[1. Communication to and from the Board including public comments]

[00:01:17]

HELLO AND GOOD AFTERNOON, I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE A LOT MORE PEOPLE, BUT THAT'S OK.

OK, SO SOMEONE WITH I NEED YOUR HELP.

SOMEONE FROM WITHIN FISD IS CONSIDERING CANCELING THE FRISCO AMATEUR SUMMER SWIM TEAM, SO I WOULD LOVE YOUR HELP ON THIS.

FASST IS IN ITS 20TH YEAR AS A SUMMER SWIM PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES SIX TO 17.

AND THEY OPERATE OUT OF THE NATATORIUM.

IT'S ONE OF THE LARGEST SWIM TEAMS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, AND THE PROGRAM GOES FROM MAY TO JULY. MANY OF YOU MAY KNOW HAVE PARENTS WHO HAVE KIDS THAT GO TO FASST.

FASST PROMOTES FOUR CORE VALUES RESPECT GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, TEAMWORK AND SELF-CONFIDENCE.

HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMERS CAN EVEN EARN SERVICE HOURS BY VOLUNTEERING AND EVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO EARN A SCHOLARSHIP.

SO I HAVE TWO PICTURES TO SHOW YOU.

THIS IS PICTURE NUMBER ONE.

THIS IS A PHOTO OF THE FASST HEAD COACH, COACH TRENT, AND TWO CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMERS. THESE TWO SWIMMERS ARE CURRENTLY THE TOP BOY AND GIRL BREASTSTROKE SWIMMERS IN THE DISTRICT. YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHERE THEY GOT THEIR START AT FASST IN 2014 AT THE AGE OF EIGHT. PERSON ON HERE IS MY DAUGHTER.

THEY'VE HAD SUCH A POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH COACH TRENT, THAT WHEN HE FOUND OUT THESE TWO WERE COMPETING AT REGIONALS.

HE SHOWED UP AND ROOTED FOR THEM.

SECOND PICTURE THIS IS A PHOTO OF THE FASST GIRL 13 14 RELAY TEAM.

THEY COMPETED THIS PAST AUGUST IN THE SUMMER GAMES OF TEXAS AND SET A NEW RECORD IN THE 200 MEDLEY RELAY.

THE TWO GIRLS ON THE LEFT ARE FRESHMEN AND WENT TO STATE AS ALTERNATES.

THE TWO ON THE LEFT HOPED TO SWIM IT FASST THIS YEAR.

SO IN SUMMARY, FASST HAS DONE NOTHING BUT GOOD FOR THE CHILDREN OF FRISCO FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS. KIDS THAT SWIM FASST ENJOY IT AND RETURN EVERY YEAR.

WE ARE FRISCO.

WE REWARD GOOD THINGS.

WE DON'T CANCEL IT.

SO PLEASE, IF YOU COULD LOOK INTO THIS AND KEEP FAST GOING FOR 2022.

I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU.

[INAUDIBLE] GOOD EVENING. I COME TO YOU VERY NERVOUS.

SO I APOLOGIZE FOR MY SHAKY VOICE.

I ALSO COME TO YOU AS SOMEONE WHO BLEEDS FRISCO ISD, AS I SHARED WITH SOME OF THE BOARD MEMBERS IN AN EMAIL RECENTLY.

MY CHILDREN ARE FOURTH GENERATION FRISCO ISD STUDENTS AND I'M IN MY 20TH YEAR OF TEACHING FOR THE DISTRICT.

WE LOVE FRISCO ISD AND I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK AT FOUR DIFFERENT CAMPUSES.

I STARTED AT STALEY, WHERE I WORKED FOR SEVEN YEARS, WHICH IS A TITLE ONE CAMPUS.

I THEN WENT TO SCOGGINS, WHICH IS NOT A TITLE ONE CAMPUS, BUT TWO OF THE THREE CAMPUSES THAT FEED TO IT ARE TITLE ONE CAMPUSES.

THEN I HAD THE BLESSING OF WORKING AT COMSTOCK ELEMENTARY FOR SIX YEARS, WHICH GAVE ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THINGS THAT WERE VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE TITLE ONE EXPERIENCES

[00:05:03]

THAT I HAD HAD.

AND I NOW FIND MYSELF AT ELLIOTT ELEMENTARY.

I'M SO PROUD TO BE THERE.

I'M THE LANGUAGE COACH AND I GET TO WORK WITH TEACHERS, AND I'M FINDING THAT THE TEACHERS ARE HARDER TO RETAIN AT TITLE ONE CAMPUSES, AND I WONDERED IF THE BOARD WOULD CONSIDER A STIPEND FOR TITLE ONE TEACHERS IN THE FUTURE.

I THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AS I STAND HERE WITH SHAKING KNEES AND JUST APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE SO MANY FACES THAT I'VE SEEN FOR YEARS AND EMAILS AT MEETINGS.

AND I THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

YOU ALL DO AN AMAZING JOB AND I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART AS A PARENT AND AS A STAFF MEMBER, AND I HOPE THAT YOU'LL CONSIDER THIS IN THE FUTURE.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

[INAUDIBLE] I CAME UP HERE TO SHARE MY FAMILY'S EXPERIENCE IN FRISCO ISD IN THE HOPES THAT WE PUT A HUMAN FACE TO A CURRENTLY AT RISK POPULATION OF KIDS, THANKS TO UNLAWFUL EXECUTIVE ORDERS AND A SHARP FOCUS ON VARIOUS LITERATURE PERTAINING TO PARTICULAR IDENTITIES, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A NON-ISSUE HERE, APPARENTLY.

THANK GOD. SO YESTERDAY, MY WIFE CALLED ME FROM A LOWE'S PARKING LOT AFTER CRYING BY HERSELF FOR 30 MINUTES.

SHE WAS THINKING ABOUT THE SECOND ANNUAL BAKERY TOUR SHE'D TAKEN WITH OUR DAUGHTER AND OUR DAUGHTER'S AUNT, SORAYA.

THE CONTRAST BETWEEN YEAR ONE AND YEAR TWO OF THIS EVENT HAD LEFT HER SHAKEN WITH BOTH GRATITUDE AND FEAR ABOUT WHAT'S STILL TO COME.

THE FIRST BAKERY TOUR FOLLOWED A TWO MONTH FIGHT AGAINST OUR THEN 10 YEAR OLD CHILD'S DEPRESSION AND SUICIDAL NIGHTMARES.

OUR DAUGHTER, WHO THEN WENT BY ANOTHER NAME, HAD BEEN SEEING THE CORBELL COUNSELOR FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. THINGS WERE BETTER, BUT FAR FROM WHAT COULD BE CONSIDERED NORMAL FOR OUR CHILD WHO LOVED ALL THINGS BAKING.

THE FIRST EVER BAKERY TOUR ENDED WITH BELLIES FULL OF SUGAR, BUT ALSO A CHILD WHO STILL SLINKED INTO THEIR BEDROOM, WRAPPING UP IN A BLANKET COCOON.

FAST FORWARD TO YESTERDAY IN OUR CHILD NOW FULLY HERSELF SPENT THE DAY LAUGHING AND SMILING. SHE FINALLY ADMITTED THAT A TIME TO USE THEY THEM PRONOUNS IS OVER.

SHE WANTS TO BE SHE COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY.

SHE FEELS SAFE ADVOCATING HER NEEDS BECAUSE BEYOND THE SAFETY OF HER HOME, HER TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS ARE LISTENING.

WE HAVE BEEN EXTRAORDINARILY GRATEFUL TO THE FIFTH GRADE TEAM AT CORBELL, WHO IMMEDIATELY ACCOMMODATED OUR CHILD'S NEEDS.

THE TEACHERS HAVE SQUASHED INCIDENTS IN WHICH MY CHILD'S TRANSITION HAS INSPIRED BULLIES TO SPEAK THEIR FEARS.

NOT ONCE HAVE MY CHILD SCORES DIPPED IN CLASS BECAUSE THEY FELT INSECURE OR UNSAFE IN THEIR ENVIRONMENT. PRINCIPAL [INAUDIBLE] EVEN CALLED US TO MAKE SURE HIS TEACHERS WERE RESPONDING TO OUR CHILD'S TRANSITION APPROPRIATELY AND INQUIRED AS TO WHAT ELSE WE MAY NEED. AND MS. [INAUDIBLE] I'M NOT EVEN SURE THAT MY KID WOULD BE HERE TODAY IF MS. [INAUDIBLE] HADN'T GOTTEN TO WORK WITH MY DAUGHTER RIGHT AWAY THE DAY AFTER MY KID EXPRESSED THEIR SUICIDAL THOUGHTS A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO.

THIS IS WHAT EVERYONE IS ASKING MY FAMILY TO DO.

WE ARE BEING ASKED BY A STATE GOVERNMENT ENTITY AND BY THOSE WHO WOULD REMOVE REPRESENTATION OF MY CHILD FROM THE CLASSROOM TO FOREGO MY CHILD'S MENTAL HEALTH IN EXCHANGE FOR EVERYONE ELSE'S DISCOMFORT WITH SOMETHING THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND.

AND THAT DOES NOT AFFECT THEM IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY.

MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, I APPRECIATE THIS DISTRICT, WHAT THIS DISTRICT HAS DONE FOR MY KID.

I WORRIED I'D HAVE TO PULL THE PARACHUTE AND TRANSFER MY DAUGHTER TO MY OWN SCHOOL DISTRICT WHERE I'M EMPLOYED TO PROTECT THEM.

BUT YOUR STAFF HAVE PROVEN MY FEARS TO BE UNSUBSTANTIATED AND A HUMBLE REQUEST THAT YOU ENSURE THAT IT REMAINS THAT WAY.
