT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THEY CAN GO INTO THE LIBRARY AND STUMBLE UPON MATERIAL WITH GRAPHIC, SEXUAL, EXPLICIT ACTS.
AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN THIS DISTRICT.
THIS DISTRICT WHOSE NAME GOES AROUND THE WORLD.
WE CARE ABOUT EXCELLENCE AND EDUCATION, AND WE CARE THAT OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT TREATED AS THIS, AS IF THIS IS A CORPORATION.
THIS IS THE BUSINESS OF LEARNING.
AND WE HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF MONEY, THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE IN BOARDROOMS MAKING DECISIONS FOR OUR YOUNG PEOPLE, AND THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE A TEACHER IN THAT CLASSROOM.
THEY HAVE NO IDEA THE PRESSURE THAT OUR CHILDREN ARE ALREADY.
THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] AND WHAT WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO ADD IS IF YOU SIGNED UP TO SPEAK THIS EVENING ON YOU SIGNED UP TO SPEAK ON AN ACTION ITEM AND AND THAT ACTION ITEM IS ACT ON SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL WELLNESS PLAN.
SO IF YOU ALL ARE HERE, WE LOVE THAT WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR COMMENTS ON THAT PARTICULAR ACTION ITEM.
SO IF YOU COULD KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO THAT, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.
AMANDA REED FOLLOWED BY JENNA [INAUDIBLE] FOLLOWED BY TRACY FISHER.
HI THERE. MY NAME IS AMANDA REED AND I'VE BEEN VOLUNTEERING IN FRISCO ISD THROUGH THE PTA FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS.
I WANTED TO SAY I APPRECIATE THAT DR.
WALDRIP HAS RESPONDED TO SEVERAL OF MY EMAILS ABOUT VARIOUS CONCERNS, EVEN WHEN I DISAGREED WITH SOME OF YOUR DECISIONS.
A REALLY IMPORTANT PART OF ALL OF YOUR JOBS IS TO MAKE SURE GOOD PEOPLE ARE IN PLACE IN THE DISTRICT AND THEN TO LET THEM DO THEIR JOBS.
I WAS REALLY PROUD OF ALL THE STUDENTS WHO WERE RECOGNIZED TONIGHT, AND I WAS TOUCHED BY THE REAL CONNECTIONS THAT THE COACHES AND DIRECTORS HAD WITH THEIR STUDENTS.
I VOLUNTEER AT MY SON'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND I SEE HOW HARD THE TEACHERS AND ADMIN WORK THEIR SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE BASE.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I SEE THAT THEY TRULY CARE FOR THE STUDENTS AT THE SCHOOL.
MY ADMIRATION FOR THE FRISCO STAFF EXTENDS TO OUR LIBRARIANS WHO ARE EQUALLY HIGHLY QUALIFIED AND CARING.
WALDRIP AND THE BOARD'S COMMUNICATION ABOUT RECENT LIBRARY CONTROVERSIES.
YOU DEMONSTRATED THAT THE PROCEDURES ALREADY IN PLACE AT OUR SCHOOLS ARE ABLE TO RESPOND TO PARENT CONCERNS AND KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE.
[02:10:04]
I HOPE YOU WILL CONTINUE TO FOSTER GOOD COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PARENTS AND STAFF SO WE CAN ALL MEET THE GOAL OF KEEPING OUR KIDS HAPPY, THRIVING, AND SAFE.FRIENDLY PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN OUR PARENTS AND TEACHERS WILL KEEP OUR KIDS SAFEST OF ALL.
I HOPE THAT MOVING FORWARD YOU WILL STAY HERE AND CONTINUE TO PROTECT OUR WONDERFUL TEACHERS AND THE SPECIAL ENVIRONMENTS FOR LEARNING THAT WE HAVE BEEN SO DIFFERENT.
SORRY THAT HAD BEEN SO CAREFULLY BUILT THROUGHOUT OUR DISTRICT.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO. [APPLAUSE] JENNA, FOLLOWED BY TRACY FISHER AND THEN LEE MONTGOMERY.
HI I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE KIDS AND THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS TONIGHT.
IT WAS OUTSTANDING AND SO GREAT TO SEE THAT AND I'M SO PROUD OF THAT.
I AM A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CURRENT TRAJECTORY THAT WE'RE GOING FOR OUR LITTLES.
I'M NOT SURE THAT THEY'RE GETTING THE SAME SETUP THAT OUR OLDER KIDS GOT.
I'VE WITNESSED THAT PERSONALLY WITH MY KIDS, AND I CAN SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING AND HEARING TONIGHT ABOUT THE CONCERNS ABOUT THE BUDGET FOR THE TEACHERS AND STAFF'S NEEDS.
I'D LIKE TO PROPOSE THAT WE ALLOCATE THE $500,000 THAT SHOULD GO TO [INAUDIBLE] IS GOING MAYBE TO QUAVER ED FOR ELEMENTARY HEALTH AND P.E.
I OPPOSE ADOPTING QUAVER ED FOR ELEMENTARY HEALTH AND THE TEXAS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION DID NOT APPROVE QUAVER BECAUSE OF ITS OVEREMPHASIS ON SEL AND ITS INVASIVE DAILY SURVEYS FOR OUR KIDS THAT WOULD OPEN THE DOOR TO DATA MINING IN OUR KIDS VERY PERSONAL INFORMATION. QUAVER ITSELF SAYS ALL ACROSS ITS WEBSITE AND ALL THROUGH ITS CURRICULUM, SEL IS WOVEN INTO EVERY LESSON FOR HEALTH, FOR P.E.
EXAMPLES OF KINDERGARTEN PE CURRICULUM.
DAILY CHECK INS ON THEIR EMOTIONAL STATE AND STRESS LEVELS, THEIR WORRY LEVELS, WHICH SCORES THE CHILDREN AND TELL THEM HOW THEY'RE DOING FOR FIVE YEAR OLD'S, AN EMOTIONAL DASHBOARD THAT THEY TRACK, GAUGING STRESS LEVELS, TALKING ABOUT WORRYING AND ADVISING THE CHILDREN TO GO SPEAK TO A MYSTERIOUS, ELUSIVE, TRUSTED ADULT WHILE NEVER REFERRING TO PARENTS OR EVEN USING THE WORD FAMILY.
NOT GOD, JUST A TRUSTED ADULT.
THEY'RE TOLD WHAT THEIR SCORE IS.
THEY'RE SHOWN VIDEOS ON DRUGS, ALCOHOL, CIGARETTES, VAPING AND GUN SAFETY IN KINDERGARTEN. AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE WAS THEY'RE TOLD ABOUT VACCINES.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS [APPLAUSE] TRACY FISHER FOLLOWED BY LEE MONTGOMERY AND THEN DUSTIN PASCAL. HI.
I'M GOING TO READ MY NOTES. SO I SAY STAY ON SCRIPT.
I LIVE AT 136 PARK VALLEY COURT IN COPPELL AND IT IS SO GOOD TO SEE ALL OF YOU IN YOUR HOME. I JUST WANT TO SAY, WOW.
I'M HERE TONIGHT TO SAY THANK YOU.
WALDRIP'S NOMINATION FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR.
AS YOU KNOW, I'VE ACTUALLY SEEN HIM LEAD UP CLOSE.
AND PERSONALLY, WHEN YOU LET HIM SLIP OUT FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS, ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO TO THAT LITTLE SCHOOL DISTRICT DOWN THE STREET.
HE IS PATIENT, THOROUGH, MEASURED AND LASER FOCUSED ON THE OPPORTUNITIES AND THE OUTCOMES FOR CHILDREN. HE ALSO IS RESPONSIVE TO HIS COMMUNITY.
I URGE YOU TO CONTINUE STANDING UP FOR OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS, STAND UP FOR YOUR TEACHERS, LIBRARIANS, COUNSELORS, STAFF AND YOUR SUPERINTENDENT.
POLITICS DON'T BELONG IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD MEETING.
AS HAS BEEN MENTIONED, KIDS ARE WATCHING THE GROWN UPS.
WE NEED TO COME TOGETHER TO ENSURE THAT WE LIFT UP THE EDUCATION OF ALL OF OUR CHILDREN.
TONIGHT'S TREMENDOUS RECOGNITION WAS EVIDENCE OF THAT.
THIS IS WHAT PUBLIC SCHOOLS DO FOR OUR COMMUNITIES, OUR STATE AND OUR KIDS.
TONIGHT, YOU SHOWCASED THE LIFE SKILLS LIKE PRESERVATION, PERSEVERANCE AND GRIT.
PUBLIC EDUCATION IS A CONSTITUTIONAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL CHILDREN IN TEXAS.
MORE THAN 90% OF US ATTENDED PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
WE KNOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE OUR SCHOOLS MAKE FOR OUR COMMUNITIES.
PUBLIC SCHOOLS BELONG TO THE PUBLIC.
WE ALL HAVE A STAKE IN OUR SCHOOLS AND LEADERSHIP MATTERS.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR HONORING DR.
WALDRIP LEADERSHIP FOR THE WORK HE DOES EVERY DAY FOR FRISCO ISD.
THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] APPRECIATE YOUR TIME.
THANK YOU. SO GOOD TO SEE YOU.
[02:15:03]
LEE MONTGOMERY, FOLLOWED BY DUSTIN PASCAL AND THEN ANNA [INAUDIBLE].HELLO BOARD. I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK ABOUT AGENDA ITEM 12D1.
RECENTLY, DR. WALDRIP WAS ASKED ABOUT THE INAPPROPRIATE MATERIAL IN THE LIBRARY.
HE STATED THAT THE ULTIMATE AUTHORITY LIES WITHIN THE SCHOOL BOARD PER DISTRICT POLICY.
THE SCHOOL BOARD HAS BLAMED THE RECOMMENDATION GROUPS AND VENDORS.
THIS TYPE OF DIVIDED AND DISJOINTED LEADERSHIP CONFUSES TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, PARENTS AND STUDENTS.
INAPPROPRIATE MATERIAL AND BOOKS SLIPPED THROUGH THE CRACKS, AND THEN WE HAVE TO SCRAMBLE FOR OTHER KIDS NOT TO BE EXPOSED.
I ADDRESSED ALL OF THESE CONCERNS LAST JULY WITH DR.
MOUTON, AND YET STILL HERE WE ARE.
WHATEVER PROCESS THAT IS GOING ON IS NOT WORKING.
WALDRIP'S NOMINATION TO BE RECONSIDERED BASED ON COMMUNITY INPUT FROM SHAREHOLDERS, PARENTS, TAXPAYERS AND TEACHERS.
THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] DUSTIN PASCAL, FOLLOWED BY ANNA [INAUDIBLE].
AND THEN ANNA MARIE [INAUDIBLE].
GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT ARCHAMBAULT, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
I'M HERE TO SPEAK TONIGHT IN FAVOR OF DR.
WALDRIP NOMINATION AS SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR.
LEADERSHIP DOES NOT HAPPEN BY ACCIDENT, AND THE EXCELLENCE OF OUR FRISCO ISD SCHOOLS DOES NOT HAPPEN BY ACCIDENT.
WE SAW WHAT OUR STUDENTS ACHIEVE.
WE SAW WHAT OUR STUDENTS OR, WHAT OUR TEACHERS AND OUR STAFF MEMBERS ACHIEVE IN OUR SCHOOLS. AND THAT IS NOT AN ACCIDENT.
WALDRIP HAS ACHIEVED LEADERSHIP IN THAT REGARD.
LEADERSHIP IS SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH INCREDIBLY ACCOMPLISHED AND COMPETENT INDIVIDUALS TO ACCOMPLISH THE TASKS THAT YOU NEED THEM TO ACCOMPLISH.
LEADERSHIP IS RAISING THE NEXT LEVEL AND THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS TO TAKE ON THE MANTLE WHEN YOUR TIME IS UP.
AND DR. WALDRIP HAS ACCOMPLISHED THOSE THINGS, AND I COMMEND HIM FOR THAT, ESPECIALLY IN THESE INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TIMES.
SO I SUPPORT HIS NOMINATION FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR.
THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU.
ANNA [INAUDIBLE] FOLLOWED BY ANNA MARIA ELLIS, FOLLOWED BY JAKE PETRAS.
EVERYBODY IS SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU ALL.
AS A TAXPAYER, I STRONGLY OBJECT THE SOFTWARE YOU ARE PLANNING TO PURCHASE FOR OUR KIDS.
I SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS LAST FALL SENDING EMAILS TO TEXAS BOARD OF EDUCATION, BEGGING THEM NOT TO IMPLEMENT THIS SOFTWARE FOR OUR KIDS, ONLY TO LEARN THAT MY OWN FRISCO ISD IS PROGRESSIVE ENOUGH TO ADOPT THE CLOVER AD AND THE GOODMAN WILCOX SOFTWARE.
I AM THRILLED TO LEARN ABOUT IT AND I KNOW HOW YOUR DAC COMMITTEE WORKS.
I UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS A DECIDED DECISION AND THERE IS NO WAY TO INFLUENCE THE ADOPTION.
BUT IT'S IT'S IT'S VERY PAINFUL TO KNOW THAT OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IS DOING THIS TO OUR CHILDREN. I'M VERY UPSET ABOUT IT.
I'M UPSET ABOUT DATA MINING THAT WILL COME WITH THAT.
I DO NOT WANT MY KIDS TO SHARE THEIR EMOTIONS TO THE SOFTWARE.
I DO NOT WANT OUR KIDS TO COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER USING COMPUTERS.
I WANT THEM TO DEVELOP STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OTHER, USING WORDS AND, YOU KNOW, LOOKING AT EACH OTHER.
I DO NOT SEE THE NEED OF SPENDING $1 MILLION ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS.
I DO AGREE WITH [INAUDIBLE] THAT, YOU KNOW, IT WOULD BE NICE TO JUST GIVE THIS MONEY TO TEACHERS IF YOU DECIDED TO WASTE IT.
BUT I GUESS THERE'S NOT MUCH THAT COULD INFLUENCE THIS DECISION AT THIS POINT.
THAT'S ALL. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS.
ANNA MARIA [INAUDIBLE] AND OUR FINAL SPEAKER, JAKE PETRAS.
GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS ANNA MARIA.
I'M OF FIRST GRADE PARENT AND I'M HERE TO EXPRESS MY OPINION AGAINST THE HEALTH INSTRUCTION FOR KINDERGARTEN THROUGH FIFTH GRADE.
MAJORITY OF THE CONTENT IS FOCUSED ON MENTAL HEALTH AND RETRAINING THE CHILD'S MIND TO INSTILL AN IDEA THAT THERE IS NOT A HIGHER PURPOSE FOR THEIR LIFE.
TRAINING THE CHILD TO THINK THEY'RE NOT UNIQUE IN GOD, IN GOD LIKENESS AND IMAGE, BUT
[02:20:07]
INSTEAD THAT THEY'RE A VICTIM OF THEIR EMOTIONS.IN EACH GRADE, THERE IS A CONTENT THAT IT'S INAPPROPRIATE FOR THEIR AGE LEVEL.
INTRODUCING THE IDEA OF ANXIETY AND WORRY TO A KINDERGARTEN.
IT IS AN IMPORTANT IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE PARENTAL ROLE IS ALSO DIMINISHED IN WHILE THE ROLE OF A TRUSTED ADULT IS INTRODUCED OVERALL, THE CONTENT OF QUAVER ED IT'S LESS HEALTH RELATED AND MORE OF AN EMOTIONAL EVALUATION THAT FOCUSES ON DIRECTING A CHILD'S MIND AND REMOVING THE CORE VALUES THAT AMERICA HAS BEEN ROOTED IN SINCE ITS FOUNDING. THANK YOU.
THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY. I'M JAKE PETRAS 2774 BANDOLIER LANE FRISCO.
I'M HERE STRONGLY TO SUPPORT DR.
WALDRIP TO BE THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION BOARD SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR.
AND I WANT TO START OFF BY THANKING DR.
WALDRIP FOR EVERYTHING THAT HE'S DONE FOR OUR COMMUNITY, MINUS OR OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS, MINUS A THREE YEAR HIATUS, DOWN 121.
I'M A FATHER OF TWO BEAUTIFUL GIRLS IN SECOND AND THIRD GRADE IN FRISCO ISD.
WE MOVED HERE FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
TO SAY THAT WE'RE HAPPY WOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE UNDERSTATEMENT.
AFTER HEARING SOME OF THE COMMENTS TONIGHT IT FEELS LIKE I LIVE IN A DIFFERENT PLANET, THOUGH. I PICK UP MY GIRLS EVERY DAY FROM SCHOOL, ASK HOW THEIR DAY IS, ASK WHO THEY PLAY WITH, WHAT THEY HAD FOR LUNCH, WHAT THEY LEARNED.
NEVER HAVE I HEARD SOMETHING THAT CAUGHT ME OFFSIDES OR CONCERNED ME.
I'VE SEEN THE CONTENT IN THE IN THESE TWO BOOKS ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
IT'S DISGUSTING. I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED THAT IT SLIPPED THROUGH THE CRACKS.
BUT IT'S A MILLION BOOKS, Y'ALL.
THIS ISN'T A SYSTEMATIC PROBLEM.
IT'S A IT'S A GRADING PROBLEM WITH THE VENDORS.
AND I'M INCREDIBLY PLEASED AT THE PROACTIVE APPROACH YOU ALL TOOK AT THIS.
SO AND I'M VERY PLEASED WITH THE PROACTIVE APPROACH THAT YOU GUYS TOOK IN THE CHECKS AND BALANCES THAT YOU TOOK FOR US TO BE ABLE TO MAKE SUBMISSIONS ONLINE AND FIX THAT PROBLEM BEFORE ANYONE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO COME UP HERE AND AND MAKE A BIG SPEECH ABOUT IT.
SO I WANT TO STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT WE THAT THE BOARD SUPPORTS DR.
WALDRIP IN THIS GREAT ACCOLADE, I THINK HE'S DONE A WONDERFUL JOB FOR OUR DISTRICT AND OUR FAMILY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

AS FOR THE OTHER SPEAKERS THAT SPOKE ABOUT TITLES BUT DIDN'T LIST ANY TITLES, WE'D ENCOURAGE YOU TO USE THE PROCESS THAT MRS. BUTLER DETAILED FOR US THIS EVENING SO THAT WE COULD ACTUALLY DIG INTO SOME DETAIL ON WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY TONIGHT.
THAT'S REALLY ALL I'VE GOT AT THIS TIME.
WITH THAT, ANYBODY ELSE DOES MOVE TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.
MOTION BY MR. CLASSE SECOND BY MS. GILLESPIE, ALL IN FAVOR, AYE.
I WOULD LIKE TO NOW THAT WE HAVE VOTED.
I WOULD LIKE TO JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO TALK ABOUT CONSENT AGENDA ITEM ONE.
ACT ON A RESOLUTION TO NOMINATE DR.
MIKE WALDRIP FOR TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARD SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR.
I THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT FOR EVERY SINGLE DISTRICT IN THIS STATE TO HAVE EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP IN A TIME SUCH AS THIS.
I BELIEVE PERSONALLY AS A PARENT IN THIS DISTRICT AND AS A TRUSTEE THAT SERVES ALONGSIDE DR. WALDRIP THAT HE IS THE RIGHT LEADER AT THE RIGHT TIME TO GET US THROUGH THESE ROUGH WATERS. FOLKS THAT ARE OUT THERE LOOKING TO FORCE RETIREMENTS ON SUPERINTENDENTS.
WE'VE SEEN THAT THAT'S BEEN SUCCESSFUL THROUGHOUT THE STATE.
THESE DISTRICTS, SOME OF THEM ARE LEFT RUDDERLESS TO MOVE FORWARD IN WHAT IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE A COVID RECOVERY PERIOD, WHERE WE NEED STRONG LEADERSHIP, WE NEED INNOVATORS, WE NEED PEOPLE TO THINK OUT OF THE BOX BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT'S BEST FOR OUR KIDS. AND SO I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE YOU.
NOW THAT WE HAVE VOTED, WE BELIEVE IN YOU.
OUR KIDS AND OUR STAFF AND OUR TEACHERS ARE BETTER FOR YOU.
AND I AM THRILLED THAT YOU WILL BE UP FOR NOMINATION OF SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR THROUGH TASB. [APPLAUSE] WELL, I JUST I AM VERY HUMBLED BY THIS.
AND IT'S MY GREAT HONOR TO WORK WITH ALL OF YOU TO SERVE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
A LOT OF THEM AROUND THIS TABLE.
IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO SERVE IN COPPELL MS. FISHER. AND ALL I CAN SAY IS, IS THAT THIS DISTRICT HAS SOME OF ITS BEST YEARS AHEAD OF IT. WE HAVE A GREAT DISTRICT.
WE HAVE GREAT PEOPLE THAT WORK HERE.
AND WHATEVER ISSUES AND PROBLEMS WE HAVE, WE WILL GET THEM FIXED EVENTUALLY.
AND I CAN'T I JUST CAN'T SPEAK ENOUGH TO HOW HUMBLED I AM BY THIS BY THIS NOMINATION.
WELL, WE ARE HUMBLED THAT YOU CONTINUE TO SERVE THIS DISTRICT IN THE CAPACITY OF SUPERINTENDENT. AND WE HOPE YOU STAY FOREVER.
WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM 13 STAFF REPORTS STUDENT SERVICES UPDATE WAKELAND HIGH SCHOOL BAND
[13.A. Student Services Update]
RECOGNITION MRS. MILLER. THANK YOU.I HAVE A LITTLE SLIDE I'M GOING TO PULL UP FIRST.
[02:30:01]
THERE WE GO. SO WE GOT TO START THIS MEETING RECOGNIZING KIDS AND CELEBRATING KIDS, AND WE GET TO END IT CELEBRATING KIDS, TOO, WHICH IS A GREAT WAY TO END.ON DECEMBER 17TH, 2021, THE WAKELAND HIGH SCHOOL WIND SYMPHONY AND WAKELAND HIGH SCHOOL PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE PERFORMED AT THE 75TH ANNUAL MIDWEST CLINIC INTERNATIONAL BAND AND ORCHESTRA CONVENTION IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BOTH ENSEMBLES RECORDED AND SUBMITTED RECORDINGS IN MARCH 2020 FOR AN INCREDIBLY RIGOROUS AUDITION PROCESS TO BE SELECTED.
THE WAKELAND HIGH WIND SYMPHONY WAS ONE OF 6 PERFORMING HIGH SCHOOL WIND BANDS SELECTED FROM OVER 200 APPLICANTS, AND THE LAKELAND PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE WAS ONE OF 3 HIGH SCHOOL PERCUSSION ENSEMBLES SELECTED FROM OVER 100 APPLICANTS.
IT'S AN HONOR TO HAVE A PERFORMING ENSEMBLE SELECTED FOR THE MIDWEST CLINIC, AND IT'S VERY RARE THAT THERE ARE TWO PERFORMING ENSEMBLES FROM THE SAME SCHOOL IN THE SAME YEAR, SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED FOR WAKELAND HIGH ABOUT THAT.
THEN ADDITIONALLY, THE WAKELAND HIGH SCHOOL BAND PROGRAM CONTINUES TO SHINE ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE AS THEY WERE SELECTED FOR THE JOHN PHILIP SOUSA FOUNDATION SETTLER SHIELD. THE SETTLER SHIELD COMMITTEE SELECTS PROGRAMS INTERNATIONALLY THAT DISPLAY WORLD CLASS EXCELLENCE IN MARCHING BAND.
AND THE WAKELAND BAND PROGRAM WAS ONE OF FOUR BANDS ACROSS THE WORLD SELECTED FOR THIS AWARD IN DECEMBER 2021.
THE BAND WILL BE PRESENTED THIS AWARD ON MAY 13, 2022 BY COMMITTEE MEMBERS FROM THE SPONSORING ORGANIZATION.
SO I WANT TO JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO CONGRATULATE THE WAKELAND HIGH SCHOOL BAND PROGRAM.
[APPLAUSE] THANK YOU MS. MILLER. WELL, THAT BRINGS US TO THE END OF OUR AGENDA, SINCE I DID A LITTLE MANEUVERING UP FRONT WITH OUR LIBRARY WEBSITE WEBSITE UPDATE.
SO I WOULD LOVE TO THANK OUR SROS FOR BEING HERE THIS EVENING.
WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE AND BEING OUT IN OUR COMMUNITY, KEEPING US SAFE.
AND WITH THAT BOARD, WE ARE ADJOURNED.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.
